Thphlstr 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2019 (edited) So 2 days ago i let my computer (Win10) do its automatic updates and today i finally decided to log back into my TBC character and i am presented with the "black screen" error, where i can see my cursor and move it but cant see anything else. But if i hit the ESC button, i get a flash of the login screen as it closes quickly. I had the game working fine before with literal no adjustments. I have tried downloading direct X9, but i get an error saying my computer is too new for that. I have also updated my driver (nVidia 1050Ti) to its latest version but that also did not resolve anything. I finally, also tried multiple different combinations of, ADMIN/ compatibility mode options/ and compatibility with ADMIN, but nothing. Any other advice to get it running again? EDIT: So i had installed TBC in a different folder from the Vanilla game, and when i just tried to open the vanilla game, it asked to change hardware specs, i click on decline and it launched just fine. I then tried to open TBC and again, black screen with the gauntlet cursor. I also Ran the Official game from blizzard, logged into a lvl 16 account i had there. Logged out and then tried TBC again, but was unable to get it to work as well. Edited August 23, 2019 by Thphlstr More Details
bush5150 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2019 (edited) Try running the game in windowed mode. Go to the shortcut on desktop. Use -Windowed command line at the end of target line, like this: This should allow your game to load in a window. If it does, go to the video settings and adjust them all to default and exit game. Remove the -Windowed command line and see if that fixes it. You can also try adding the command line -d3d11 at the end of the Target line to force WoW to use DirectX 11 instead of DirectX 12 (you can also try -d3d9 to force DirectX 9, but that seems overkill (but it might work)). Also, maybe one of your overlay compatible programs need to be updated or disabled: Here's a list of common overlay programs: Discord Xfire RadeonPro (you said you have nVidia, so probably don't have this) MSI Afterburner (in case you use MSI video card with nVidia chipset) Dxtory Mumble EVGA Precision Airfoil Taksi Xbox Game Bar (the silly Microsoft game recording program, I disable mine. It automatically loads when any game is detected) Try updating any of these (if you have any). Also, you can try disabling any of these, to see if they are causing conflict. It sounds like it could be this issue because the game is loading and you can see it with the press of Esc key (even if it's just a flash). Thphlstr 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2019 Thank you for the helpful advice. I had ended up actually deleting the game and downloading a fresh copy and when i ran/installed that it worked just fine. No idea why that actually fixed it, but i have since made a copy of the original download to reinstall if it ever happens again.
