Super general questions about Vanilla - no experience/beginner!
Undertanker replied to MisterRay's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
No problem. Raiding is 75% preparation, and mana management for healers matters. Warriors can't LoL AoE tank so be patient with them. Hybrid specs are weak in raids for the most part and only 1 per might be allowed for specific reasons. -

Super general questions about Vanilla - no experience/beginner!
Undertanker replied to MisterRay's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
GENERAL 1. What makes Vanilla so awesome for you (in your opinion)? It is a time sync in a good way. Instances/raids are not obsolete because the next thing is out. There are reasons to continue to do all raids as there are BiS items scattered around the different raids. It requires being social and your reputation is everything. You ninja, it will get blasted and you will never get a good raiding spot again with any decent guild. Can't name change and hide. 2. How hard is it to grind to level 60? What is the average time to level? Warrior is very gear dependent, rogue is close to same issue. Other classes, their abilities get them by just fine, however it is more of a grind than a challenge. Some quest are hard because there are elite quest, and quest that involve camps of mobs that may be crowded, or in a contested zone. If you know what you are doing and stay focused the ENTIRE time and go hardcore no downtime 5.5 days played. Take your time, 8-10 days played. 3. Is farming gold a struggle? About 1 hour of farming for every 2 hours you raid if you are using full consumables. Some classes farm better than others, see class forums. 4. What is the "highest" item level? http://db.vanillagaming.org/?items#0-2+1 lvl 92. However in Vanilla best gear doesn't always mean highest level. With Naxx gear tier items this may be true, but for off items and lower raids, prioritize the stats the gear gives you, not what "iLVL" it is. You are not judged by that in Vanilla, throw that mindset out of the window. 5. How difficult is it to get epic/legendary gear? To get Epic gear, you have to raid 20 / 40 mans. They are not hard, however if you go in not knowing what you are doing, you may wipe the raid if you had an assigned job. Read up on boss strats or ask questions before a pull. In 40 mans, bosses may drop only 2 items, sometimes 3. So loot comes slow, be patient. Thunderfury typlically goes to a main tank or 2 first, then a rogue or fury might have a shot in a guild. Some guilds got 3-4 in 14 months, some got 0. Its RNG. 3% from 2 different bosses in MC, gotta get both bindings. The Legendary Hammer is best for a shammy or pally pvper, low drop rate for eye from Rag and the ignots needed to craft it drop every few MC runs. On average a guild should be able to make one once a year unless they do double runs of MC. 6. Are there flying mounts? Nope. 7. Do you see yourself playing on Vanilla servers for the next, let's say, 2 years? If yes, why? If no,why? Yes, I've played Vanilla for multiple years, while I want to clear Naxx, I also want to have it on sweet 1-2 night farm status. I don't want to quit with BiS gear, I want to own people in open word with by Shield block Value stacking shield slam crits - end game prot pvp. 8. Since it's just "Vanilla" servers, how do they update content? It's pretty impossible, correct? Unlike retail where a new raid comes out and the others are obsolete, even when the last raid is released, there are still BiS items in BWL, favorable pieces in MC, AQ 40, enchant items needed in ZG, and a nice item here or there in AQ20. 9. Which stats are there? For example, legion has multistrike, versatility, etc. while Vanilla has attack damage, spirit, etc? Little information on this matter would be great. Stamina , Agil , Str, Spirit, Int, Spell crit %, Spell hit %, + Spell power, + healing, + MP5/HP5, +resist (element), +defense, +Dodge %, + Parry %, + Crit %, +hit %, +attack power, +melee attack power / +ranged attack power, +x amount of damage, +chance on hit weapons (for procs) 10. Do addons work? If yes, where to get the old versions? At Curse.com? The addon section of the forum should have an addon pack that has a good amount of essentials. Use Google: "Vanilla addon <name>" when you see a video or forum referencing an addon you don't have but are interested in. 11. If you have the most updated WoW installed, do I have to uninstall it in order to play on Elysium? You need to have the 1.12.1 client installed, see "Help" section of forum to get a 1.12.1 client. 12. Is there a skill tree? Do you upgrade abilites? Talent Tree: http://db.vanillagaming.org/?talent You learn different ranks of abilities and spells from your class trainer every 2 levels new abilities are avialble. Make sure if it is a spell to open your spell book and add the highest rank to your action bar. Note: healers down rank heals with +healing gear on. See healing sections for more info. A mage might keep rank 1 frost bolt on bar at all times for a fast snare ability. CLASSES 1. Best tank class? Best damage class? Best healing class? - PVE : Warrior best overall tank for hard hitting mobs. Pally best AoE tank, doesn't have taunt so have to play smart with that, can't tank certain bosses or have to change mechanics. Druid can't get crit/crush off the hit table, but high EPH for magic damage based bosses. End game damage: Fury Warrior / Warlock > Rogue / Mage > Shadow Priest / Hunter > Feral Druid / Ret Pally / Shaman ele-enhance / Balance Druid 2. Best tank class (if it exists)? Best damage class? Best healing class? - PVP Druids best flag carriers. Hunters/Rogues good defenders Mage and lock are both strong, mage more survival skills. Warrior Arms needs a healer. Pally most "tanky" healers. 3. If there is no "best class", briefly explain which class is amazing and why: no. PROFESSIONS 1. Do professions exist? Yes 2. Easiest profession to level vs. hardest profession to level? Skinning is easy. Alchemy is easy. Blacksmithing and enchanting can suck 3. Profession that makes you "a lot" of gold? Herbing rare black lotus and other high demand herbs, or getting the rare raid enchantment patterns. PvE 1. From level 1-60, any dungeons? If yes, does it work with a queue system or you have to walk there by yourself? Many instances, first for horde is RFC, first for alli is VanCleaf / Deadmines. Run there yourself, no queue system. Remember when I said you have to be sociable and your reputation matters, this is where that starts. 2. Raids? How many? Level of difficulties? 40 men or what are the group sizes? In Order Onxyia/MC = 40 man, then BWL = 40 man, then ZG = 20 man, then AQ20 and AQ 40 release at the same time. Then Naxx 40. Plenty of content with valuable stuff in all of these. 3. Loot drop = roll the dice? Need/greed system? If you need something in a 5 man, hit need, if you don't hit greed. In raids, masterlooter by raid leader is typically used. PvP 1. 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 arenas exist? Nope. 2. Battlegrounds exist? Yes, WSG, AB, and 40 man AV. -

Last one was up for just a couple hours. First stress test was testing the hardware Elysium already had, but with the Nost core on it and will be the hardware for the PVE server. Was capped at 7.5k people This weekend stress test is for the PVP server hardware. Cap should be higher to test server capabilities. Should be up for around the same amount of time, be there: -
[Idea]Community awards for helping Nostalrius?
Undertanker replied to Ragiral's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Maybe donation tiers for real life items such as a coffee mug / water bottle / keychain / mouse pad of the project/server name. Not sure if that opens the door for legal issues, however out of game items may encourage people to donate a larger sum at once to meet one of these tiers. -
I recommend you get in touch with the support team of what ever email account that is. Secure your email account and you won't have an issue.

I see many pally that go after crit gear for increasing the benefit of Illumination talent. Commonly healers go for Robe of Volatile Power over Robes of the Exalted for 10 more Int and 2 crit at the cost of +45 healing. Go 1 crit 5 int > 22.5 healing by their preference in this slot. However, I then see healers go for Briarwood Reed over Eye of the Beast, reviewing the math above, Eye of the Beast is worth well more than 29 healing. It seems very counter productive if you are valuing crit so much on the chest slot but not the trinket slot.

Battleground Queue Times
Undertanker replied to Banezilla's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
People who tend to look at doing PVP more than PVE roll horde, there is a higher overall interest in PVP on horde side. So alli get instant queues, horde have to farm honor in world pvp while waiting for their queue to pop. -
Which class to start fresh with?
Undertanker replied to gotmilk0112's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Repeating an instance you don't have quest for is a really bad way to attempt to gain exp for levels. It will take 4-6 hours of instance running compared to what you can do in 2 hours so solo grinding. -
@Banezilla we are talking about the queue to login to the game, not the BG queue. @Killerduki we are not disputing having or not having a queue (server cap), we are suggesting that the raiding and ranking scene isn't affected too greatly from the queue, and ensure safeguards are in place due to server disconnect.

Drain linked those already.

Nost/Elysium Weekly Reset Time
Undertanker replied to Undertanker's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
The latest NA guild raids until 1:00 EST *(7:00 CET). On Nost 1.0 it was moved as far back as 4:00 EST 10:00 CET. I think 8 CET should work for most people, that is 2:00am US east coast, (some US guilds raid latter to include west coast guild members who are 3 hours behind). -
Correct. But the points that are made are valid. Skipping the queue isn't blizzlike for a 60, however there is good reason for having it implemented like Grave and I pointed out. The 5 min rule was implemented in retail back in the day. The AFK timer may need to be decreased, and also probably a shorted character select screen afk as well. Will help any queues flow quicker.

Also there is a PVE section you could post in as well. Not being a smart-попа here, but seriously you need to go to the guild recruitment section sooner than later. Look for a guild for the faction and server you plan on rolling on if you do not have a character on Elysium or Nost - PVP or the Nost PVE server. Tank positions fill up FAST and unlike healer or dps raid positions, 4 is the max you take and typically have the least turnover rate of any position in a guild. Many guilds are taking applications similar to what you are typing up above and may ask for UI screen shots (you can get your UI ready connecting to a different project while you wait for launch day), what add-ons you use and due to you being very young during your time as proclaimed main tank in 2005, you might be subject to a Team Speak verbal quiz from some of the more serious guilds that may have current tank applicants with proven track records via realmplayers.com. TL;DR - tank spots are cut throat, go find a guild that suites your needs and apply. Apply to a couple guilds for a tank position, guilds are not searching the forums for a tank for raids. Just for a 5 man

This also entails duel boxing. Which is not allowed here. It was allowed on retail because you are paying for multiple subscriptions, they looked the other way when people QQ about it. Accounts are free, so some areas that were of limited abuse then are of massive abuse potential now.

Mob damage is never an issue, but it is still there. If you can avoid getting hit 1-2 times while doing the same amount of damage, then it is worth it. Not feeling like pressing a button vs not worth it is different.
