It really depends on the weapon but I'd say in general faster weapons are better than slower weapons of similar stats. Don't take a shit dagger of a better sword though just because it is faster.

Everything red kills most classes while leveling especially in PVP unless the other guy is a shitter. Your best bet is to just try and avoid other red players trying to kill you. Not a lot you can do
