I indeed am an idiot since I'll answer you again. Mind Flay's debuff is the slow effect same as Ice Bolt's slow effect and gets pushed off really easily but the damage still ticks. Vampiric Embrace is required only on few boss fights and it's actually there for a reason. I have no clue why everyone is using MF/VE as an arguement when it comes to debuff slots. No Shadow Priest in their right mind will use VE unless it's needed because it'll harm the spriest's DPS due to aggro issues. If Shadow Word: Pain does more damage than Corruption then it SHOULD be up on the boss unless all your warlocks are specced SM/Ruin. The reason this happens is because Shadow Priests stack more SP than every other caster class because of the high spell hit they have from talents, not that much because of Shadowform/Darkness. I admit Spriests have more % bonuses to shadow damage though. My guess is SW:P application might change with Ahn Qiraj or even Naxxramas patch but not sure yet. I stay strong on Spriest DPS > Holy Priest DPS unless you give raidlog, doesn't matter what and how long of a fight. PS: I love how you mention wasted debuff slots BUT you want judgement for bonus holy damage up on the boss. Unless you are in a guild with strange specs, that is. 10/10 post.

You don't use only Mind Flay as Shadow, SW:P is ticking way harder than Corruption for example and you use Mind Blast on short fights. People who don't like it up on the boss are either protecting other debuffs (certain fights) or don't know the damage output of SW:P. "A number of raids will skip the Shadow Priest though and have a healing priest talent for Shadow Weaving instead." Please give raidlog of a raid with such Priest. I've already tried healing+stacking SW on boss and it didn't work well because even with 10% spell hit from talents I got a lot of resists which resulted in me being busy stacking debuff and not being able to heal. Don't get me wrong, I haven't made any calculations on such hybrid spec and my opinion is based on what I experienced in the two raids I tried this. But I still feel like it's not worth half-assing either the Healing or DPS role just so you can "remove" that shadowy guy in your raid. I have no input about Holy DPS and Undeads as Midoriko mentioned, so may be then Holy Priest DPS would be viable. Who knows. :D Again, IF your guild is fine with bringing funny/hybrid specs, all of this doesn't matter. You can bring wanding priests for all I care. Take care now. On-topic: Holy DPS (read: Smite spam, Holy Fire sucks D') is fun in a way you're like a machine gun but impossible to be compared with a pure DPS or even a Shadow Priest since it'll require a lot of IF's to do even remotely good DPS. Like, being Alliance for Sanctity aura and wasted debuff slot on boss for more holy damage. Not bringing any utility that's not offered by other Priest specs is devaluating even more such spec. But if your guild is okay with funny specs, I guess you can make one and bring it to a raid for that awesome 300 DPS tops.

I personally found out that around 6,000 mana is where you can be really comfortable with farming lashers. I guess it's a bit less then if others are doing it with smaller mana pool. I suggest using Smokey's Lighter and Burst of Knowledge if you don't have good passive/active trinkets already. That's what I used a lot when I was farming the lashers, and eventhough they both have 15m CDs you just switch them around accordingly. And the Inner Focus+Holy Nova as others have suggested but I guess you probably already know that.

What does this Mind Flay macro do? Cancels MF cast if there's already Mana Drain/Mind Flay up? You can have 2 shadow priests in raid actually, both's Mind Flays will tick but only one will have the animation, or that's what I've experienced so far. I guess it gets more confusing with Mana Drain on? Dunno. Also, I'm gonna hijack this thread and ask what macros you guys use? So far I only got inner focus+devouring plague which is mostly pvp/5man (and not really a macro :D).

My numbers were probably off, that post was early in the morning. And concerning the DMF trinket; I haven't managed to proc Blue Dragon out of Mind Flay so it's safe to say it sucks for Shadow since that's your main spell casted regularly. Of course, if you are extremely lucky you should use it instead of Shard of the Scale. Thank Haitharn, Deathlace and all the rest for the small errors and mistypes in the original post. Holy Shroud is also nice for pre-raid if you don't have the gold to get Cassandra's Grace. And as Haestigas mentioned, Spirit of Aquementas is incredibly overpowered in it's 1.3 patch version. The -25 mana cost is incredible for a healer.
