Thanks so much! Combination of re-installing DirectX, moving the WoW folder out of Program Files and running the client as an admin did the trick.

I'm not able to hear any sound effects in game. I've gone through all of the sound options, including ctrl+s to turn sound effects off and on, turning up and down the sound, unchecking all of the options, etc. Music and ambient sound works fine, as well as NPC voices. I've also tried to re-download the client and disable all addons, but to no avail. Sound works perfectly fine in Windows and in other games. I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Any help would be very much appreciated!
