Same reason everyone who runs here and says whatever they do, to try and publicly look as not guilty as they feel they need. to. Its rare for any game staff to tell the general pop much if anything about how a player was caught and why they were banned. Thats basicly SOP ***From me to you****I am pretty sure there is no reason do ban w/o cause as it benefits nobody and the staff here volunteer their time to make vanilla wow playable to people. There is no real motive to just ban people for lulz. I hope OP had 2FA and this was an automated false positive.

I don't like achievements much either, but you do have to put time and effort into pvp to get gear and pvp titles. Having silly achievements in game does not negate that. Also, claiming they encourage mediocrity really depends on the achievement itself [Glory to the Icecrown Raider, and Scarab Lord] come to mind. Hell even the lvl achievements can be used to show how fast you lvld. Gear does not always show if you are a good player especially if you are on an alt or do GDKP runs. Also as already mentioned, you can inspect them or look at things like HP, MP or if grouped with them check out their DPS or healing done. If you need to show off your shinies then don't Xmog, and the only time another person's gear is any of your concern is when they are playing with you or smashing your face in. Blizz even let people inspect both factions. That's why I spent so much damn time in outland and the bloodscale on a worgen is just funny, bonus points if you use the invisible DK belt so it really looks like a thong.

Not all of us stand in awe of gear. And when it matters you can inspect people.

You could trying to pull single mobs. At early lvls most get rekt by 3 sometimes even 2. This is because you don't have many tools at the early lvls. If you find yourself getting killed often you have options a) group up b) make sure you have skills trained c) kill things that have green lvl numbers BUT if you are already bored at 9...might not be someone who would enjoy vanilla

We had trouble doing the elite battle for hillsbrad quest because they were spawning so damn fast. If you do that on Zeth, get in and GTFO as fast as you can.

I like that the staff here does not do that. It may be a bit satisfying to see, but taking the high road and not publicly sharing things like that (In my opinion) shows a respect for the player base.

Just going by the replies in this thread people do not see this as a "travesty of justice." especially because we have nothing from the person question or information about why he was even banned in the 1st place. If you really want to show what comes of the ban appeal, have him take screen shots. I must say, assuming abuse of power without even hearing all sides is not really productive.
