Progressing timeline affecting transfer gear

Perhaps a silly question but I did not find it on the website: With the timeline releasing AQ & Naxx not for quite some time, how does this affect people that have toons transferred from the old realms? I suspect they keep their gear, but this gear is not available for a long time for new players. Or was AQ & Naxx not released on those servers yet?
