Race to 60 on your main, sit back and take in the scenery on your herb/miner hunter alt. If you find yourself falling far behind, just take your time. I'll tell you this: The serious players will all be 60 by the end of the second week. The /racers/ will all be 60 by the end of the first week. The /winners/ and runner ups will all be 60 by the end of day 5, early day 6 max (maybe not a priest but some people exclusively go for the off classes to lock a win), sliding their crashed and damaged souls into the wall like a player lagging out. The simple fact is: You are already thinking about the race. The battle for firsts: (server first 60, server first 60(class), faction first 60, faction first 60(class) etc) and their unique agonies and benefits are an intense part of the wow experience that adds a great deal to the memory of the game, both good and bad. People will remember you, especially the people who fought for it against you, even if you don't get first. I argue: If you are going to waste time playing wow, go all in and build memories worth throwing your life away for. It's an experience worth having at least once in your life, and if you are serious about it, it is as challenging as running a marathon. Some people even "cheat" and rotate shifts with a lover/friend, while you're on your 40th hour awake, eyes bleeding, rounding the corner on lvl 35 hating and appreciating the feeling of that twelfth cup of White Flood (look it up) etc. Just collapsing (shaking) into bed because you /have/ to rest your eyes but you're basically on speed so you only go unconscious for an hour and a half is /still/ a great part of the experience. Very similar to working on a classic car, it sucks, then it rules. Having hit class cap faction first a number of times in retail (vanilla, BC, DK in Wrath) I can /tell you you get a flood of back patting and some obscenities from rivals (BC the other lock from ally side actually came to gloat in our Vent about beating me by 8 minutes lol). Standing in Org doing a /who 60 trying to get an UBRS group going and only getting 9 hits, no healers, sucks; conversely making the opposing faction's lives a living hell in STV when no one can hope to stop you, is awesome, and an experience most people /never have/. You sear your toon name into the hearts and minds of all the future opponents that have to corpse run for the fifth time with no hope of logging over to another toon to challenge you. The best players, with the most fun tricks in pvp are on the first wave. 60 pvp before people are fully geared is a unique experience with really good players. One week you have to respect their gear advantage, the next they are running screaming from yours. Getting your class pauldrons, before armory screwed everything up, was enough to terrify opponents into believing you had more pieces. How would they know? They weren't even raiding MC yet! Struggling through raids in trash gear while some undedicated raiders watch football and do subpar apm is tough. Being the most inspected toon in org/IF rules. Getting server first gear rules. Being on the team that downed boss X first rules. The entire server forum operates from these types of high profile players. You are simultaneously the reason people play, and why they ragequit. Basically the experience is what you make of it. Being on the very front lines of content and pvp sets you up for extreme rivals, sycophants that want to /w you all day, a truly balanced skill:gear ratio with respect to the time investment, proportionate to the time available, etc. No matter what anyone tells you, getting world firsts in greens is a massively more rewarding experience then getting into a raiding guild that has content on farm. For some people playing wow is a "second life" with a lot on the line for their ego, for others, it's something they do while trying not to fall asleep watching the grass grow around zombies on Walking Dead. Figure out which you are, and live with no regerts.

Is warrior a good choice for a first time vanilla raider?

No. For a multiple number of reasons: Tanks are jealous spiteful assholes, and they deserve to be. There are only two reasons to be a warrior: MT and the one dps warrior that goes nuts farming and prepping for raids to get the gear that dominates pvp. There is no other flex. A good guild that is going to be able to gear out characters has no use for more than three warriors in it. The MT, the warrior OT (who will be competing with the pally on ally) and the singleton dps war. The competition is fierce, esp for the MT and dps slot. This is basically a "member when" situation. You will be competing with many people who were wielding asscandy, TF, or quel'sarrars are are anxious to get back to their former glory. They have forgotten more about the encounters than you could expect to learn in the timeframe that benediction holders, core hound rogues, etc are willing to tolerate. Warrior slots in raids are hyper competitive, limited, and frankly, given the average experience of the player base, you're going to be pushed to the back. My advice would be mage or hunter. If you are interested in learning the content as fully as you can hunter is the way to go. You'll be part of the pulls, an integral part of of the raid with marks etc, and you'll get the closest experience to tanking because of it. But since you claim you'll be missing raids, and not dedicated (college) mages are the go to dps basically for all of vanilla. If you have any intention of being competitive in the game on a "I want to see end game content" basis then you are obligated to at least twenty hours of game play/week. If you want to be a warrior, then it's much higher until at least the fourth boss in BWL. -
Priest. Every raid needs druids and pally/shaman though. I prefer priests. They tend to be more dedicated (because it is harder to farm gold lol).

It's been my experience that even the use of special characters deters reports and allows for people to pose as other players. There is no specific solution if it is allowed, but mine would be that every character in the name has to have an inflection. There is no purpose outside of intentional deterrence in having your moniker searched/reported. -
Idk, I've never been a fan of /tar macros (except maybe for bwl kiting and off tanking trash?) and I find those to be very particular to each encounter. For that I'd suggest you look at individual boss/ trash pulls/strat guides for tanking each encounter, I'm sure there are plenty of macros for that. Scholomance and stratholme are really good practice for click targeting problem mobs (perhaps this is just an aspect I enjoy from playing so much counter strike) and I really think it is beneficial to the player, as a tank, to get good despite any given handicap at this skill. For example the pathing core hounds when clearing trash before Gehennas or Harbinger in MC. You want to be in a position mentally where the only reason you wipe is because too much was pulled (accidentally, by dps) and because your healers can't keep you up from unplanned adds. You should pride yourself on gaining and holding aggro on 90-100% of everything dps wanders into right up until you keel over from impossible hps then savor the decimation of dps after you die. Threat is hardly ever an issue unless people aren't doing what they should be. There's a decent amount of tab (click) targeting as a warrior tank in vanilla and it has to be planned and observing the idiot dps activity. For example I might pull by shooting a target that I don't want people to dps down first but I want aggro on it initially because it's a caster, then I switch to the objective target which the dps is supposed to assist me on (if they know the event). Dps will initially pull aggro on the target but I'll steal it back with shield slam or w/e then taunt a third target blah blah. Now if they are assisting me when I make the pull they will attack the caster and pull aggro after the first cast. It's my job to make sure I see the arrows, shadowbolts, frostbolts heading to that target and efficiently manage my gcds to regain aggro after I've got the rest of the mobs under control. If some wayward meter hungry mage keels over from being too ambitious then so be it. If I can collect the trash and save him then more power to me.This is the essence of tanking. Warriors are the best tanks in the game in vanilla, there are only a few encounters that a top apm player would fare better as another class in the tanking role. They will never be an autopilot class/role and require the most focus, flexibility in spell rotation and targeting, and response time. There's no macro for that.

The most entertaining world pvp memory I ever had was rezzing in the tram turnaround in IF with my two friends by the AV WSG NPCS, after seed of corruption had been added. The only way to get up was to tech jump when a ghost. We then promptly summoned guildmates and the most aggressive pvp players in the faction. You see, the guards can't get up into the tram turn around. The healers can stay out of line of sight and the ONLY way to stop fifty people killing your pvp npcs is to mass rezz in the tram turnaround after dying, running back, making the jump (which becomes increasingly difficult when multiple people are doing it at once), timing the rezz, as a raid, and getting extremely lucky at half life. Every failed attempt at breaking our raid required at least another ten minutes of jump attempts to try again. Meanwhile SoC and other ranged AoE are just slaughtering every fool that wandered into range. As I recall, we held down Crushridge's IF pvp npcs for over three hours until we received a stern warning from a GM. I have never laughed so hard, for so long, playing wow in my life. I can still taste the salt.

Melee is definitely warriors with the right gear they can two shot people with the auto attack lag and tend to stay up. Caster is definitely lock/hunter just due to pet, autoattack, and dots. I feel like healer is gear dependent. Pally/shaman on average probably the best for bubble and shock evasion

I basically quit wow around the end of WoTLK and revisited to see the ever increasing suck that was cata and MoP and walked away as the community was effectively utterly destroyed. I tanked through BC and WotLK. There really isn't much need for many macros other than /rw (raid warning) "pulling" "shieldwall" "last stand" spam, and /w the OT to "taunt". You could dig up the macros for baron Geddon's bomb target etc. What exactly are you worried about? I am wondering what addons will work with 1.12. Will Recount, Bartender, DBM, Healium, and Omen still fly?

It's been my experience that arms is the best tree through about 50 then reduce back to http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#Lihb0hbZcZtizoxMdVo and work your way back down arms. I've leveled 23 characters to 80+ with three being warriors dual boxing, solo, and pocket healer. (two of each class, one per faction, and an extra warrior, DK, and pally) Since you'll be going horde I'd suggest either a troll or undead tank unless you intend to pvp explicitly then go orc or tauren. Troll obviously has the same start zone, but it has been my experience that undead has the fastest 1-15 leveling time (priests also are better heals and don't have as zone dependent a class quest line, but personal choice) lvl 20: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LhGM0o lvl 30 http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LhGcoA0o lvl 40 http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent#LuGcbAboxz (obviously the weapon choice is mutable) then fill in cruelty and anticipation, then respec down prot and back fill arms and cruelty at around 50 (I usually make the switch for BRD) This gives you time to get comfortable tanking in prot for UBRS, scholo etc. As long as you are aggressively farming instances for gear, most of the time spent "questing" (which I do a barebones amount of) the healer will spend dpsing with melee and instant spells (shocks, searing totem) and looting, dropping only a couple of lesser healings etc on the warrior. This of course is entirely dependent on how efficient an aggro queen your girl can be. Pulling with guns/bows, knowing what groups to charge, hamstring kiting and catching mobs with cleave/sweeping strikes consistently and keeping an eye on the healer's mana and ability to focus dps for speed and heals for maximum uptime etc. If you two can get in a good rhythm she can almost continuously run backward through every zone standing still long enough for you to loot and drink (and by standing still I mean mining veins lol) While I agree that fury has better dps I find battle stance and arms to be superior for instance runs with cheap tclaps and the ability to keep aggro without too much concern given for the targets zealot hunters are dpsing down. I've calculated the xp/min farming quick respawn world trash with zero downtime (skipping looting, alts don't need loot amirite?) and have found instance grinding to be faster than questing in most instances especially if you can start grinding the instances a little underlvled. I suggest mining and smithing on the warrior and herbalism/tailoring on the healer for maximum AH income and getting smithing up early before the economy makes thorium ridiculous. I guess I should also point out that this requires a decent understanding of mob leashing, target switching, kiting for rends and deep wounds and tclaps, and communication free cooperation.
