Why the huge gap in population

I agree that WoW doesn't have some kind of amazing PVP. I think it does have it's place and can be a lot of fun when the fights are fair and interesting. I enjoy open world scuffles with other players and have a lot of fun with BGs. But overall, picked Darrowshire not because WoW pvp is bad, but because the rather huge populations on the PVP servers is not appetizing. My entire time on retail was spent on PVP servers (mainly Bleeding Hollow-PVP, Horde). I had a lot of fun, but that was with an almost full, regular size server (and often had queues up through end of WotLK). Having come to PVE, I do not regret it and I am also thankful because I constantly hear people talk about how their progression is seriously slowed because of ganking in a lot of cases on Elysium/ZK (on top of fighting for mobs because of high pop).
