I'm thoroughly enjoying leveling so far. Bought the game on release back in 2004 and didn't really stop playing seriously until cataclysm (though i explored it a bit) and Panderia (enjoyed leveling a rogue through the under water zones but stopped playing altogether after that). So... for me this is a real nostalgia trip and i'm loving every minute. As some have said, leveling professions and doing instances is a good way to keep things fresh. Also, i find that having a few different classes all around the same level keeps it fresh too. If you want to race to end-game content that obviously won't do you any good. But for me, having a priest, mage and rogue all around the same level at all times is fun. I get sick of what one is doing and move on to the next in a big rotation. Also, it gives you more professions to share resources for.

Texnos (Priest) on elysium is a NINJA (Proof)MacFierce replied to bellakor's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions I wouldn't group with that priest. Even if i needed the money, if i knew someone was going to use a purple that i cannot use i would absolutely defer and expect the same of others if the shoe was on the other foot. I feel like the guy deserves to be publicly shamed even if he isn't technically being a ninja.

There are more people than you would want to have in some cases. Bliz never gave you population numbers as i recall. They simply said a server had low, medium or high population. I have no idea what a typical Blizz server with medium population had numbers wise. Elysium, as you can check, tends to be between 5k and 6.5k players at any given time. It is MORE than enough people for sure. And i'm on alliance which tends to have roughly 45%-50% of the overall population. In any event, 5k players is far better than 10k IMO. Hell, 3.5k would probably be ideal. The server is bumping trust me. You will easily find people to group with and you will get annoyed questing because there are more people trying to do quests than there are mobs to kill. When i decided on a server, i picked Elysium because it is the earliest iteration of the game and had strong numbers. But if there were 1/2 as many players on the server it would still be enough IMO. And it's very blizzlike. when i log on and play, i feel like its 2004 all over again. I must say again that the people running the server deserve massive props.

it is 100% exactly like the game was when i bought it in the winter of 2004. well... 99%. Still, this is a major accomplishment on the part of those that made it happen. This is my first legacy server, but i'm in awe of what these folks have done. They deserve massive props

I forget, and i can't seem to find anything in a google search. Basically just wondering at what level i can get it (i seem to remember it being Lv 40), how much it costs (i seem to remember it being 10g), can i swap specs anywhere or do i have to be at my trainer (this i have no memory of, but i think you have to be at the trainer), etc... Anyone have a good guide on this? Actually, come to think of it, does anyone have a good one-stop website or source for vanilla wow rules, talent calculators, etc... that they would recommend? Its astonishing how much about this game i have forgotten over the years. And now my mind is a horrible amalgam of flat out forgetfulness mixed with jumbled memories of vanilla mixed with various expansions.

So far i've started; 1. a priest who is Tailoring/Enchanting, 2. a rogue who is mining/engineering I was thinking of going herbalism/alchemy with my mage, however, going back to vanilla has made me think about things i never thought of back in 2004. For example, when i was reading up on vanilla rogues to remember what they were like, the suggestion of going engineering/mining was brought up as a high end raiding must. All my rogues have always been skinning/leatherworking but i did recall the lead rogue in my old raiding guild back in the day was, in fact, engineering/mining. Is there any combo for a mage (especially in light of the two profession courses i have picked for my priest and rogue) that is considered a must do for high end raiding like Engineering/mining is for the rogue? Strangely enough, there aren't a lot of vanilla mage guides out there compared to some of the other classes, and none that i have found touch on the subject of professions.

Interesting to know about Zeth'Kur. It's probably a good thing to have it merge. To OP, if you're interested in PVP i just started Elysium and it is incredibly active. It's not to the point where spawn camping will make you nuts, but there's people everywhere i go. From my random checks, hoard seems to have a slight advantage in population so i'm glad i picked it to play alliance (I always prefer the underdog). Also, last night was only my third night playing, but i have had absolutely no issues with server performance here in upstate New York.

Hey all, Just curious what people's thoughts are about leveling a Holy priest. If the end goal is to be a raid healer, but you want to heal instances and complete quests along the way, would you start out Shadow spec and switch over to Holy/Disc at lv 40? I've seen suggestions that people start Disc/Holy and switch to Shadow at 40... Just looking for general advice. I really do intend to heal instances in my level grind but don't want quests to become so painful that they're impossible to do solo. If you're a Holy priest who enjoyed questing and doing dungeons on the grind up to lv. 60, what was your strategy? Note, i'm not looking to race to level 60, just want to enjoy the game along the way.

Thanks for the suggestions and (especially) the explanations behind them. EXTREMELY helpful and exactly what i was looking for. Gonna aim to do exactly like you said. Much obliged!

Dual Spec, how's it work in vanilla?MacFierce replied to MacFierce's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions Yeah. My first toon in 2004 was a disc/holy priest. I had no idea what i was doing so there was no thought of leveling efficiency or anything like that. I never tried Shadow so i guess that's what i'll do. I hate filling a roll that i'm not purely built to do but i do recall plenty of people who healed the mini dungeons as shadow.

Dual Spec, how's it work in vanilla?MacFierce replied to MacFierce's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions Thanks again. It's all coming back to me now. Not exactly thrilled about leveling a holy priest or healing a party as a shadow priest. So i'll have to plan accordingly.

Dual Spec, how's it work in vanilla?MacFierce replied to MacFierce's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions Thanks man! WOW. No dual spec. You can, of course, re-spec i presume for a fee.

Who makes the Elysium cover artwork?MacFierce replied to QQsya's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions It is most definitely excellent. Funny thing i noticed, however, is that if you look at the tabs on the left hand side of the home-page and click on the one labeled ELYSIUM PROJECT, it takes you to a page with a "PLAY" button in the middle of the screen. The background art is positively bad ass, but i couldn't help but notice that it's artwork of a blood elf. And blood elves weren't a thing in vanilla. Then again, maybe there were blood elf enemies in vanilla. But you obviously can't play as one. And i suppose it could just be a very blood elfy night elf.

Thanks to the Amazing Folks Behind ThisMacFierce posted a topic in General Discussion & Suggestions Hi all, Long-time wow player (since release date) here. I tapered off and stopped playing around Cataclysm. I did explore it a bit, and came back for the expansion that had the water zones (was that Panderia?) but after that i was pretty much done. I longed for the days when trash pulls in normal dungeons required coordination, crowd control and /assist attacking. The retail game, as i'm sure you all know, has become nothing but a massive AE barrage. You basically just hit number lock the minute you enter a dungeon, roll your face across the keyboard and sprint to the end. Rinse, repeat. Terrible. Well i'm happy to say that having leveled my rogue to 6 or 7 last night on Elysium i died twice to Defias bandits in the Northshire Abbey (LOL). I realized that i missed the old game, but i didn't realize how much i missed it. I actually have to level my weapons skills? My rogue doesn't get dual wield until level 10? (or was it 20?). I have to purchase my abilities??? Enemies may actually have a chance at killing me? What you guys have done with this server blows my mind. And i just wanted to say thanks for doing it. I've already got my Pally, Priest and Mage started with names locked-in for a later date. This is going to be great! About the only thing i miss to be perfectly honest, is the ability to compare gear by holding shift. Provided i can find my way into a viable guild, i won't even miss the group finder! You guys rock! Here's to many years of vanilla!

This is fantastic. It helped me remember a lot of things about vanilla wow and, more importantly, taught me tons that i never knew!

Hello, I just started playing on Elysium last night and just from perusing the forums i can already tell that i'm going to want 2FA protection on my account. So here's the question, assuming i am one of the most computer illiterate people on earth (which i am), how do i do this?
-
Cool. I think it will help people. The guides you guys have up are all very good. Case in point, it is a minor miracle that i was even able to log on to any of these servers but the "how to" sticky post in the general chat was so good i was able to get it done within minutes of downloading everything!

Thanks Hudson. I'm at work so i will wait until tonight. You may have shown a real lack of bravery when the team needed to shut down that nuclear power plant, but in the end you gave your life so that Ripley, Newt, Gorman, Vasquez and Hicks could have a chance to live theirs. RIP Bill Paxton and Hudson.

Thanks to the Amazing Folks Behind ThisMacFierce replied to MacFierce's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions What is this 2FA and should i be worried that i have no clue about it? I saw it mentioned in another thread regarding gold spammers and account hackers. OK so it was easy to figure out what it is (GOOGLE), but how do i apply it to my account here?

I just joined and was stunned at just how bumping Northshire Abey was on Elysium last night. It wasn't exactly fighting over camps busy, but there were enough people out and a about that i was able to collect my grape buckets at the Defias farm w/o aggroing all the theives. No idea how it will be as I level up, but the community looks impressive to me so far.

Will the servers go into the expansions.MacFierce replied to SADBOY's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions I think it might be cool to play through burning crusade again. Actually, I know it would be cool. But i'd prefer if that day ever comes that it come through a server transfer of existing characters. Vanilla is the best!
