This evening, while I moved with my PG, it's disappeared and nothing, as if I had never had a pet... "Call pet" many times but nothing... My response was that you have to keep your pet happy and well fed to stop it from running away, as far as I'm aware your pet running away is a Vanilla mechanic. As it's happened to me multiple times while testing hunter related stuff on the PTR, as well as on the live server. So make sure you keep it fed and happy as much as possible and I'm sure it won't run away, stabling it until you have the food is also a decent idea.
