Is it weird to be really excited for TBC?
Perkalov replied to ScottK1994's topic in The Burning Crusade
Short version. Raiding took less preparation but boss mechanics was harder. PvE/Leveling was easier due to being more streamlined with clear quest hubs and instance hubs. But at the same time the awesomeness of instances like BRD was taken from us due to instances was made to be cleared in 30 min by a skilled group. So while leveling and general PvE was still good it was less diverse and IMO more boring. So to define harder/easier the one asking need to define the question in such a manner that it adresses what he actually want to know. TBC isn't Vanilla dumbed up or made harder. Its an own version. What I can say is that over time the game became more and more streamlined. -
Havn't tamed a pet the last few days, but last time I did it came with skills. Cat in Swamp of Sorrows, came with prowl.

If you don't want to farm a pet for weeks, then go with 1.2 Cat or a Boar. Not that I ever follow that advice, but I got a sentimental connection to raptors.
-
Oki. The question came from the fact that OP claimed that Lupos did Shadow.

Mute restricted for 60 seconds (not banned)
Perkalov replied to horriblepancake's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
I get muted from time to time, but its always after writing a novel of an answer to someone. -
if all mechanics is from 1.2 Lupos should do Shadow and Takk should have high persuit speed, right?

Repeated chat mutes for no reason

Get better mana-regain :P -
Well if he actually got 3.4 speed and a heavy quiver (being below lvl 40 and all), then it clips with 0,008 sec from auto. But generally speaking, yes any weapon with higher speed then 3.6s will be clipped by Aimed Shot if the hunter have a quiver with 15% faster attack. But while every bow clips since they have higher speed then 3.6, the amount lost will be higher the faster the bow is. Its not as if this is an on and of switch. With weaponspeed 1.0 it will actually clip 2/3 of the white damage (clips two full auto shots) while with weapon-speed 2.0 it clips 1/3 of the damage (clipping half a shot). In short, a slower bow will lose less damage to clipping, even when it is affected by the phenomena. Yes I do understand normalization, it affects what damage is contributed to the attack from your total AP. No matter what speed your weapon have, the contribution to teh attack, from AP is the same, the actual formula should be... weapon-damage + (AP/14*2.8) = damage Observe that weapon-damage is a part of the forumla and only hte contribution from AP is normalized, thus affects the outcome and it is directly dependent of of weapon-speed (DPS*weapon-speed=weapon-damage). So while it is less of an factor after normalization, weapon speed do affect the normalized attacks (to hunters its Multi and Aimed). Before the normalisation the formula used weaponspeed where 2.8 now is. I also do understand that it doesn't effect "white damage per hit" since it isn't an instant attack. The formula for "white attacks" should be weapon-damage + (AP/14*weapon-speed)=total damage. The same formula earlier used on the now Normalized skills. A slower weapon do more damage per hit, but with Aimed and Multi the difference is negligible while for white damage directly correlates to weapon speed. With that said, are you sure we are "Normalized"? In vanilla it was done like with the AQ release or something like that.

Ehh... clipping is an issue if he is using Aimed Shot. Casting time of Aimed Shot is 3 sec, so having bows/guns with higher attackspeed will have the auto-shot clipped. Reason to why clipping doesn't tend to be an issue is because most hunters doesn't start to use Aimed Shot before raiding (MM=Aimed Shot, BM=not so much). As for normalization... That is AP gained from agility, equipment etc converted into damage with a normalization of 2.8 per second. But the gun he uses still fires ever 3.4 seconds. Thus the damage per hit is 125% of the normalized value while a gun with a weaponspeed of 1.4 will do 0.5 of the normalized value. This is so that skills that uses the weapon as base for its damage shouldn't benefit from having a slow weapon speed (and fast weapon being penalized). Normalization, if in effect (originally introduced... well late in vanilla), only affect DPS, not the difference in damage per hit. What you suggest is that all weaponspeed alter is the amount of ammo used. A weapon with 2.0 attack speed will do half the damage of a weapon with 4.0 per hit. They will have the same DPS (all else equal, and no multiplier to weapons speed, such as ammo pouch). And they skills will do equal damage no matter which of the weapon he uses (due to normalization). The question specifically asks for an evaluation of Damage per Hit, thus weapon speed do still matter to white damage. All that said, are you sure that the weapons are normalized?

Attack speed is only ever important against things with casting-bars. Primarily other players (read: casters). Every attack pushes the casting-time back a bit, so a pet with 1.0 attack will push the bar back twice as much as a 2.0 This is why people want Broken Tooth. Not because of DPS. All [insert pet of choice] have x DPS. If the attackspeed is 2.0 then the damage of the attack is x*2.

Cat has the advantage (over raptors) of charge, other then that Raptor and Cat is about equal, with Raptor having slightly less HP and slightly higher Armour. Both have higher DPS then Wolf. Wolf is "well rounded" but have the howl. To a BM it seems like having an high DPS pet is preferable in instances. The wolf is mainly there to supply the Furious Howl buff to all physical DPS, which in normal dungeons is you and possibly 1 more.

He is spec'ing MM so if he is using Aimed Shot he is indeed clipping auto-shots with faster weapon, but more importantly... He is asking for damage per hit and weapon speed certainly is affecting that. Elwyn, those numbers are slightly higher then mine, but I am dressed in a suit of crap with a green lvl 36 bow with speed 1.9 so Im a bad benchmark. Aside from that, you DPS is what matters, and assuming that you use Aimed Shot then having a slow weapon helps that. So upgrading might actually hurt your total output.

A boar is just fine. If you enjoy a fair bit of PvP you might consider using a cat instead. Attack speed is only ever useful in PvP, and only against casters. Attacks push back their casting-bar, so hitting them often will make their spell-casting slow. However, if you change to cat, then remember that its more fragile then the boar and has higher maintenance. A boar is a trash-bin that will eat anything including mage produced bread, a cat eats fish and meat and in general it doesn't drop enough of that to maintain the poor pet.

Not twisting your words, I am talking about the principle which your suggested behaviour stems from. Not where you applies it. The behaviour you suggest is a principle that can be applied at any part of the game where two or more players want the same item. What you suggest is to actually "ninja loot" the rare spawn. You just don't like being called out for it.

Nahh... but newbies doesn't micromanage the pet nor do they care much for rotation. They send Hoggolito at Mob A, and point their arrow/barrel in the general direction of A close their eyes and hope for the best. And for this kind of behaviour Hunter is the best. Those who actually micromanage their pet and pay attention to their rotation (thus have a decent DPS, aside from being the utility box of the party) isn't the part of the hunter community that gives us the bad rep. To a new player, hunter is by far the easiest to learn. I am gona teach my 7 y/o son to play WoW this afternoon and I have manipulated him into chosing hunter, so I wont have to wait for hours while he corpse run. Having a pet is a blessing to newbies, they do not need to freeze mobs and jump away as Mages do or fearkite as warlocks and they can generally avoid close combat (where you die) which Shammys/Druids/Rogues etc cant. I get it, its not hard to do, but its easier to just have a hog taking the damage. Warlock do have pet, but sending the blob and using wand seems to be unattractive and Warlock might be the class I find hardest to handle of the obvious ranged. While they have better rep then Hunters, I avoid them if I can because its clear to me that a lot of them can't handle their class, thus has a DPS that barely gets them out of an wet papperbag.
-
Im talking PvE, because that what most newbies consider when they chose and just by virtue of the pet they are easier then all the other classes. Just send pet, point the weapon in right direction and hammer buttons. If all else fail, run like a madman when the pet is about to die or FD if you are past 30.

What you are implying is that you correct your behaviour because it has a direct and noticeable negative impact to you (you wont be running any raids). However, if you apply the behaviour you earlier suggested in raids/groups/guild, you will ninja everything, since it is beneficial to you and you do not care for the effects it might have to others. Or are you willing to share in raids because of that warm and fuzzy feeling???
-
Yes, well. If you truly live by the standards you suggest, then you are a ninja.
-
Ad to that that in general the ranged DPS needs less healing then close combat.

Uhmm.. Both? 3 parts Black Dragonscale (Boots, chest and shoulders) 2 parts Devilsaur seems to be by far the best idea with those two sets in mind. As for easiest to farm for... I'd say Devilsaur. While they are heavily farmed so the competitions for the buggers are steep, you don't need an MC drops or enchanted leather for those, just regular drops. Nor do you need a few hundred of the Devilsaur you need 22 witch have a 100% drop iirc, while the 3 Black Dragonscale parts I suggested needs 135 dragonscales and have at best a drop of 20% when skinning trashmobs in UBRS, assuming you are the only Skinner you might get away with 10-20 per run and will have you dependent on finding groups for UBRS or BWL (Trash in Searing Gorge/Burning Stepes also drops them, but have a drop of a few %) and if you got the gear to run BWL, we can just drop the idea of this gear being needed for other then MC runs (the fire protection of black dragonscale comes in handy). So, Devilsaur is likely easier.

This. Feeling warm and fuzzy is generally a bad concept that I gladly leave to SJWs, but for the most part, people will treat you accordingly to how you treat them. Just try to apply the "I don't care for others" attitude during raids and see how often you will be raiding. If you don't have the balls for it, then I can tell you the result, you will be raiding up until the day people/raidleaders/guildleaders starts remembering your name.

Its simple. Hunters are easy to play and get a decent result. It is the perfect "beginners" class, with a straightforward gameplay. Rogues is the close combat equalent of hunters. That makes them classes that a lot of good and decent players avoid, since they feel it isn't a challenge and it makes it classes that are recommended to new players. So with that said, a lot of newbies plays hunters. The hunter rep comes from two things... #1 dead easy to play, alas only played by those who will fail at playing everything else. This is as all experienced hunters know, a misconception. But it doesn't matter, this is the opinion in general. #2 Ninja'ing anything that isn't nailed to the floor. Hunters pre 40 is sharing gear with both Rogues and ferals, making the arguments in instance groups to next to allways center on a hunter and something else. On top of that, since there are a lot of beginers amongs rogues and hunters they do not fully understand the needs of the other classes or the idea that while can need the "tanking sword" for a slight improvement (negating a decent improvement for the warrior) it is "morally" the warrior that has dibs on that item (nor can they see the difference between a suitable weapon for hunters, vs a tanking sword... "what, I also have use for Stamina and why would weapon speed matter?"), just as I have dibs on any bow I might need. On top of that, hunters post lvl 40 keeps ninjaing leather items right in front of the hissing cats and spitting rogues, because now they have come to the conclusion that anything that they can possibly use, with agility, is rightful theirs. There are an absurd amount of ninjas amongst hunters. Granted, I have seen a mage skipping away, while humming cheerfully, with a Bow of Searing Arrows he "needed for AH"(with an sobbing, underequipped hunter where left on the scene of the crime). So there are idiots in every class, its just that every third intolerable player seem to roll hunter. So we got a deservedly bad rep, because of #2. But with that said, when I played Warrior Tank there where no dps class I'd rather have if I knew the hunter to be a decent player. A good hunter is far more valuable then a good dps warrior, shammy, rogue, druid etc (which basically adds a clutter of bodies around the mobs, stomps around in various shit the bosses/mobs puts on the ground/floor, and good DPS). Only Mage or Warlock will be nearly as useful. A hunter is to the party like what a swizz knife is to a camper.
