I don't know if it's just me, but basically any quest given by an object in the world (not a drop), that results in you having to give the item from that object to a quest giver, is not shown on the map. When you actually click it and retrieve the item to start the quest, then it's all mapped out, but before then, it's as if the quest isn't in the game.
