  1. the nicest way to put it is that elysium's commitment to moral high ground is ahead of its time just fucking ban the cunt. cease moderation of the subreddit by elysium staff. you are giving the playerbase and even yourself the impression that the shit spewed there matters. if it's just witchhunts why do you give a damn? constant witchhunts related to your VPN policy haven't phased you in the slightest. if this is just as illegitimate why are you giving in? I hope the answer is that this is mostly about the donation. You've been terribly nice. You went out of your way in helping Nostalrius wash its hands of the business without giving in to demands that would have hurt your players. You let a large community of genuine players access your server, despite backlash and despite consequences real or imagined. You invested so much into your public relations despite having no monetary stake in it - until now. Please draw the line.
  2. spam on elysium pvp is getting out of control on old pvp whispering was disabled until lvl 8. low level players don't rely on whisper to organize groups or trade so this was a far more effective measure than giving every player the .wr option to completely disable whispers. spammers only got around this by using compromised accounts to whisper with, and those would be banned in time. on the new server, improved security and awareness of the leaked credentials means far less hacked accounts. spammers would be stranded; expect that they can now make lvl 1 characters and whisper freely. every spam whisper I've received has been from a lvl 1 without exception. unlike before these accounts are completely expendable and replaced far faster than they could be reported and banned. why remove this protection when we needed it the most?
  3. is the lvl 8 restriction even in place still? every single spam whisper I've received on new pvp the past two days has been from gibberish-named lvl 1s. on old pvp most whispers were from hijacked accounts with real characters of miscellaneous level and you definitely could not whisper under lvl 8. without mass access to compromised accounts, spammers need to make throwaway characters. why suddenly allow them to do just that when we had a good measure against it? how can staff hope to keep up with banning accounts that take one minute to replace and resume spamming?

    .wr off

Of course people will stop complaining about a feature they're no longer using. At the same time, anyone still complaining about whisper spam will be promptly reminded by easily impressed forum shills that the solution is already implemented and they just have to turn it on, it's so easy! The fact is that this changes nothing. Spammers are not prevented from spamming. Users are not protected from spam unless they completely deafen themselves. This "solution" aggressively stamps out symptoms with no regard for side effects and without treating underlying causes. The only redeeming quality of this procedure is that you can say no. As a player you should be concerned about what part of the game Elysium will offer you to opt out of next. If there's a hull breach you need to repair the holes leaking water into your ship. All your passengers are suffering from wet socks and some of them are worried, and you just told them that they don't have to enter the flooded cabins if they don't want to. You've made it your policy to NOT prevent water from entering your ship, even if your passengers get drenched and your volunteer crewmates have to mop up puddles around the breaches daily. You say water isn't even the problem. The St. Elysium urgently needs to adopt waterproofing for her hull before she sets out to sea, even if the captain has to eat some of his words in order to do it. In the end his duty is aboard, and angry voices on the mainland should not discourage him from making the practical adjustments needed for his massive ship to sail safely and calmly for years to come.
  5. you have to understand that such a system of loosely accountable, decentralized pseudo-staff censoring players at their discretion would be uneconomic the volunteer staff will have more than enough workload without having to constantly review these infractions and dealing with backlash/appeals and the inevitable rogue moderators I can only hope you're not actually reporting people for being "toxic" to noone in particular, that would make you the only problem in the situation
