Dear community, As you know, the private server scene constantly competes with one another with each server having their own personal core and scripting. Sometimes, it doesn’t always end so well and you get the backstabbing that you see today. "People “leaking” cores or scripts, databases, etc..." Today, we are embarking on yet another journey, a journey to set yet another private server first and that is we are going open source with our core. No more hiding behind closed doors. The reason we are doing this is because, for one, it will be a benefit to the community. This will help not only bring the private server developer scene closer, where they can put a commit in to resolve an issue that they may have seen, but it will also bring the players together by not having a “hidden core”. Open source means transparency. Yes, these past few weeks have been, rather tumultuous, and downright vilified, lots of shots and casualties. But now, that stops. By going open source, you will be able to see what we are working on, what items are still to be finalized and the current state of development. This is something we have been discussing internally, with a very select few individual. We have kept this very close to our chests as we wanted to make sure this would be the right move for the legacy community. This was also a part of why LGN was formed, complete transparency with 100% focus on the community and the players. This decision was not made hastily due to recent events. However, the recent core leakage has certainly accelerated this process. We will make legacy servers great again and we will not falter. Open sourcing the core is a radical departure and crucial first step in the evolution of Elysium, with much more to follow Thank you for being ever vigilant and dedicated to our project. As you know recently we reached almost 190k unique players logged into the realms since Feb 1st. That was only the beginning, now, join us for the future of Elysium and Legacy Servers. Thank you again for the support you have given to us over these past few months. We are looking forward to continuing with development and moving towards our goal of building a better future within the legacy community.

Greetings Elysium Community, The time has come once again for Elysium to renew it’s web & server hosting — and we must humbly ask the community for assistance. Our current hosting is set to expire on the following: Zeth’Kur: March 10th Elysium: April 20th Anathema: Feb 22nd Darrowshire: Good for the next several months Webhost: Feb 16th (We had to swap to a new Web Host due to several technical issues we were having — previous Webhost donations went towards the purchase of new realms) We received such great support last time we opened donations — we wanted to reach out and thank you once again for contributing to keeping everyone online and able to continue this amazing experience! You can help to contribute by: 1) The hosting company we are using allows for anyone to directly pay for server hosting. This way, you are able to renew the servers. However, if you use this option, you must pay for the entire month, and not just a portion of it. Go to the OVH and enter machine ID to renew the servers! Zeth'Kur €310/month ns3015844.ip-151-80-103.eu Elysium €310/month ns3036052.ip-149-202-207.eu Anathema €310/month ns3044968.ip-149-202-211.eu 2) Directly to our Paypal account (the link is in the Control Panel: https://elysium-project.org/control/user/donate ). 3) Spreading the word! Servers should not be paid up for more than 3 months in advance, in case we need to make any changes to the realms with short notice. Once you have completed your donation, please contact me on Forum to update the status of the servers. Thank you again to everyone who has supported us in the past, and to those who are continuing to support the project every day. Sincerely, Elysium Staff

Since creating this project, I have had only one vision for Elysium: recreating my favorite version of WoW and playing/sharing it with all of my friends. As of late, there have been many things in our path that have attempted to de-rail this vision. The most recent has been individuals questioning my integrity and ability to lead the project. As a final act of good faith to the community, to stop harmful rumors, and in order to secure the continued success of the Elysium Project; I will be resigning to protect the project from any harm which would be cased by the witch hunt against me. The truth is, I already have resigned. For the past month I have been assembling and promoting leads to different sections of the project, but have been absent from day to day operations. These sections are Development, Community, QA, and Game Masters. Each of these sections has their own responsibilities and concerns, but their leaders act as a core unit to lead the project. Each group has equal authority in running Elysium. This ensures that each part gets an equal voice and control over the server's destiny. It also means that no one individual can have more access or control than the others, eliminating the potential of abuse. In the past week, I have completely stepped away from leading the project. This was the final test to see if the project would be stable without my presence, and it has with flying colors. I can say with certainty that many of the problems we have experienced in the past have been resolved, and internally, there have been great improvement. I have no doubt in my mind that the new structure will maintain focus on the community, as well as remain committed to the original values we founded the Elysium project on. Following my post, the new leaders of the project will be introducing themselves along with their respective roles and plans for the future. They will be answering any questions you have about the details of this new structure, how it will work, and what you can expect from it. At the end of the day, we have a great number of active players, stability, and one of the most progressed server (in terms of bugfixes) in private server history. This change to staff structure is the final installation needed to take the Elysium Project to new heights. I am very proud of what we have accomplished so far with Elysium, and I want to thank all of the team members involved over the past several months. To the players, content creators, game masters, developers, open source contributors, and other staff members — we couldn’t have achieved what we have achieved without you. My goal was to create a united legacy movement, and I think we succeeded for a brief time — regardless of who gave up or ran away scared. I really hope that one day we will see a rebirth of this unity so we can prove how truly great the private server scene can be. The Elysium Project is run by the community, for the community. I hope that this decision will properly reflect this fact. With that, I bid you all adieu. Shenna

Greetings, We are very excited to announced that we are now officially open source! The great thing about creating the public repository with Elysium in particular, is that the contributions that the community can make to the project will be on an active server, allowing contributors to have a direct and positive impact on a large playerbase. We will be posting instructions, guidelines and rules for public collaboration very soon. We are really excited to see what open source development can do for the emulation community, and can’t wait to see where the future takes us! A massive thank you to everyone involved, especially our community. We cannot wait to start working with you! This topic is a continuation of the previous discussions “Unexpected Downtime” & “Recent Issues & Future Plans” Your donations and you… Better known as “Donations from the community and where did they go” As you all know, we had a chargeback recently that caused the account to go into the Red (negative balance) and it almost put our account under lockout. So let’s take a trip down payment history lane and show you where things are going and how it is going to be used. When the individual who did the chargeback contacted their banking institution to enact this, it put the account into the negative and shutdown the server. So between NA/EU/CN we raised about $5.7k Euros, the transaction logs being paid directly to OVH and the dates they were paid are below. However, we will not show individual donations due to privacy concerns. But between the players from ALL over the world, we were able to get the server back up and running and paid up until the following: So, where are the rest of the donations going to in the future and how are they being used? As they always have been: Server Upkeep & Misc. server costs (additional IPs, anti-DDoS protection) OVH Premium Support Services (to make sure we can get support 24/7) Backup server with 3x4TB RAID 5 setup, not hosted at OVH to ensure external storage in case provider issues appear Domain Names & Website Certificates Jira License (developer’ task-manager) Github Premium Mail Services (Sendgrid, etc.. this is how email gets to you from us to reset passwords) Forum Licenses Misc. marketing (voice acting, video production, etc..) So, as some might not know, Elysium is not a registered company for obvious reasons so every PayPal account will be a private account. Also, when Anathema was taken offline, it also affected the control panel, so you couldn’t use the donation links like we had in the past. In conclusion, we appreciate the community and have always stood behind our community because you are the driving force that keeps us going, that keeps us working on the server and to constantly put out updates to better the server and the future of this project. Sincerely, Elysium Staff

Greetings, citizens of Azeroth! The time has come again to take up arms in the defense of our lands from foes who would see us all destroyed. This so-called Lord Kazzak has been summoned to the Blasted Lands to threaten our people, while a fearsome blue dragon known as Azuregos has made itself known to the world in the distant Azshara. Would you be willing to take up arms and defend this world from those who would see its demise? Then rise up, adventurers! Take up arms and see them slain! And for those unable to take on the might of such powerful creatures? I implore you to investigate the distant forests of Feralas on reports of the local Ogres amassing their numbers in The Dire Maul. Their barbaric rituals and pit fighting have attracted several number to their ranks and they must be dealt with before it is decided that settlements outside their walls are under their domain. Hark, adventurers of Azeroth, and prepare yourselves for the battles ahead! Beginning at 18:00 GMT+1, we will deploying the changes coinciding with Patch 1.3 for the Elysium and Zeth’kur realms.

Dear community, First of all, we want to thank everyone who supported us over the past few days and since the launch of the servers back in December. Together we’ve managed to throw together the necessary sum and pay for the servers in advance, largely due to our loyal members. You know who you are, so we thank you. Once again we’ve shown that a there’s a close community of people from across the world who actually want to play Vanilla WoW and with your dedication and support you have shown this through and through. You’ve shown we can rely on you. A special thank you goes out to our NA/EU players who vocally and financially supported us during the recent issue with our hosting provider and most importantly the Chinese players who came together to help provide for the server so that everyone can continue to enjoy Vanilla gaming. Usually they are silent, and proved that even though many players make snide remarks and blame them for everything, they came together to help support the project and to prove that they deserve a place of recognition here at Elysium. For all of our players, across the globe, the constant support, the silent supporters, vocal and devout majority continue to provide proof that the Legacy Movement is worth fighting for and we will not give up on that dream. Here are the expiration dates for our machines: Anathema: September 2017 Darrowshire: October 2017 Zeth’Kur: May 2017 Elysium: October 2017 Website: October 2017 Backup Server: June 2017 All recent donations were directly paid to OVH, this can be confirmed by the expiration dates. Upcoming changes to our server infrastructure Currently our lead system administrator Crogge is working together with Whitekidney and Zaph on upcoming infrastructure changes. These changes include for example additional redundancy in form of proper SQL replication, improved RAID setups and security improvements. This way the amount of possible downtime can be decreased noticeable on each realm, especially in case of major server failures or a third party issue as we had it on Anathema. With these improvements Anathema could have been moved within a few hours to a different machine and continue operation without any database rollback. Crogge will post an announcement with further details after these changes have been implemented. It’s been two weeks since we went Open Source It’s been two weeks since we launched our open source initiative and we’re pleased to have had some constructive and fruitful dialogue with the community on our public development Discord channels, as well a healthy number of early contributions to the core. Over the coming weeks we’ll be making organisational improvements to the repository on GitHub aimed at helping newcomers getting started with working with the core and database, as well as streamlining the development process for those wishing to contribute to the core as well the team’s own developers. One of the major complaints about the project’s development has been the introduction of new issues after many of the weekly updates and hotfixes. With this new workflow implemented, every update will go through a more rigorous testing process before being deployed to the live realms. In terms of current development priorities, we’ve received encouraging feedback from players testing encounters on their self-hosted cores and as we invite guilds to participate on the PTR, we’ll continue to work on polishing and tuning the encounters. News on project rules Over the past month the GM team has been reflecting on the Terms of Use, and the impact some of our rules have on the community. We are very conscious of the fact that the rules keep the server “fair” for all players, but if they are too restrictive those same players are unfairly punished. We want to make sure the rules achieve the goal of a fair, balanced and enjoyable playing experience for all. We have already made one major change to the policies by creating a much more accomodating quest item restoration policy (See here: https://forum.elysium-project.org/topic/39835-announcements-from-gm-team) We will also be using this same thread to let you know important GM related information — so keep an eye for future announcements. We are listening, so if there is anything in particular that the rules allow/preclude that you think we should change feel free to post it in the suggestion sub-forum. Community Ambassadors We’re happy to welcome our Community Ambassadors: active community members who help people on the multi-language forums and in Discord channels. Elysium & Zeth’Kur goes to Patch 1.3! We’re happy to announce that your realms will be updated to Patch 1.3 with new realm bosses Azuregos and Kazzak which will start to appear in-game on March 25th. We will also complete the fix for the PvP set itemizations for your realms. Good luck out there, it’s going to be a battle for sure. Summing it up and ending the drama So as you can see, we have been quite busy over the last few weeks, moving towards greener pastures and putting processes into place that not only better the Vanilla community as a whole, but for everyone who contributes towards the unification of Legacy Gaming as well. In conclusion, we do not want the Elysium Project to be synonymous with the atmosphere of drama and constant backstabbing common for the private emulation scene. This is our home and we’re going to protect it. However, we do want to thank everyone on the staff for their bravery and resilience. Together we have weathered all the attacks that have been aimed at us personally, all the real life threats, blackmail and libel. We want to thank our players for the priceless support they’ve provided when they asked us not to give up. We’re happy to see that the vast majority of loyal players believe in us and understand that Elysium is more than just another private server. There’s also a silver lining to all the trouble we’ve gone through: our team is now stronger and we’ve got new talent coming in, including people from other projects. This is actual proof that our idea of a unified community is a really good one. At the end of the day, everything we do is for our players. Sincerely, Elysium Staff

Greetings, In regards to recent events on Anathema with the 1.9 patch, the gear was unintentionally reverted to a pre buffed state on R12/13. When we build the world, it is layered with 1.12.1 initially and then it has to be subsequently “downgraded” to give us the content patch of 1.9 for example. Many of you know that this buffed state was put into place by Nostalrius prior to them shutting down and we did make a statement, saying that the PvP gear would not be touched on Anathema due to the length of time that the gear was made available to everyone who chose to put in the effort to grind to R12/13. We understand the efforts of all the dedicated PvP’ers out there and we are actively listening to our community, we want you to know that we will revert the gear on Anathema PvP, because as of now it would be far too late to undo what was already in place. Had we removed it at the start of the relaunch, that would have been a different story. Further note, Darrowshire, Elysium and Zeth’Kur will have their R12/13 gear put to the proper stats of their pre-buffed state as that was not implemented by Nostalrius prior to relaunch. Elysium staff would like to note, that C’Thun got a little upset and stole all your gear. The items will be reverted tomorrow back to their previous state. We do want to mention that we are sorry to all the dedicated PvP’ers out there and we wish you good luck in your future battles. Sincerely, Elysium Staff

@indi We don't plan to merge realms because each realm has a independent community and a sensitive economy which could be heavily damaged. Currently the population of Zeth'Kur is still on a Blizzlike level and not taking any negative influence on PvP or PvE. A possible merge may take place if the population would drop permanently into ranges which would make PvP and PvE barely possible, that doesn't seem to be the case currently. We plan to publish new content on Zeth'Kur to stabilize the population and entertain the existing playerbase. If there ever is a need to consider merging Zeth'Kur our first step would be to get input from the Zeth'Kur community, the opinion of our community is important for us.

Well, the basement is always still an option... That's why we're doing backups ;) But Killerduki & Theloras should go.

What Can I Do To Play This Game By Myself & Offline?
Shenna replied to Slay2055's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Yeah, private servers are overrated ;) -
Dear players! Thank you for your valuable and active feedback. As you know, the Elysium team is always ready and willing to listen to you and acknowledge if we were wrong. After receiving your feedback, we've decided to change our plans on War Effort and go back to Blizzlike philosophy. We'll recalculate the resource requirements, taking into account any changes due to reduced number of players. Bear in mind: we also want to see the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj open as soon as possible. Sincerely, Elysium Staff

Dear players, Our lovely Anathema is back up :) We thank all for your support and everyone who helped us. We'll release more detailed statement tomorrow.

Dear community, We would like to inform you about the current situation of Anathema. Today, Anathema was shutdown due to unknown reasons. We suspected possible attacks but came quickly to the conclusion that the IP address has been disabled. We contacted the OVH support immediately and have been told that the server is currently not paid hence it has been temporary disabled, they assured though that the data is fully intact. After further investigations we saw that 2000.00 USD have been charged back, this amount was donated by a large/known guild on Anathema. OVH will contact their headquarters in France tomorrow to resolve the situation, we expect a reply by early noon. In the meanwhile we will have to pay 3 months in advance for Anathema; the server is currently paid only until the 22nd February, 2017, hence we have currently a shortfall of 3 weeks. Due to the recent events we are forced to disable direct server payments for an unknown amount of time, Anathema is currently marked as ruptured/fraud and we have to avoid this by all means in the future or OVH will lock the entire account. Also, we will do careful investigations why the guild has executed the chargeback and take actions accordingly. We may lock all related accounts until this investigation has been finished. In the meantime, you can help us to collect the required amount of money for Anathema, either by using the CP links or this direct Paypal and Yandex links: PayPal | Yandex.Money We appreciate your support and loyalty towards the project, we will write an update regarding the situation as soon as we receive a reply from OVH. We expect this within 12-16 hours. Sincerely, Elysium Staff
