For PvP you can either use cat/ZG bat for the fast attack speed. I prefer cat because I like prowl. Pig is also an alternative for the charge and wind serpent is nice for the ranged attack which is super annoying in hunter vs hunter fights. For PvE any high dps pet with claw or a random dog for the howl. Wind serpent might be decent for pve too, haven't tried it...

1 weapon skill gives 0,04% crit in PvE so +4 weapon skill will give you 0,16% crit. For hit it's a bit more complicated as you are aware. It works almost every single time for me. It does enable auto-attack though, so you have to either make a macro or just be quick to hit escape, otherwise your auto-attack will break it.

Glad you took on this experiment, I've been thinking about it alot myself. I remember tanking some dungeons with my shammy back in the vanilla days. Gonna look into talent builds and gear a bit more. I know there are some sweet stuff like [Invulnerable Mail] at lvl 57. I think one important thing that you seem to have done is to be a couple levels higher than what's typically required for the dungeons. You really want to get those successful white hits for the rockbiter threat. This is why I think getting some +hit gear might be a good idea later. Does anyone know how rockbiter works? Is it an absolute value +threat or does it just increase the threat by a percentage? Logically it should be the latter but if it's the former you'd really want to be using a fast dagger.
