Not blizzlike, not happening. I therefore win the argument. /rolleyes

Smokeit seems like he's always the idiot using the 'not blizzlike' fallacy in arguments. While this can be appropriate for game mechanics (as to not completely mod the skills into something unrecognizable), one could argue that Elysium isn't blizzlike *because* of the enormous population. The GM's recently did a poll in the Darrowshire forums regarding tagging of world bosses, and they respected the results of the poll. The GM's should see what the actual player base of ZK and Elysium want in a more quantifiable way that simply taking a couple players word for it.

Not blizzlike, not happening ^^^ The pat answer given by fools. -
I spent some time ganking lower level horde (gray) in STV, and noticed I wasn't getting any dishonorable kill penalties in the honor tab of the character sheet. Is this a bug?

We need to build a wall against DDOS

Lol, Destron and Smokeit are two of the greatest keyboard warriors in all the Internet. -
Hello Elysium community, I started playing on Elysium a few weeks ago to try out the Vanilla experience. As it turns out, I heavily enjoyed it after years on retail. Unfortunately, I had no idea regarding the drama on this server: -Something about GM's in cahoots with gold sellers. I make no judgement on this, as I do not have all the facts. I mean this sincerely. -Elysium, the server I created a character on, seems to be DDOS'ed...a lot. I have no comment on the first issue, but the second I can assist with. I have been in the IT/IS field for over a decade, and been in Security for the past 3 years. I am fully willing to volunteer time to work with the staff to address the DDOS happening to Elysium. I can provide credentials to staff through PM. Please allow me to assist in dealing with this issue: I do not wish to complain about a problem without attempting to be part of a solution to said problem. I would like to continue to play on this server, but not if it is going to be down due to security issues on a regular basis.

That is a completely stupid mentality: If you don't like DDOS, just reroll? Granted, that is what I did. But I wouldn't ask a level 60 to do that, because the devs should be taking steps to prevent DDOS. If the situation were reversed between the servers, I'd welcome players transferring to escape the constant outages suffered by Elysium. In fact, you'd probably be bitching about how the DDOS is "bullshit" and "fuck this game" while demanding free character transfers.
-
Agreed. I just rerolled on Zeth'Ker, but I was only level 27. I seriously doubt many of the 60s are going to be cool with re-rolling.
-
Well, was fun. But I'm out. 3rd outage this week.

How much longer is Elysium gonna be going down?

Same. This is getting annoying. Twice in the past week has this same error happened. -

From what I understand, it has a lot to do with how targeting, LOS and collision was done in Vanilla. A lot more was done client side in 2004 than is done in retail in 2017. Thus, any modification of the client side files (even non-cheating functionality) is probably construed as cheating through their cheat detection. Don't let some of the pure-ist butthurt affect you: for every post that is allegedly, "non-constructive" there are at least three posts replying to the post in question about how much of an asshole the person posting is. To those people: you aren't special, and no one cares how annoyed you are. The more time you post complaining about people, the less time you spend playing the game. -
Agreed. There is a lot of griefing that is not only within the rules, but part of the Vanilla experience. Sometimes people forget that with a full "blizz-like authentic vanilla experience" there is bad that comes with the good.

Overpopulation ruins the experience...

I have noticed the same thing: it almost feels like Everquest in terms of waiting for respawns of key quest mobs. (Almost, at most I've waited 15-20 mins, as opposed to several hours or days in EQ in 2000). Was Elysium intended to be a "very high" population server? /who has show up to 9500 players online. If it was, then everything is "working as intended" to mirror a Blizzard response and I have no issues with that except the caveat below. If not, is there a planned remediation of the issue? Caveat: Having played during Vanilla, I don't recall server population being this high (although this is anecdotal). A "Blizz-like authentic Vanilla experience" shouldn't get too much higher than 9500 online. A higher-than-vanilla population density detracts from a true Vanilla experience. If we are not going to implement various Quality-of-Life changes such as dual talents in the name of authenticity, it stands to reason that changes to keep server populations to reasonable levels in the name of "authenticity" would be justifiable. A practical means of implementing this would be create another server and allow transfers from Elysium *and fund it by asking all the people complaining about all the quest mobs being dead to donate, or STFU*. I would personally pledge $30/mo (a bit less than 10% of the monthly cloud hosting cost) for another PvP server that allowed transfers from Elysium. -
There has been a lot of DDOS and other issues with the servers recently. As an IT Security Manager IRL, I have a few suggestions: -Ban all TOR exit node IP addresses. A list of all TOR exit nodes can be found here: https://check.torproject.org/cgi-bin/TorBulkExitList.py?ip=1.1.1.1 -Remove known VPN services IP addresses. Not only are these addresses sources for DDOS or botnet activity, but they are also likely used by gold sellers/account farmers/honor farmers to hide account sharing. There are many ways to detect VPN activity, many of them too technical to go into here. -Implement an open-source DDOS protection service (https://www.globalsign.com/en/blog/how-to-prevent-a-ddos-attack-on-a-cloud-server/) -Ban IP's from known blacklists. There are several services that will let you connect through their API to automatically check against dozens of IP blacklists. I am not familiar with WoW's scripting or database model (I am not a DBA), but there is probably a way to implement this. While all of these suggestions involve additional time, talent or treasure (or all three), I believe the business case makes itself: keeping the servers running and the players playing the game. If the devs have any questions, feel free to PM me and Ill send you contact info.
