Help with character's name changed from "Darkone" to "#RENAME"

Ok. So is the best course of action for me not to play Darkone character until the names issue becomes a priority? -
Help with character's name changed from "Darkone" to "#RENAME"
Wowish replied to Wowish's topic in Help & Support
Zancon, It doesn't make sense to me that I have to rename a character because someone created a character that has played next to none on the server. The fix would only require two SQL statements to fix. Is there nobody who can help resolve this? -

Help with character's name changed from "Darkone" to "#RENAME"
Wowish posted a topic in Help & Support
I created "Darkone" on Nighthaven and during the release of TBC could not login due to a name conflict. Now my character's name is "#RENAME", and I still can't play without renaming the character. I don't want to change my character's name unless it's necessary. Can I get the help from a developer to see if the other character is active, and if not to set my name back to "Darkone"? I'd rather wait to play until that question is answered, because I don't want to change the name. Thank you in advance. UPDATE: I discovered that the Darkone conflict requiring my character to have a name change has played. Characters: https://cp.elysium-project.org/armory?name=darkone&realm=1&yt0=Search The character getting to keep the name is a level 4, undead that has played 1 hour and 21 minutes total. -
Names blocked by INACTIVE duplicates after Vanilla server merge

Mine is still not solved. Mailbox still has no attachments and lost two mails after closing them out. My name Darkone still not allowing me to play. Rain, can you help me too? -
Names blocked by INACTIVE duplicates after Vanilla server merge

People are hostile, because the release of TBC was hyped since I've been playing, and there was no mention of character naming that would cause a person to lose the ability to play. Another thing that is very frustrating is that many other's like me expected to be able to play on the previous version of the game if the upgrade went poorly. I expected bugs, but I didn't expect to have the inability to play Vanilla Wow or TBC. Speaking for myself only, I think what you guys are doing is incredible. You all have generated a huge following with what you're doing, and you're creating new content. Kudos! The downside is that there are a lot of committed players that spend their time relaxing playing the game, and all of the things they've enjoyed are no longer available without expectation. I read the threads about mail attachments being lost, so I logged in and mine are gone on the one character I can play. This is happening on Vanilla WoW and TBC. I wasn't using mail as a bank. I just hadn't been on my warrior in a while, and there is a lot of important backlog. -
Flagged for name change, but change doesn't work.

Thanks for your help Zancon. I think I'll just leave Darkone alone until you all have time to dig deeper to see if the names can be fixed to allow characters to continue playing under their existing names. Is it possible to combine username and character name as the primary key? That would likely resolve the majority of issues. For example username: user1, charactername: char1. Instead of updating records using charactername, char1, use user1+char1 as the primary key. Without seeing the SQL, hard to say if a simple solution like that will resolve the issue, but it could be a potential solution. -

I am new to the Elysium project. I created my character Darkone a short time ago, and have been playing the character daily since creation. He's level 20. If the name was unavailable, why didn't I receive a notification at the time I created the name? Also, at this point, to be able to play, I have to give up the name? Is it absolutely necessary to rename my character? -
Last night two of my characters were flagged for name changes. When logging in this morning, I was allowed onto Stormrage with one of them without changing the name, but the other character still says the name change is required. When trying to change the character's name, I receive a renaming character failed message. Not sure what's happening, but there are definitely some issues to work through for this migration. Elysium staff - I have experience in release management. Maybe it's too late at this point, but if you all need help I'd be happy to help where I can.

There's conflicting information in the release of TBC. Forum posts indicate realmlist.wtf should have this line set realmlist logon.elysium-project.org, but the HOW TO CONNECT.txt file in the 2.4.3 client says to use set realmlist logon.hellfire-tbc.com, which doesn't work. Try updating only the realmlist.wtf file with set realmlist logon.elysium-project.org. Stormrage currently appears to be the best realm option.
