    Warlock Versus Shaman

Well, warlocks are definitely the head honchos of Vanilla. They are absolute monsters in PvP and are the only class without a hard counter. Shamans on the other hand can get kited very easily and rely very heavily on windfury proc to even consider killing other players. They're easily countered by hunters, warlocks, rogues, decent warriors, geared mages, geared shadow priests, skilled feral druids, and.. well.. I ran out of classes. Of course, if you do happen to get a really strong windfury off, you can SMASH a mage/priest/druid in cat or caster form/hunter ( assuming you can even catch the hunter and mage.) Warlocks have too much health and soul link to kill quick enough before they fear you for the rest of your life. Rogues are just going to stunlock you. If they feel threatened, they'll use evasion, guaranteeing your demise. I think that, in general, warlock is the way to go if you want a well rounded consistent class. Shamans on the other hand are really fun to watch gigantic windfury procs. They're also really lame when windfury doesn't proc. For pvp as a shaman you're mostly going to rely on windfury proccing with triple crits the second you make contact, otherwise there's a good chance you might not survive the confrontation if they have any idea how to fight. As much as I love shaman, I hate not having dual wield and I hate relying on chance to win. I don't ever see myself rolling another shaman again. I had 3 60 shamans and a 70 shaman... loved em once, don't love 'em anymore. I refuse to roll a warlock because I'm not the kind of person that plays overpowered classes. You mentioned ganking. Shaman is decent for ganking.. just... not as decent as an infernal let lose in the center of __insert any low level town from either faction__. And I might as well add that if you're not going restoration as a shaman, forget collecting class sets in dungeons, they're garbage for ele/enh. The only gear you're going to find worthwhile are random blue/epic leather/non-set items in dungeons that turn out to be subpar compared to class set items oriented towards a specific spec. i.e. shaman set items scale better for restoration than any other non-set items will scale for ele/enh. Not to mention you'll be farming the hell out of a single dungeon for that one that BIS for ele/enh, then doing so for every other BIS from a million different dungeons. Always seems like each dungeon only has one BIS for hybrid non-healers. On a side note, PvP gear is pretty hardcore for Enhancement. Personally I'd go with warlock. You'll destroy everybody in PvP, you'll be able to scale VERY hard with end-game tier gear, and everybody loves summons. Just do it, the alliance deserve it. Everyone should roll warlocks so that all we have to do as a team is stack dots on as many players as possible and watch them all die within seconds. Personally I'm going with mage - blink is equivalent to 20% increased movement speed.
  2. I really love druids so I had to reply again. Resto druids are like any other pure healing class. They can't kill anything. They can't farm for gold. They're limited to being health dispensers for other people. You're not really going to have anything to do in the game unless you're in a BG or dungeon. From a rank 14 feral druid aspect, hunters will usually kick your попа via kiting if they're equally geared. Warlocks will obliterate you even if you have significantly better gear than them (I'm not even kidding). Shadow priests can be a pain in the butt but you'll outtank and outheal their mana pool. Pretty much everything else is a cakewalk. If you're restoration in PvP, you'll literally just be running away and healing at the same time because let's face it, you're not killing anybody. Balance isn't even a viable spec and shouldn't even exist. People that play boomkins should seek psychiatric help immediately. Some of the things I like about healing as a druid is having Plenty of HoT's, great mana regeneration with innervate, stealth, some tankyness, sprint, plenty of movement speed, ability to break snares, immunity to polymorph, overall you're pretty much guaranteed to get away from any 1v1 confrontation, and most 1v2+ confrontations if you play your cards right. Also, if you have tanking gear, you can still tank most blue 50-60 dungeons rather easily, which is even more fun when you regrowth/rejuv before every encounter, healing you for over 3000 damage while you tank. They're the best flag runners in WSG. They are awesome in AV when you're popping a powerful rejuv on everybody around you. Some of the things I dislike about healing as a druid is that your forms become limited in usage. I.e. cat is only good for sprint and stealth while bear form is only useful for very light tanking, occasional stun, and feral charge if you spec for it. Also it seems that druid sets have rather low armor, making very little use of dire bears 360% armor scaling. It's very expensive mana wise to shape shift multiple times unless you're specced into natural talent (still costs mountains if you're shifting a lot, i.e. back to back bear form to break snares while flagrunning.) And generally not being able to deal any damage whatsoever. Just make sure you look into spell efficiency. There are lower levels of your healing spells that, after you've breached xx +healing, will do more HP per mana than max rank, ultimately making more efficient use of your mana and avoiding overhealing/letting your teammate get dangerous low before you bump him with a huge max rank heal.
  3. Well, ALL class sets for druid aside from PvP gear is oriented towards restoration ONLY. PvP gear is not designed for balance nor healing, but it works nicely for feral as it has a broad range of stats (but it doesnt heavily focus on any one thing). If you do plan on going feral or balance, your only bet on gear is to grind for pvp gear, or collect non-set blues/purples which can literally turn into running a dungeon 100 times for a single item, then running another dungeon 100 times for another item, rinse repeat until you're fully geared. Even then you'll be under geared compared to, say a mage with class gear. But, if you do manage to collect all the best feral gear, you will certainly be a force to be reckoned with.

I agree. We're going to have a rough start no matter what. Let's get the rough patch out of the way asap. Opening the servers now would bring mountains of people yeah, and that'd make it lag more, but I'd rather crash the server now and work on the kinks now than crash it later and work on the kinks then. I'd be happy if they got the fresh server out sometime next week.
  5. At least we agree on something @ the mail comment. I forgot how annoying that was.
  6. That I asked an honest simple question and the topic was removed. Makes me feel like I'm in Nazi Germany.

    Pretty upset

Thank you very much. I hope you don't get in trouble for answering the question!

    Pretty upset

I'll probably get banned and/or this thread will be removed for asking the same question, but here goes. What is demon despawning? There was a topic asking if demon despawning will get you banned. A mod said yes, then locked the thread. I Googled it and couldn't find any information. I've never heard of this term before and was just wondering. The only thing I can think of it being is when a Warlock unleashes an infernal on a low level town.

I'd rather the fresh server came out first. I really don't mind the amassing of people. Plus, I am pretty sure that a lot of people are going to rush to the enemy start zones just to stir up trouble. I want it to be available by the 20th, which is when I have the house to myself for the holidays. . I turn 26 this Christmas Eve. I couldn't have possibly asked for a better present than a fresh Vanilla PvP WoW realm.

    Rough time played estimates

Just depends on how well you level. I always hit 30 in about 2 days, and then it'd take me anywhere from a week to two weeks to hit 60 after that. I think the leveling is going to be a bit slower than usual on this server. Two reason: 1. Overcrowding for resources/quests/mobs. 2. Contested zones are going to be hellacious PvP battlefields of awesomeness. Two reasons that are AWESOME btw.
  11. I just always felt that it's a pain in the попа trying to communicate with people using names with special characters that aren't on my keyboard. I know it can be done, but I'm not trying to learn every combination for every special character. I like being able to /w __name here___. I don't even befriend people with funny names like that, it's too much of a pain to communicate. Which, I know what you're thinking - just open your friends list, click their name, and click whisper. I'd rather just not bother. Edit: For clarification, I can easily type a ridiculous name like /w qwdqwifhqwf faster than I can open my friends list, click their name, and click whisper. I strongly respect the language originating from the server owners country, but Vanilla is nice and simple - would love to keep it that way. Just an opinion
  12. I remember playing Nost months after its release and the starting zones all the way up to level 30, sometimes even in the 40's, were farmed indefinitely by crowds of people. Although dungeon xp/hr can be pretty lame, with a fast group it's not bad, as long as everyone is on the same page of raw efficiency. Anyways, the gear can be very worth. I'm just thinking that running dungeons and getting constant xp/hr could be much better than running around hoping to god you can catch a mob when it spawns before anybody else does. Not gonna lie, I'm going to Duskwood when I'm 26 so that I can farm mobs AND people :D:D (Rolling UD mage like 90% of the rest of the population) Edit: I know they're upping spawn rates early on, I'm wondering if that'll even make much of a difference with the amount of people. Barrens are going to be a delicious slice of hell trying to quest/grind
  13. I like farming anything that gives me minimal downtime and maximum benefit while still having plenty of pvp encounters in between. Love doing dungeon speed runs backtobacktobacktoback with a good party.
  14. I vote no. Only A-Z should be allowed, no exceptions.
  15. Just because your name is taken on any other server doesn't mean you should be allowed to change your identity on Nostalrius. Nostalrius should not be altered in any way whatsoever, nor should transfers ever be allowed. I am a die-hard Nostalrius player. It's apparent that you are not. As I've said before, the beauty of Nostalrius is the nostalgic set-in-stone feeling EXACTLY how the game was originally intended. It is what it is. If you can't comprehend how ridiculous the idea of name changes on Nostalrius is, then maybe you shouldn't play there. P.S. It's a PvP server. Not an RP server. We're there to immerse and kill, not lollygag. To each their own, but still, if you want to RP I suggest you look into Dungeons and Dragon or another Vanilla server.
  16. Dude, absolutely no, for a huge variety of reasons that I don't feel like explaining to your retail brain.

This is exactly how I feel. I know that I'm not going anywhere even if the server is utter фекал right off the bat. That can always be expected. They'll smooth things out as they go - there's no such thing as a perfect launch for a fandom server of this caliber. I strongly agree with your idea of releasing Nost and Fresh closely together, if not at the same time. There's a strong core of players that want to continue Nost. Anyways, chances are people will end up balancing the server populations by swapping servers if they're not comfortable with the initial lag and/or the amassing people swarming every spawn point. Early bird gets the worm. I plan on being the first one logged in so I can have free roam of the next zone ASAP. That will be the only way to rise level significantly faster than others - keeping ahead of the game, drinking a lot of coffee, and not sleeping for a week.

    Stability at launch

You need to just go back to retail and leave us old timers alone. P.S. Everybody would quit if there's limited playtime. P.S.S. Nobody is going to quit just because the server sucks at first. This is how Nostalrius was, and Nostalrius became the dominant kingpin of Vanilla WoW.
  19. Yeah I should probably clean all the happy sauce out of my keyboard

Haha it's just not the same though! xD On a side note, I am not really interested in continuing my character on Nost, I really want to start fresh, but I am very excited to jump on my resto druid and go moonfire a bunch of low levels to death for hours on end when the server is up!
  21. Hey let's just be able to change our class and race while we're at it! Hey, let's be able to trade T1pve gear for T1pvp gear! And let's be able to swap mounts out even if we don't have the rep! And change names! One of the things I find most appealing about the reawakening of Nostalrius is seeing players the same way I saw them before the shutdown. It's Vanilla. If you don't like your character for any reason, roll a new one!
  22. There's a reason us old bastards and bitches love Vanilla. We were there from the start, fell in love, and witnessed the downfall of the game first hand. This is a way for us to go back to that classic simple world we grew to love and miss so dearly. If you've never played Vanilla before, you're in for a surprise.

Fresh servers aside, opening up Nost wouldn't be a problem even with server stability. Nostalrius players are far too accustomed to dealing with server instability. Not that Nost was unstable by any means! It was mostly up, but here and there it had some gnarly downs. At the least it'd be nice to try logging in and seeing if I can remember my credentials, let alone taking a peak at my hard work and maybe even being able to say hi to a few old friends. Anyways, judging by the stress tests, it looks like the servers can handle a LOT. Plus, most Nost players are going to be logging into their old accounts, so the population isn't going to be as flooded in starting towns as it was on stress tests. Shrug. I F'in LOVE Vanilla WoW!
  24. I've thought about this one quite a bit, ever since I saw the first gold spammer in Vanilla WoW back in the day. Companies like money. What better way is there to make money than by making the game better for the players? Well especially on free servers, there's really no money generated by creating a superior quality game for the populace if there's no cash venue. So! I always wondered, what if 'they' (they being whoever is running the server, be it Blizzard, Nost, Feenix, whatever) actually sell gold to players. Now I know what you're thinking, that's blasphemy right? Well, what if they BANNED the player they sold the gold to, and kept the money? That way, the cheaters are paying to keep the servers alive and fluent, which ultimately makes the game better for honest players via server upkeep and banned cheaters. Just a thought that's been boiling in my noodle for many, many years now.
