Human rogue was my first toon when we did not know much about gearing or specing. Ubrs was 15 man and brd was 10 man. The crazy specs we tried to find out what worked with pvp and pve. Dueling everyone we could to find out how to kill a certain spec of character. then later on.... I would say my good memories of vanilla were getting the druids and rogues together in my guild and doing stealth runs in lbrs and brd. 2 druids and 3 rogue stealth just to the bosses we needed and taking them down with evasion tanking. The feeling of sneaking around the knowing that at any point you could get killed if you got to close to one mob. The stealth teams working together in AV to take out one tower in the back to split the forces from the front line to summon the tree npc after hours of collecting items. Those feelings left after vanilla. I miss most is learning the game with everyone else , when it did feel like a community because everyone was in the same boat. Knowing nothing, and figuring it out as we went. -
Undertanker is right. HP regen was crap on retail.

You may be right that I would gimp my dps by doing a hybrid spec. Undertanker that is a great break down of war leveling btw. I hope you don’t take this post as an attack on your hard work on your post. But the great part of this game is that if I choose to be this spec it is an option. If you want to instances only 5% of the time being a hybrid would not make sense. But if someone is just loves to tank and hates questing they have the choice to do a full prot or hybrid spec to level. Unlike retail we have choice to be as far from a cookie cutter spec as we like. It’s also one of the greatest reasons to play this game as each person can choose to learn how they like to play the game and learn. With that being said I encourage the new players to read your spec post and learn all they can. Full dps spec would increase your dps maybe 20 to 35% (just guessing on this) over hybrid spec. Hybrid spec would gain you 5 to 8% dmg reduction and 15% more threat with all abilities in def stance. Someone with more math skills would have to crunch the numbers on how much threat difference would be between the hybrid spec and dps spec when compared with same gear to see the difference in agro gained by adding that extra dmg. This would ultimately be up to the player on how they would like to play.

The Greatest list of Pros vs. Cons on what server to play.
grid_65 replied to Applesauce's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Could we turn this thread into one for new (or old) players that would give facts about the servers and what to expect from a new player just joining us on privet servers. This may be more constructive then just giving opinions on pro and cons. Such as: Subject: No AV on new serverImpact: World pvp will be more prevalent in contested zones or city raids. No centralized focus of pvp on a large scale may push raid groups to invade zones or cities more often. You may have disruption in turning in quests or visiting that areas tell the raid is done. As this is a pvp server this is by design. I don’t know if this would be helpful for new players or if this is a good example of factual information that could be given to new (or old) players. -
I agree with Drain if you are going to level as fast as you can. The only thing I would add is I would ask her and yourself is how much do you want to tank as you are leveling. If you are worried tanking as you level or want to make a name for yourself as a good tank to start getting your name in the community. (Your name and reputation means everything on a server that is not cross realm.) As a healer tank team you will find yourself being added to friend’s lists left and right with constant whispers if you can prove yourself a good tank. The practice is also good to keep your skills sharp for when you need to change over to full prot. A warrior you can do hybrid specs that allow you to dps and maximize your threat in tanking. I have linked below. This will give you some survivability with questing and tanking and keep your dps high with a 2h wep for most of the quests you need. They are not min / max but will give you an edge when you put on a sword and board. I will get someone saying that it’s not the best because of x reason but it is a good leveling spec /tanking spec that you don’t have to respect tell you are 60. fury http://db.vanillagam...ZVVzu0voVoE00ox arms http://db.vanillagam...hxdIio0zmZE00ox Anyone else is welcome to inject some insight on this.

Can we see what is behind the curtain?
grid_65 replied to grid_65's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
If we don’t get to know anything about the hardware because of security reasons then I am totally ok with it. Security is always first. It would be a great conversation to have with a dev to “talk shop” about some of the pros and cons of different types of systems. Even a high level theory talk that would not give any info on the system may prove enlightening as some of us. Some of us may be sysadmins of similar type systems that would find this info enlightening for other projects or systems we are developing or budgeting for. This type of stress testing is hard to come by in real world environments. (Not even talking about wow private servers with this.) This topic also may be better suited for another forum also. Once again keep up the good work and will be waiting eagerly for the go live. -
Playing tank/healer while leveling?
grid_65 replied to MisterRay's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
If you are worried tanking as you level or want to make a name for yourself as a good tank to start getting your name in the community. (Your name and reputation means everything on a server that is not cross realm.) A warrior you can do hybrid specs that allow you to solo dps and maximize your threat in tanking. I have linked below. This will give you some survivability with soloing and tanking and keep your dps high with a 2h wep to solo most of the quests you need. They are not min / max but will give you an edge when you put on a sword and board. I will get someone saying that it’s not the best because of x reason but it is a good leveling spec /tanking spec that you don’t have to respect tell you are 60. If you want more info head to the warrior pages and they can give you a break down on math and other ideas. fury http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LmZVVzu0voVoE00ox arms http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LVhxdIio0zmZE00ox -
Some of us would like to know what type of hardware\software you are running on. I know when wow 1.12 came out the max core count and max ram per server was limited compared to what you can get in just a single cpu and ram configuration. With current tech as of nov 2016 (max 24 core 48 threads with E7-8890 v4 cpu) and terabytes or ram are possible. As for software I am sure bliz had a custom linux os but what do you run? The distributed computing power we have with OS like CoreOS, Openstack, Microsoft Azure and many other OS could be what you are using but would like to hear from the dev. That is if we are allowed to see behind the curtain. I know how much effort the developers are putting into this and know how much power it takes to handle 8k users on code from 2005. So I wanted to see what the difference was between the “old” and “new” hardware is. If we the users are not allowed to know about this then know that we in the tech field appreciate the hard work.
