Best Hunter Pet on Nost PvP Server! For PvE and PvP!

Recommended Posts

I am so confused.

So this is the info I gathered...

(PVP)

PvP= fastest attacks is the best, everybody wants Broken Tooth!

^ ZG raptor is 0.9 AS and Broken Tooth is 1.0, so why does everybody want BT?

On top off this ^ Every pvp hunter video I´ve seen from nost the hunter is using a serpent...

So does someone actually KNOW what pet I should go for?

(PVE)

Lupos= Shadow dmg, heard he buggs somehow with SP and Warlock..? Rumors of being the best pet in PvE.

ZG raptor= Highest DPS for "me" according to threads...

Some say Serpent from ZG is the best for raiding...

FML :(

Current situation: I am lvl 40.. Considering if I must tame Lupos / Broken Tooth... Or if it is just a waste off time.. Since it might take days off AFKing to get them... So if they are not the clear best choice I rather NOT try to get them.

Thanks for reading, I hope somebody has the answers I seek!

Ohh the choices.. I get it! I'd hate to tell you how to go about doing stuff, so I'll try to give you some insights and options instead. :)

1) Do you play on a PvP realm? If yes: Wait till lvl60. Both horde and alliance hunters will want to camp for these beasts, make sure you're the last man standing, when it comes to taming.

2) You'll need instance runs to gear your hunter - No point in asking for best pet if you're not going to farm best pre-raid items anyway - Level your pets there. Make sure to tell the party beforehand, and also micromanage your pet to stay a fair bit behind the party not to aggro mobs.

3) Don't discard Owls. Although not considered "Best", it's a worthwhile contender. The Screech ability is a AOE debuff to Attackpower. It helps tanks survive in dungeons. When grinding, it helps build aggro on more mobs. In PvP it is more versatile then Broken Tooth, which is primarily aimed at interrupting casters. It can give you an edge against other hunters running with Broken Tooth. It's flapping wings can be an annoyance for players mouse-targeting, in PvP this is "Working as intended!! ;)", but some tanks might complain if they haven't key mapped next/previous target. On the topic of other pets, the Boars charge can also be a viable option in PvP, depending on your playstyle.

4) Serpents can push out quite a bit of staple DPS with out managing it's pacement. However it only increases the Hunters DPS, where Lupos AOE buffs Attackpower (mainly Warriors and Rogues). So in a caster heavy 5man run, you might want to bring a Serpent. And in raiding, if other Hunters has sorted the Lupus buff, you can easily go Serpent. But most raiding hunters, have Lupus either by their side or stabled.

5) With time, these rares will be less camped. This server has had a lot of exposure and a lot of people are busy leveling at the moment, this chaos will die out eventually. Sure these pets are exotic, but not a requirement.

If you ask my personal opinion, I'd say get comfortable playing your hunter at 60. Tame and level Lupus while Gearing up. Decide on a PvP pet that fits your PvP style. Hope this helped a bit, good luck. :)

Another good tip for a pet that is capable in both pvp and pve is Deathflayer, located in Durotar. Its the only scorpid in game with an attack speed of 1.6

It has scorpid poison which is good vs mail and plate and covering debuffs and it has claw against casters.

Plus it has the best looking scorpid skin in-game!

ZG Raptor having 0.9 AS is a mangos bug. Standard raptors including ZG have 2.0 attack speed. BT and the ZG bats have the fastest AS at 1.0

No idea why hunters use the serpent. I never found lightning breath to be that decent, but I've never bothered to calculate it vs. other options tbh.

Lupos is shadow damage currently which scales off of CoS and SW, but that should be reverted to physical damage in the near future if the staff actually care about it. Him and Snarler are the only unique PvE pets, Snarler being a resistance machine. Raptor and serpent will never be the best for raiding.

Go for broken tooth if you can, but don't bother camping them until you're 60 unless you can't stand the thought of leveling them up at that point.

Scorpions by and large aren't worth it unless you want a pet strictly for dueling. Their poison covering your viper sting is their only pro which I don't think outweighs their lack of a dash. You pretty much need to have bestial swiftness for them to get to their target. If you're set on scorpions though, deathflayer is your best bet but he is level 10 and frequently killed by lowbies due to the zone he's in.

Depending on your playstyle, boars can be fun. I used one as a flag carry hunter for a little bit but didn't think having a 1 second snare outweighed a 1.0 attack speed.

PvE=Lupos, Snarler for specific fights>>everyone else

PvP=Broken Tooth>ZG Bat>>>Lupos/Snarler(if pvp resistance works properly) imo.

For your average hunter i'd suggest wolf. I have broken tooth and lupos depending on mood and content.

I dont think Snarler has resistances here?

A wolf is always best in groups. Nothing else will compete with this group buff. Only outside groups is there really a contest... any serious Hunter at 60 will bring a wolf for dungeons or raids (assuming you use a pet at all). Note you can have the pet sit next to you at max range, not attacking, and just howl every CD so you get more ranged DPS. This is best done during Aimed Shots in your rotation.

For anything else, it's a matter of preference. Boars are great to level with, since they will eat anything. They're good tanks and the charge is useful to open up on mobs. But the DPS is pitiful. Scorpids have high DPS on top of armor, but are slow and only eat meat. For DPS, I'd recommend cat or serpent, but these are weak pets. I recommend them mainly for hunting players, who will ignore the pet. For tanking mobs, it's better to have one with thick armor. Assuming you level as BM, a pet has no trouble keeping aggro over you, so you should just go for a tough pet, one which will shrug off the attacks of mobs.

serpents good for pvp coz lightning breath is magic damage — helpful vs high armor targets in pvp.
