  1. No reason for GMs to get involved. If they had to arbitrate every little loot quarrel in-game, that's all they would do to the exclusion of everything else. Unless you are running with friends or trusted guildies, roll Need on everything. Problem solved.

@ the people DDosing the server

You guys argue over the silliest shit. Let's tackle the serious issues, pie > cake!

    Music for gaming!

I am very likely one of the elder statesman here so my playlist would not be recognizable in the most part to many here. While I have some modern stuff, I also lean heavily on 70's and 80's music, not to mention I am all over the charts in terms of genre.
  4. Reddit is typically no worse than any other forum. Just look on this one to see that toxicity isn't patented by any specific forum. That said, they manage themselves and certainly are not going to give moderators here any say over there.

I don't think you understand the science behind surveys if you equate a tiny minority of people who actively choose to post in a forum with the vast majority that does not. The key here, as you kind of hinted at, is representative sample.

    12 days until the exodus!

This is an interesting sociological issue. It has always somewhat interested me why so many people feel the urge to justify their decisions (which require no justification at all) to strangers. Are they that indecisive? Uncertain of their own decision making ability? Guilty over their conclusions? What is it? Why the need to seek mass approval of their choices? They can't possibly know more than a few people here tops so how is their approval/disapproval so important?

If you conflate the extremely tiny majority this forum represents with the entire playerbase, you can be assured your findings will be nearly useless.

No impact at all. Nost's claim to fame is population and on private servers, that trumps all. All things being equal, I would have stayed on Kronos as their scripts are the best of any private vanilla server, bar none. That said, all things are not equal and pop is a big deal as nothing impacts your experience more than a big pop to play with/against. So, I and many others play Nost and don't worry when another project dips its toe in the private server waters. You do realize there have been MANY others right?
  9. I would like to weigh in here, pie > cake!
  10. Surely I am not the only one appreciating the irony this thread represents?

    So long!

Very aptly named thread OP, it was so long I didn't finish reading your blog entry. Can someone post some cliff notes unless it is just the usual delusional rant where some affected twit thinks the world will miss him for leaving for completely irrational reasons.
  12. Are we really arguing who is more entitled to play a free game the most? Humanity is so screwed.
  13. No priority for anyone, embrace the chaos of launch! It is part of the experience.
  14. Can the mods just write a script to auto-generate a new thread everyday with this exact same title as a time saving measure for those who missed all the others?
  15. Relax, chill out, maybe go outside for a breath of fresh air.
  16. Nothing to worry about. There will inevitably be a spike at the beginning due to the media interest but it will die down, it always does. Vanilla is an acquired taste that resonates strongly with some of us but it isn't typically enjoyed by the masses. This is why there will never be any retail Vanilla servers by Blizzard. The interest just isn't enough to meet or exceed the profit margins required for Blizzard to pursue it. Some of us Vanilla fans tend to wax a little hyperbolic about its popularity but that can be excused as just their passion getting the best of them. In the end, we are a vocal minority of an interesting MMO niche. There is nothing wrong with this, let others pursue their watered down retail gaming experiences as we will always have communities like this one to enjoy our game of choice.
  17. Yeah but shareholders want to cash checks, not ego boosts. It simply doesn't stand to reason that if serious money was to be had they would ignore it out of spite. How do you get the guys and gals wearing green eye shades to buy off on that fiscal reality? Sure, the dev group are human and have egos but if the guys paying the bills smell profit, those egos get shoved aside. Nothing assuages bruised egos like solid revenue streams and bonus checks. Those of us driving these Vanilla servers really are the very vocal minority. We know what we want and are not ashamed to yell for it. Even on the retail forums, those posters are also in the very vocal minority. The larger portion of the player-base never even bothers to go there. It is an extremely simple matter for Blizzard to compare unique active account numbers to the number of active accounts on their forums. The metrics are there and easy to use. They have a long enough running set of data to make accurate forecasts. So the safe bet is your MANY does not add up enough to cover all the expenses over a forecasted period of time. I honestly believe this is all a simple case of math where we end up on the small side of the equation. We just aren't happy to be there though and that is what drives the forums.
  18. And yet they won't do it. The reasonable conclusion is it isn't worth the expected return to clean it up and implement everything else required. The notion that they are simply being stubborn and passing up good money out of spite just doesn't pass the sniff test. BTW, thank you for the civil discourse! This isn't always the case on some forums so I really do appreciate it. I also agree with Danko. I think Blizz went after Nost to get a defense of their IP on the record in the event future legal action was necessary. I don't think it will in this case so I think we will be just fine.
  19. In Soviet Russia, WoW plays you! Gamers are gamers, I'll group with anybody that can carry their weight or be funny enough to keep things entertaining.
  20. They are not wrong. Do you really think Blizzard would launch the game in the state this version of the code is in? All of us that played Nost know exactly how many bugs we will be dealing with on the 17th. If Blizz launched this exact same code they would get flamed to high hell on the forums for so many bugs. So the reality is they would have to devote resources to cleaning everything up. Hence what I said earlier, they know the costs and have a good idea at the expected return. They are not making a move to do it so... I love Vanilla, always have. I will be here on Day 1 and will play for the foreseeable future. So I am definitely a fan of what is happening here. I just find the notion that Blizz is walking away from a fortune mildly humorous at best and a bit silly on the whole. They have bills to pay and kids to send to college, free money is something that easily fits into anyone's business plan.
  21. This. If there was any respectable amount of money to be made by Blizzard hosting a classic server, they would. They have made mistakes over the years and lost the edge they once had as a must purchase game developer, but they have not gone full on retard. They have the metrics, they know how much it would cost to implement and have a solid estimate of the return. That they are not interested says everything you need to know. We, the vanilla lovers, are a niche. That is perfectly fine, the world needs niches and those that enjoy them, it makes the world a richer and more diverse experience. The sooner we accept this and stop with the fallacy that we are in some way a massive majority, the sooner we will enjoy this for what it is and just have fun on our own terms.

    Toxicity Before Release

It's called human nature. You could have the Victoria's Secret models giving away free blowjobs and someone would complain about parking.

    Fresh Realm

Yeah! How dare they not give us what we want, when we want it, with no questions asked! We paid good money for this so there simply is no excuse. I mean, do they think they have some other priority in life?
