I queued for BGs casually in retail vanilla. Until the BC pre-patch, when raiding more or less died down, I was never in a pre-made group. And I very rarely saw pre-made groups. One difference between retail and here is that you've got a lot more players shooting for R14. When I was playing retail, it was considered far too heavy of a grind for most people to even consider. Why is this relevant? Because with the number of pre-mades, there's no room for casual PvP. Everyone is obsessed with maximizing honor/hour, which means that casual players are discouraged from queueing. This is a problem that feeds itself exponentially - the less casual PvPers, the less incentive there is for casual PvPers to queue. I don't bother at all except for AV on AV weekend, and that's only because I've reached the point where I need to have a Don Julio's for TPS. And for those of you who want to rank, less people PvPing means longer queue times for you. So two suggestions: one, set queue maximums to 5-man groups and two, when you leave a BG, have it send you back to wherever you entered it from, instead of from the warmaster (or emissary) you queued from. This would do two things. By gimping pre-mades a bit, you increase incentive for casuals to queue and by porting people back to the place they were before they entered the BG, you allow people to do things other than just BG. If I could PvP while farming, I'd probably PvP more. I'm sure I can always find someone in IF to queue me for a BG while I'm out in Azshara hunting arcane crystals or farming DME on my mage. It'd be a nice break from the monotony.

I tried out all 4 realms and still dont know where to play.
SpottedCow replied to Olaf the TANK's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
I think Darrowshire is just fine. We could use more horde, certainly, but that's not a reason to not roll horde there. There are still excellent horde raiding guilds and less competition for nodes and quest mobs in horde friendly areas. I actually just rolled a shaman there. -
Actually, I did come to Elysium after Nostalrius shut down. But a large part of the draw was the expected population. I wasn't playing very seriously on Elysium until I could transfer my Nost toons over, at which point, it suddenly became worthwhile for me to invest more time. CF comes out, no way in hell I'm leveling a warrior 1-60 again. If Darrowshire dies, I'll go find a BC server and roll an enh shammy to relive my glory days. I want to experience all of AQ40 and Naxx, but I'm only willing to put so much time into that grind.

Is dps warrior valued in raids at the beginning?
SpottedCow replied to Bagger's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Here's where the special snowflake thing comes from. What you're saying is "I know that Retribution Paladins are a gimped spec. But I want to play one anyway. And I think it's silly that I'm looked down on for expecting 39 other people to have their raid gimped, to spend more time clearing raids and wipe more, so that I can play out my fantasy." You want to play Ret, play Ret. If you find a guild that will take you to raids as Ret, congratulations. Nobody here is going out of their way to keep you from raiding. But you can't force them to let you raid with them, any more than they can force you to not play Ret. And as offended as you're getting at them telling you not to play a failadin, that's how offended they are when you tell them that they should accept you wasting their time. I play a prot warrior. And I can throw on a set of dal'rends and some leather and dps. But that doesn't mean that I'm expecting a guild to take me as a dps warrior with 38 points in the protection tree. If I chose to do that and a guild chose to take me, that's on them, but it would be monumentally arrogant of me to expect them to do that as a matter of course. Much like you're being monumentally arrogant, Bagger. -
I have this same problem, except I'm not on a laptop; I'm using a desktop and a smart TV, running Windows 10. I checked the refresh rate, system rate is 60 Hz same as the game. Did you ever find a solution to this problem? It's causing serious issues for me. As an FYI, a workaround for me seems to be running the game in windowed mode. I can click on other things just fine that way and can even alt-tab multiple times without it getting choppy.

As a warrior, I am always happy to help leveling warriors kill Cyclonian. Can't always help with the rest of the chain (farming is a high priority to stay in raid consumables), but I'm happy to help when I can. WW Axe is huge for warriors and lasts 15 levels. Glad everyone was good to you. :)

Since the new ToU calls forceflagging people on world bosses griefing, looks like we're going to see some horde getting banned tomorrow. Enjoy your vacation, boys.
-
Agreed. That BoE epic that you're equipping is something I could sell to buy a BoE epic that I can equip. Personally, for BoE blues and epics, I'm going to roll on them because I'm not going to pass up something that can help me afford to get my BiS so some random can get his. If it's friends/guildies, that's one thing. PuGs, I don't owe you shit.

If you get to the middle or so of the conversation, you'll hear Shenna talk about someone calling her on her personal cell phone about getting banned. I don't know the full reason for anyone leaving; it's probably a mix of bad PR and concern over doxxing, but the doxxing part is just unacceptable. The amount of malice behind the attacks on Elysium is mindboggling. If you think something shady is going on, quit playing. Or quit developing, as some have done. Maybe make a post to inform other people of your concerns. When you start threatening people or harassing them in their homes, you've crossed the line. That is 100% on the players, at least, those who are being vicious. When I was in the Navy, I would drive by signs and banners every day on the way to work from people who hated the military, hated having a base in their town (at least, prior to 9/11, after that, the banners disappeared). And that's fine. That's freedom of speech for you. But if I had had people coming to my home or fucking with me on my off hours, my response would've been a lot nastier than Shenna's was.

I saw (heard?) the leaked soundcloud conversation. I would like to send my deepest regrets that you're having to deal with people harassing you outside of the project about project things. I can't speak for anyone else, but I appreciate the work that you guys do on our behalf. Please know that I am just happy to have a lively and vibrant place to play Vanilla WoW. I've got nothing but love and respect for the Elysium team; I came here after Nost shut down and while I felt that the gameplay wasn't as good as Nost was (and has suffered slightly with the core change), I also know that a long-term, unpaid commitment to providing the best service you can to the community is a tough thing to do. I have nothing but respect for the commitment that you've made and I am sorry that you've had to suffer for your devotion. I'm glad that despite what the trolls have done and are doing to you that you are moving forward. There's no shame in backing out, I don't blame Asura or the Elysium devs who left. It's asking a lot to put up with the toxic elements of this community. But god, do I love those of you that are staying strong.

Some stats from the BWL Launch
SpottedCow replied to Paramour's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
I think that it's fantastic and says a lot about our community that there are 3 different guilds - representing both factions - with server first boss kills in BWL. We've got a lot of really high quality players here on Darrowshire, and I think that's something we can all take pride in. Meh. Horde side was harder for pretty much everything in Vanilla PvE. Pallies provide better buff coverage than shamans do (and in most cases, better buffs) and you only get Fear Ward as a Dorf, leaving Horde out in the cold. You get to be a lot lazier on Nef where you don't wipe when your tank misses a dance. You know there's competition at the top, but there's also camaraderie. And a week 1 full clear puts you at the top, brother. -
Guys, love what you do. Truly. I played on Elysium before you got the Nost data and would've continued on to 60 had I not been able to go back to my old toons. And I'm not some starry-eyed fanboi who thinks that the Nost code was perfect; it was not and we all know it. However, the Anathema core is significantly worse than the Nost core, and I think you should go back to the Nost core until Anathema is *actually* ready. I know you promised Nost that you wouldn't use their core, but they've turned into a bunch of twats and no one gives a shit what they think anyway. But the last couple of days, things have been really glitchy. Things that had been stable up until recently. When you're in a group, the leader can change randomly. Player dies? Leader changes. Zone in or out? Leader changes. The party interface itself has been buggy. I did a DM:N Tribute with 2 people showing offline in the interface and one showing as dead the entire time. Questing in Ashenvale, I had murlocs swimming through the ground near the shore. Turning in quests without sufficient bag space doesn't trigger any sort of a warning, in fact, you get the sound bite for quest completion, it just doesn't actually complete. It's not unplayable; you can work around all these things. But it feels like a brand new server with fresh scripting, not a tested and polished one. Like I said, I'd play on the Anathema core. Would've continued playing on it had I not gotten to go back to the toons that I love. But you HAVE a better core and the only thing keeping you from using it is a sense of respect. And hey, what Nost did was worthy of respect. But their behavior the last couple of months has trashed any respect owed to them. So screw Nost, use their core, and let's all move forward with the best Vanilla experience available!

There is an ignore feature. In your social panel, under the "friends" tab, there's a second tab for "ignore". You click ignore player and then either type in the player's name or right click their name in the chat log and bam, you see nothing from that person ever again. Not in channels, not in whispers, not in group.
-
Here's a real simple solution. If you see someone using DM to refer to deadmines in world/trade/general(city), put them on your ignore list. Then you don't have to group with retards in later dungeons.

Our official response to Nostalrius — Elysium will prevail!
SpottedCow replied to Shenna's topic in Official Information
At least they're not bowing under to Nost completely and shutting the whole project down. Seriously, fuck those pricks. I'm a pretty chill guy, but I'd fuck them up if they weren't across an ocean from me. Thanks Elysium for not fucking us in the ass. Much appreciated. -
Why the huge gap in population
SpottedCow replied to scurvyjack's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Well said. I have a 60 on the old Nost PvP. I haven't touched it since months before the shutdown. The PvP servers are cancerous and are nothing like PvP servers in retail vanilla. There's no casual PvP to be had, just gankers in the world and R14 grinding teams in BGs. -
I've got 2 alts that I'm leveling, an 18 rogue and a 46 mage and believe me, there is no shortage of groups for dungeons for either of them. I did multiple runs through SM, ZF, Ulda and Mara on the mage since the server re-opened here.
-
Desolace is probably your best bet. Contested or not, ganking is not equal in all zones and everyone knows that StV is the most AIDS there is (why the fuck would you not just go to the PvE server?). Arathi usually has a fair number of people in it and Alterac gets a reasonable amount of traffic near the ogres and syndicate (so if you stick to the western and northern parts of the zone, you're probably ok, like the Syndicate camps along the northern mountain range or the coast of the lake). Desolace is just kind of one of those shitty zones like Swamp of Sorrows or Blasted Lands where very few people level. Mostly, you're just going to see Horde going there for Mara. And there will often be a few other Alliance in the zone for the SM pre-quest. Or, you know, you could just run gnomer a fuck ton of times.

Possible chat ban? or weird bug? Unable to use chat...

Having the same issue. Guild chat works. World chat, general chat and whispers do not. -
Questions about raiding. (Looking for answers from Leadership)
SpottedCow replied to Ghostly's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
1) Flasks aren't really needed for MC/Ony/20 mans. Useful for tanks in BWL and up while progressing. Useful for other classes in AQ and up while progressing. I have no experience with Naxx. But in retail vanilla, flasks were never something that were used raid-wide, except in the most hardcore guilds (or on Loatheb :P ). They're just too expensive to be a nightly thing. 2) As mentioned above, there are no perfect systems. The issue with DKP is that there are a few bottleneck items that people will save for, which leads to players skipping upgrades in order to hoard DKP for those items. You don't want usable upgrades rotting on bosses. Also, with DKP you can't put gear where it's doing the most good, at least, not without breaking the system and pissing everyone off. The issue with loot council is that you need officers who can rationally and fairly distribute loot and players that understand that loot distribution is for the good of the raid. A bad council will kill a guild with a quickness. DKP = higher floor for effective distribution LC = higher ceiling for effective distribution Even with a DKP system, you're probably going to have to have a talk with your tanks and plan out who is getting what loot in what order. Your MT should be the one getting dibs on most of the tank gear because he/she is probably the biggest focal point of the raid. Also, and there are people who disagree with me, but the first set of bindings should go to your tank as well, if you can get them. Thunderfury is the best TPS weapon for tanks by a massive margin. That opens up your DPS to do more damage and is the most beneficial to the raid as a whole. 3) Guilds with aspirations towards raiding are a dime a dozen. Often, they simply become leveling guilds, because people will hit 60 and then go somewhere that they can start raiding immediately, rather than waiting a month, or two months, or 6 months for the guild to get enough 60s to start in MC. You're not going to have the luxury of being picky about raid comp to start with, so that's an issue I wouldn't even worry about. You'll take what you can get. Obviously, you can't raid with only 1 tank, or with only half a dozen healers (at least, not until you outgear the instance by a fair margin), but worrying about class balance is like a 15 year old worrying about the camber of their car. Get your license first, learn how to race, then start tweaking your racecar for maximum efficiency, but that's so far away that it's pointless to talk about now. As far as oddball specs, I'd disallow them to start with. Once you've got a stable raid, you can add/convert a feral druid or a shadow priest in order to increase the dps of the rest of the raid. Two reasons for this. One, when you start raiding, you're not going to have a full 40 people and the people you have aren't going to be geared, and this is a big one, not necessarily going to be particularly skilled at their class. You're taking some warm bodies just to take warm bodies. Just the way it is. Hybrids in dps spec can increase the damage of other dps, but a 10% increase to a guy that's only doing 20% of what his class is capable of is really only a 2% increase. You'd rather just have another dps that's actually carrying their own weight. Two, the people that insist on raiding in oddball specs are usually the kind of special snowflakes you want to weed out of your guild anyway, because they're (again, usually) self-centered twats who are just going to cause excessive drama anyway. This is not 2004, everyone knows what the optimal raid specs are for every class, so if you insist on leveling a toon to 60 and then doing something with it that's out of the norm and don't expect some pushback, you're an idiot. I've been an enhancement shaman in retail since BC, but in vanilla, I healed in raid. Of course, sometimes I did it in weird farming specs, but I healed, because that's what shamans do in vanilla. I think I did one MC as a ele for shits and grins, but at that point, we could have gone in there with any configuration and cleared it. The one thing I wouldn't compromise on to start with is tanks and at least 2-3 amazing healers. Don't take shitty tanks, and while you can take shitty healers, you need to have some healers that know their class. But bad tanks and bad healing will absolutely crush morale. Fortunately, raid tank is a cut-throat position, because there are so few slots in comparison to healing and dps. For every tank, you're going to have 3 healers and 5 dps, which is why you see the huge disparity between tanks and other roles in 5 mans. Have at least 2 capable tanks. A lot of boss fights, especially in MC, aren't incredibly tank-reliant, so as long as you've got a good MT and your primary OT is reasonably capable, you can muddle through with the other tanks half-assing it. 4) Again, to start off with, you're probably rolling with whatever you can find. You don't want your officers to just be your RL friends, because that will absolutely lead to accusations of favoritism. What you want are people with impeccable knowledge of their class and the raids that you're attempting, who have incredibly even temperaments and a lot of charisma, with more free time than a trust fund baby. You're not going to have that to start with, but that's the goal you're working towards. Numbers aren't important except that you want to make sure that you have someone on at all times that can invite to guild. And that it's someone you trust to be inviting people to guild. 5) Other than BigWigs and KTM, there's nothing that I would call required addons. I've always used the standard UI and been very addon-light and I used to be a top raider. I'm not discouraging the use of addons, they can be really helpful, but you don't NEED them to perform well, they just help. If a Druid gets by just fine without decursive, good for them. If they're not doing so hot, tell them they need to download it and use it. If they still suck, fire them. I don't remember what healing addon I was using in vanilla; I know it wasn't Grid, but it was something similar. Tanks are less reliant on addons and more reliant on macros, especially for changing stances and using abilities. Not really necessary for MC/Ony/20 mans, but the tolerances are a lot tighter on the higher leveling raiding, and you need to be incredibly efficient, which is tough to do manually chaining hotkeys. -
Most consumables not working - Compilation list.
SpottedCow replied to Vaskedama's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
What hurts pvp is that premades push out all casual pvpers. I pvp'd casually on retail vanilla, but I don't pvp at all on nost, because I'm not excited about waiting 20-30 minutes in order to get a 3v10 steamroll. Honor farming is just way more prevalent than it was in actual vanilla and it makes pvp painful. And the more the premades push out the casuals, the less appealing it is for casuals, leading to a cycle of unsatisfying pvp. Eliminating the ability to group queue entirely might actually make pvp playable. -
Goldsellers - Autoban filters?
SpottedCow replied to Sythriox's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
This. This is an excellent solution. Make it reasonable, so people searching to fill a spot in a group don't get pulled into the net, but yeah. Do something like a R/D for DII, where bot behavior gets you a timed ban. -
So I can tab out of WoW once with no issues. If I tab out a second time (or use Windows key), instead of actually tabbing out, WoW just starts to act really choppy. I'll get the bottom bar and start button, but WoW refuses to minimize. I have to hard kill the program. Running Windows 10. Has anyone else had this issue? It's kind of a pain in the попа that I can't tab between Nost and Chrome when I'm spending an hour sitting in a queue waiting to play.

Why people want fresh so much?
SpottedCow replied to brunoviek's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
I am personally very excited for the opening of the fresh start realm. Maybe the queue for the PvE realm won't be as horrendous after it opens. However, I'm a little confused by some peoples' views on the economy. Having lvl 5 greens cost 2g a pop is a great thing for new players. Let the people leveling alts subsidize your mount! Put those greens on the AH. Get gathering professions and put those resources up on the AH. The issue with new servers is that the AH doesn't make as much sense as vendoring things half the time. You're auctioning things off for maybe 5-10% over vendor prices and if they fail to sell even once, the deposit just cost you more than the little bit of profit you'd have made. Which also means that it's very hard to find oddball items on the auction house, because nobody is going to put something up that they don't think will sell. I remember on both the PvP and the PvE servers, when they were newer, making money through the purchase of items that I could literally vendor for more than the buyout price. I mean, great for me, I guess, but that's a pretty ваууing shitty economy to my mind. But yeah, super stoked for fresh start. The deadest hours for the PvE server still have 3-4k players, which is really what I'd want to see for peak times. And hour long queues suck. -
Your rage generation from incoming damage has been greatly nerfed. Rage generation from attacks is still the same. Previously, the fastest daggers were best for tanking because you had nearly unlimited rage and could spam HS almost non-stop on any boss fight, which meant you didn't need to generate rage from your attacks. Since rage from attacks is based on damage, the higher the damage of the weapon, the more rage it will generate per swing. So you want a high DPS weapon. Pre-raid, that means Timeworn Mace (2.2 AS with decent dps), same as tanks used in retail vanilla until they could get their hands on a Quel'Serrar. Deathbringer, off of Onyxia, is pretty good too. The 2.6 speed makes it a little miserable for 5 mans (because tab-attacking mobs to retain threat doesn't cut it when it takes you 10 seconds to hit 4 different mobs), but it's the highest damage 1h weapon you can get from early content. Anyway, TL;DR version is run DM West until you get a Timeworn and that will take you through the beginning of your raiding career. There are a ton of tank drops in West anyway. When you have enough money to buy an epic mount, spend it on a Foror's instead and make yourself a QS.
