Do you have a source on whether or not there was a rule Blizzard made regarding communicating and collaborating with the opposite faction? Why would they set up a forum for this exact purpose if it was supposed to be against the rules? Regarding your definition of griefing, competition for world objectives is not griefing. If someone on your faction takes a treasurechest you clearly saw first, but you're clearing the mobs surrounding it, that isn't a bannable offense. The faction system is implemented as-is and the rules surrounding it are not stated for interpretation, they are followed exactly as they are written in code. If you don't agree with that, you're in the very small minority of people who feel like your interpretation of the game's intended mechanics is different than what they are in reality. That's ok, it's just not correct historically nor is there a consensus that agrees with you. In fact, most people agree the opposite is true, which is why you are facing so much resistance in this thread.

In retail Blizzard set up a realm forum where I regularly chatted with members of the opposing faction.

Historically on retail and Nost there has never been a rule against making a character on another faction. I know plenty of people who play and have played on both. The following two things are facts: There is no rule against playing on both factions on a server. There is no rule against, nor is there any way for anyone to prevent, communication between people in the internet. It follows that it is not consistent with the rules of the game, nor is it even possible, to enforce a rule against this behavior. The fact that you can, with no barrier to entry, form a group of people to compete with the incumbent farming party is yet another reason for GMs to have no reason to intervene in this behavior.

Yes. https://forum.elysium-project.org/topic/34789-development-update-25012017/?page=1 The "correct patch" afaik is patch 1.11 Let the record show I disagree with the decision to remove fishing pools. Fishing is fun and not having fishing pools is a pain in the ass. This is like if the GMs decided to remove some PVP battlegrounds or cross-city AH because it wasn't in the game until a certain patch. Some of these changes would have obviously been in the game at 1.0 if the original Blizz devs had time to fit it in the release schedule. On the other hand, in the case of pvp gear, progression, and dungeons, it makes sense to delay and release in intervals.

There is nothing stopping you from finding 2-3 people to help you kill them. What do you think is fair? If someone spends their time befriending and forging alliances on the server spanning multiple guilds in both factions, why should the GMs step in and intervene? Are you for some reason unable to do the same thing?

				Overpopulation ruins the experience...
metagame replied to insuruto's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Yeah, 12 years ago myself and the rest of the server could play WSG all day after highschool. I could do the same now, I would just have to give up on my professional ambitions to play WoW instead. I think the demographic of the game has changed over the years. Anyway, I've played vanilla WoW for about 4 years now, and any server with < 2k population has had AV only pop on AV weekends and sometimes on a saturday after 1-2 hour queue. At its peak on Nost, AV popped every 5 minutes with 2-3 games going on at a time. -

It isn't. I've spent a lot of time sitting in different zones with different playercounts timing mobs' respawn time. -

12-15k is the ideal population for a WoW server for PVP to feel alive because if you have fewer players the BG queues become very tiresome. Also, a smaller population makes it hard to find things on the AH. Trading and interacting with other players in the community makes the game more fun imo. Mob respawn rate is better with dynamic respawn, but I've done some observation of the algorithm and it seems to swing too far in one direction or another. It could use some balancing. I am not sure if it even effects quest mob respawn timers at all, if it doesn't, that would be a good suggestion. -
If every bug could be resolved within 5 minutes we wouldn't be on year 12 of WoW emulation with a bugtracker currently filled to the brim with unresolved reports. Have patience.

Another reason this is a good thing: since Nost/Elysium for some reason refuse to accept Bitcoin donations, I have never been able to donate to a project. Now I can put a BTC bounty on pull requests that resolve outstanding issues in the client.

Not sure what you're talking about re: addons, my post does not mention addons, nor do I have any interest discussing addons in this thread. Regarding security via obscurity, It's only a matter of time until the functionality is discovered and abused. In many cases the core will be leaked silently, at that point obscurity leads to a false sense of security. This is the worst situation possible from a security standpoint because trusting code to be obscured when it is already leaked, possibly for months, before detection is incredibly dangerous. It is better to write secure code from the beginning and open source it to be examined by experts. Relying on obscurity is a fool's errand; hackers will eventually reverse engineer or socially engineer their way to victory. Look at the bitcoin core code as an example. Completely open source and never hacked once, holds $17 billion worth of value in an open source system.

Anyone who thinks security through obscurity is a good idea is misguided. This is the best thing to happen to the Vanilla WoW community since original ED opened years ago.

This is cool and all, but you can get cooking from 125 to 300 by cooking fish you found standing in one spot at level 20. Since someone will point out you can't get fishing 300 at level 20, obviously you fish everything you need at level 20 and save the level 35 fish in your bank until you can cook them.

@Sidsukana congratulations! Is it possible you can ease the rate limiting on outgoing PMs? I am muted when whispering more than a few players to join my instance group. Using /who c-"Mage" z-"Wetlands" 23-26 for example to try to recruit mages for Stockades, if I find 5 people I can't even PM each of them without getting chat banned for an hour. It's incredibly annoying - almost impossible to form a group since most people don't use world chat and don't mind a PM offering to join a group. I also enjoy getting PMs from people who want me to tank/heal and I have noticed it doesn't happen often on this server. I'm 100% sure it's because of this malfunctioning anti-spam system.

A Frank Address And Statement on Recent Events and Revelations
metagame replied to Shenna's topic in Official Information
TL;DR some people secretly abused their position of power for personal gain. Action taken to remove bad actors post-discovery. News at 11. Transparency is a good thing. Unless you prefer to deceive yourself into thinking a team of people is going to be 100% legitimate and ethical at all times, this should not be a surprise to anyone. -
+1, this is often a blocker when putting groups together. Very annoying.

What you're saying would be true if it were the case that we will have a perfectly scripted vanilla WoW core within the near future. We won't, not for at least 5 years, IMHO. The amount of work and dedication it would take to make the game even close to perfect is insane. If you don't like pay-to-win servers then simply don't spend your time on them. The fact remains: in a world where all servers contributed to open-source, every server would benefit, even the "legit" ones that refuse to implement pay-to-win mechanics. -

No rage generation when attacking a shielded target.
metagame replied to o0oNullo0o's topic in Warrior
The same way a warrior deals with being in frost nova infinitely. Use a free action pot or in your case a rage pot and hope that it's enough. -
Do your own calculation to see what the best healing per mana spell you have is. Use that spell the most often. It may be a weird rank of Healing Touch depending on your +healing and what level you are. The rest comes down to your group doing what they are supposed to. Is the warrior using demo shout and disarm when they're off cooldown? Is the rogue opening with stunlock combo when there's a big pull or is he afk dpsing every pull? Encourage CC. If there is a mage in the group make sure he is using sheep. If there's a warlock, encourage your tank to pull mobs far backwards so the warlock can fear and possibly seduce as well. Warlocks are pretty OP for instances. Make sure your tank has a healthstone. Hunters can trap a mob, rogues can sap/ blind, priests can mind control, and you can use hibernate on beasts. These are pretty situational, but they exist for a reason. If you notice things can be done better say something. If you have trouble healing it's because the warrior is too low level or someone isn't CCing. The only other possibility is that your group just has no CC whatsoever, which is very unlikely. Most likely people just aren't using CC and no one has said anything. Say something about it!

Line of Sight In Warsong Gulch
metagame replied to Boney's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
This is the way the game was made. There isn't much LoS in the world. Pretty much only structures (walls and buildings) will block LoS. If you have a problem with it try finding a group with a hunter, mage, or warlock. No one ever said leveling a warrior was easy. There are many jumps in WSG that allow you to become unkillable with the flag. Most of them aren't in the middle of the field. -
