Equipping a faster weapon with more base damage results in less base damage in character display

Hi,

I am a level 22 Hunter and recently upgraded my gun from this:

 

to this:

 

As you can see it has more base damage and is faster.

But now please compare what the character damage display shows for both weapons:

 

1. With Silver-plated shotgun (the old gun):

 

2. With Double-barreled Shotgun (the new gun):

 

It shows more DPS as expected but less base damage and I do not understand why.

The only active buff is Aspect of the Hawk, I relogged, restarted the client and deleted WDB folder, it still shows the same.

Can someone explain this to me?
