Unusable Item Turns Soulbound

Hello everyone, I looted the rare level 16 wand Skycaller on my 14 warrior the other week and it has since become soulbound. I can't quite wrap my head around it. I cannot equip the item, I was not in a party when the item was looted and I have previously listed it in the auction house. How is it possible for a bind-on-equip item that cannot be equipped to become soulbound?
