oxford 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2017 Server is one week old. Thoughts, hot takes? My story... Started playing back in 2005 and stuck around through the end of Wrath. Didn't touch the following expansions. Tanked for one of the premier guilds on US-Illidan (H). Once or twice a year I would check-up on friends/the game via wowprogress and mmochamp. Always aware of private servers though never compelled to invest the time knowing that everything can (and inevitably will) disappear overnight. The announcement of Blizzard Classic servers was all it took to pull me back. Circumstances being what they are, experienced curators launching a fresh classic server to coincide with the Classic announcement brought me and I suspect many others to Nighthaven. Decided to switch up the roles I had formerly known and roll an Alliance Priest. Playing solo ~1-2 hours a day, reached the late teen levels a week in. Going to grind dungeons and do minimal questing where necessary to get to 60 at a leisurely pace. So far I have had a great experience on Nighthaven, the world feels alive and stable. Classic presents the player with satisfying challenges without the hand-holding elements that corrupted retail servers. Nighthaven will likely serve as a suitably convenient sandbox for many of us who will jump to official servers when Classic goes live. Though I am concerned that 1x rates will prove prohibitive for the purposes of many here. Anyone else relate to this? Are you playing on Nighthaven with a "sandbox" state of mind, tacitly acknowledging that this server will be populated by a largely transient community bolstered by the announcement of official classic? Anticipate that Nighthaven will transition to TBC roughly in line with official Classic servers going live both to fill the void and to alleviate the impending exodus.
PIRO 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2017 (edited) So far, so good. Atm lvl 26 and having a blast. Probly not gonna play official legacy servers when they launch, reason beeing - I expect to be burned out on vanilla content, plan to stay here and continue my journey in to TBC. I suspect that I'm not alone who thinks this way,on this server and many more on the Lights hope server, and the same people shitting on this server now,are gonna come back here to play TBC. Why? - because, although not many people like to admit it,but Shenna ( the owner of this server) was right -'the community is a bunch of whores with no loyalty ' I'm not trying to ster up some drama or start a discussion, so I'll just speak for myself -I am one of thous 'whores' that Shenna spoke about. I like playing here, but it's not because I'm loyal to this server, it just suets my needs, like so manny private ( and official) servers before it. P.S. Oxford, mind if I ask you for your in game name? (mine is Redly btw) I put dungeon groups together, and I've noticed that healers are in short supply, much more so than the tanks atm on this server. That is if you don't mind playing with a 'whore' with no loyaltys to privat servers (or retail for that matter). Edited November 13, 2017 by PIRO
Staruletto 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2017 Hello newcomer, I am also a newcomer! I started WoW back in 2005 and the earliest patch I can remember was the ZG patch...I don't remember when it was implemented but I wasn't 60 yet (I wanna say i was in the 40's at the time). I played a NE hunter on US-Shadowsong and was in an end game guild by the time AQ came out and before I joined them I ran my own casual guild. I'll never forget those days. I played all the way up to Pandaria (with the occasional break in between expansions) Then I finally quit for good. The sense of there being any kind community was completely gone to me by the time pandaria came out due to cross servers and LFR...it just wasn't for me anymore. I haven't really thought much about WoW until recently with the announcement of classic servers and old friends talking about it. Also....My fiance mentioned having an interest in trying out the vanilla experience! But to be honest, I dont really want to wait until 2020 for that experience. I don't know if I even want to give blizz money for the experience just yet. Lets be honest, Blizzard isn't the same company it was 12 years ago; I have little faith that they'll be able to give us the true vanilla experience. BUT WHO KNOWS. I haven't made any characters yet, I'm actually downloading a client as I'm typing this and it probably won't be finished downloading until tomorrow. I haven't decided if I'm gonna go full blown nostalgia and roll a hunter again or if ill make a different main. Part of me wants to get 'Delars again but part of me really wants to roll an UD rogue.
