    PvE Pets for Hunter

DKD420, I usually run a wolf in raids because pets are squishy and die to aoe abilities. The wolf's Furious Howl provides bonus damage to your next attack and has a 10s CD. Dungeons are more forgiving, so you can run other pets for straight dps. I know Cats (like broken tooth) are among the highest output of dps, but most people covet broken tooth in particular because of his 1.0 attack speed, which is very nice when disrupting casters in pvp. BogyOne, I haven't personally tried the wolves from AV, but I also haven't seen any super speedy ones racing on the server. I remember that particular bug during retail (and it was glorious!), but Blizzard fixed it and private servers such as this don't normally go out of their way to re-introduce such bugs.

    Hunter Agility Equivalence Points Formula?

If this is for leveling, don't overthink it. Don't worry about crit rates because spiky damage like that will pull threat off your pet, just focus on raising your agility and attack power, then depending on your server/preferences stack some stamina for survival or intellect for longevity (or both). If you can get a piece with +hit, wear it. It's rare that you're going to be presented with two options that are close enough to worry about, and even so they'll be upgraded soon enough anyway. Unless you're twinking, save the min-max for lvl 60. Hunters are the least gear-reliant class when it comes to leveling because you usually go Beast Mastery and your pet does all the dirty work (and you could be naked for all he cares).

    Hunter Agility Equivalence Points Formula?

You're trying to simplify stat interactions that aren't all that simple. Ignoring talents, at zero crit, +1% crit provides (on average) a 1% increase in dps. But additional points in crit rate experience diminishing returns. Going from 1% crit to 2% crit is only a 0.99% increase in dps. By the time you're at 25% crit, that next % will only increase dps by 0.80%. Factoring in 30% bonus damage from Mortal Strikes helps weight the benefits of crit. Going from 0% to 1% provides 1.30% increase whereas going from 25% to 26% provides 0.98% increase. With attack power, the gains are calculated differently. To calculate a 1% increase in dps, you need to factor in your weapon's avg dps. Let's say your bow averages 30 dps and you have 0 attack power. Your bow provides what is basically a base of 420 attack power (30*14), so to see a 1% increase in dps, you need to add 4.2 attack power. When you reach 1500 attack power (including bow dps), you need an additional 15 attack power for 1% increase to dps. So as you can see, there's no simple equivalency. Each stat is dependent on your current statline. If you have high attack power, extra crit may give you better gains in dps. If you have high crit, then you should probably focus on attack power. Generally speaking, with pre-raid gear you should be focusing on reaching hit cap primarily, which will dictate much of your selections. After that, I would focus on adding as much agility as you can, with some crit pieces providing a good chunk of agility/attack power as well. Once you start raiding, there's not a lot of decisions to make as the tier gear is bis so long as you remain hit capped. If you still want to dumb it down, with talents, any increase in crit% will provide you a little over 1% increase in dps until you hit 25% crit, at which point you will receive a little less than 1%, but the simple math would be about 1%. For attack power, look at your character sheet Ranged AP, then add 450 (for bloodseeker xbow, adjust as needed) and 110 for hunter's mark, and take 1% of the total. That's about how much AP you need to equal 1% crit. So to convert this into Agility, we know 53 agi is 1% crit, so let's simplify it and say it's 50 agi instead. So every 10 agi is worth about 0.2% crit and 20 ap. If you have 2000 AP, you're receiving about a 1.2% increase with an extra 10 agility. If you have only 1000 ap, it's actually a 2.2% increase. So if you're comparing gear/etc, start by figuring out what % increase you're getting from agility/attack power, then factor in any increases/decreases in crit% accordingly. This, of course is purely from a character sheet perspective....the biggest gains/losses in dps will be from proper/improper application of a shot rotation, and equipping an appropriate ranged weapon to maximize that rotation's potential.

    Are tier sets any good?

For hunters, all raid set pieces are upgrades over pre-raid, assuming hit capped. 8/8 T1 is bis until you can get 8/8 T2. AQ set is garbage.

  7. That is wrong. The old elysium server had all items available with the corrected stats, but Nostalarius made the extra effort to keep the item database historically accurate on a per-patch basis. I would expect more of that in the new servers.

BBC Coverage - good or bad?

Blizzard won't release legacy servers. They're too caught up in their own brand. If anything, they'd release a "WoW: Remastered" that would follow a similar storyline, but everything would be reworked from the ground up and would merely feel like a new expansion and nothing like vanilla.

    Hunters and Racials

+5 bow skill is not negligible. Taking your bow skill to 305 against a Boss is the equivalent of about 2% hit. Anything past those first 5 skill points is pretty negligible though. If the mob's defense skill is no more than 10 points higher than your weapon skill: Miss Rate = 5% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill) * 0.1% If the mob's defense skill is more than 10 points higher than your weapon skill: Miss Rate = 6% + (Defense Skill - Weapon Skill - 10) * 0.4% Do note that the second equation adds an extra 1% penalty to the base rate. Using those formulas, we see the following miss rates: Lvl 60 Mob = 5.0% Lvl 61 Mob = 5.5% Lvl 62 Mob = 6.0% Lvl 63 Mob = 8.0% Source: http://vanilla-wow.wikia.com/wiki/Miss I know they use lvl 80 in the examples, but I have seen no difference in my own experience on Nost. Practically speaking, works well in MC/BWL until you get the X-bow off Chromag. At that point, you should have plenty of +hit gear anyway, especially if you invest into the +3 hit scope.

I don't have the list in front of me right now, so I don't know our position with Resto Shaman, but I'd have to think there's going to be opportunities either way. We distribute our loot using a loot council, consisting of the officers and class leads. We spread it out as fairly as we can (no hoarders here!). We're here for the fun of raiding, and loot is a means to an end. Of course, loot is part of the fun, but more often than not you'll see people passing to others because even if you don't get it yourself, you know it's going to someone who deserves it. A lot of the time, the individual classes already have these things worked out. The casters already know who's getting the next big staff, the melee already know who that nice trinket is going to. The new druid is going to be 8/8 t2 by the end of the night because that's apparently all that drops for us...

We're getting the gang back together again! **Cut to montage of Docken traveling the world to let TBO members know that Nost is back (Montage music is "Hooked on a Feeling"). Some have started new families. Some have taken the time to advance their careers. Others just get piss-drunk everyday. The emotions run wild: happiness for what is to come, sadness for the time that was lost, fear of trusting too much again. Yet there is tears in everyone's eyes as they throw away their new lives and embrace that which has risen anew. TEAM BLACKOUT IS BACK, BABY!** Seriously, though, come join <Team Blackout>, where three thunderfuries aren't enough!
  14. I believe this is directed to those on the Fresh PvP realm.

    Breakdowns from a Nost Vet

Can only respond from a Horde/PvE perspective. For raiding, the only viable tank is warrior. The itemization/scaling just isn't favorable for a druid tank. Pretty sure the same can be said for Paladin, but again I only have experience with horde. Melee DPS: Rogue and Warrior do amazing melee dps, some raids roll with an enhancement shaman but is a gimmiky role. There is usually a high population of dps warriors, so be prepared to fight to earn and keep that raid slot. Feral druids can't keep up and their buff doesn't make up for the sacrifice of other dps. Ranged DPS: Mages/Locks are best. A competent hunter that understands a proper shot rotation will do well, but scales poorly in later raids. Elemental shaman and boomkins generally aren't worth the raid slots. An argument can be made for a good shadow priest. Healers: Can't really go wrong with any of the classes, I think priest is king, followed by shaman then druid. No comment about paladin.
  16. <Team Blackout> is a NA-based raiding guild originally founded on the Nostalrius PvP server. There, we had great success in farming all available raid content (MC, BWL, ZG) and were getting primed for the release of AQ before the server was closed. We've established a new home here on Elysium with at least 50% of our raiding core rejoining us for round 2 of vanilla content. While progressing through the raid content is our goal, it's not our life. We enjoy a relaxed raid schedule (2 nights a week), and more often than not we've got music playing in the background. We get serious when we need to get serious, but otherwise we highly encourage everyone to partake in their beverage of choice and just have fun. If interested in joining: Please contact Docken (GM) or ask for one of our officers/class leads, such as myself (Demonatrix). Requirements to Join: Be chillRaid Schedule: All times are US Eastern Tuesdays 8pm - Midnight Thursdays 8pm - Midnight Off-nights are used for optional 20mans like ZG, AQ20 (as announced) Requirements to Raid: Be chill Show up on time, with consumables, the right talent spec, and guild-required addons. Ventrilo (We're old-school like that). Only need to listen, don't need a mic. Follow instructions and understand your role for each fight. International folks are welcome so long as you can communicate effectively in English. Loot Distribution: We use a loot council consisting of the officers and class leads. We keep detailed records on who has received which items and when. We take many things into consideration such as attendance, performance, and loot history. Fun Facts About Team Blackout: We had 3 completed Thunderfuries on Nostalrius, all in-guild. We can't believe it either, but RNGesus loved us, I guess. We have members from around the world. Our Guild Master knows that "one weird trick" you've all read about online. The "two drink minimum" is more of a guide than a rule. We don't have a rule for a maximum... Friday nights are Japanese karaoke nights. Join Team Blackout! Where Every Raid Has A Two Drink Minimum!
  17. Hi soilwork, First off, welcome to the community! The devs spent this weekend upgrading the server hardware, so things have been kind of bumpy the last couple of days and is not the norm for this server. In my experience, when I have the wrong realmlist, I don't get an error message, I just get insta-disconnected (because I never connected). So the fact that you're receiving that particular error tells me that your realmlist is pointing to a valid server and that the login credentials for that server is incorrect. If I were you, I would confirm (again) that your realmlist saved correctly. Try "logon.valkyrie-wow.com" as the realmlist address. If you're convinced the realmlist is correct, try creating a 2nd account and see if you can login with that. It's possible something got mixed up with your new account during the server maintenance period.
