Cannot type in All, General, Trade, Yell?

To whom it may concern, 

I spent about two hours handing out free Stormwind Herbs to players in Darkshire to stop a certain player from exploiting other players through price gouging. Suddenly I was unable to type and say anything except in guild chat. I understand that spamming is worthy of a mute, which I was not doing to an extent that would justify being muted. I am not looking to repeal the mute, as I know it is temporary, but are there details that I should know regarding a limit of how much and how often you can chat before being muted? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
