Welcome to the community! This is my first go at the Vanilla content since it was live and I was 15. But from my research the basic idea here is to be as frugal as possible. Only update the skills you will use, only buy upgrades if you need them. Range will be a cheaper 1st level rather than melee since melee are much more gear dependent. if it has a market on the AH, sell it there. Others may have more insight here but leveling certain Trades as you level will drain your funds with relatively little gain, BS comes to mind. Good luck out there!

We need to wait for this stuff to be live before we judge. They could very well be considering adjusting the spawn rates.

This server is a time capsule. Expect that and I think you will have a great time, it's a wormhole to a time past.

Big pro to a Hunter is a lack of competition for gear. I don't know first hand but it seems like the Hunter in vanilla is like chess, easy to learn, difficult to master. They can do very well, plus they are probably the easiest to level.

I guess the burnout factor isn't something I considered, I also didn't mean level to 60. I just meant get a taste for the characters. I think you can get a decent 'feel' before you invest too much time. But you're probably right that it's advisable to be careful how much time you invest in preparing for launch on other servers.

Not appropriate for these forums? Coming from the guy putting forth complaints about a swear word filter. The simple way to answer this guys questions was this: This server is here to recreate the good, bad and the ugly of the Vanilla era. As far as model changes, the anti-cheat mechanics used on this server require that changing game-files (however innocuous it may seem) is not allowed otherwise it compromises the anti-cheat system. Which I'm sure you would agree is more important than having updated game models.

I'm new to this community but I think the community should embrace the people with these questions. It is not obvious to the newcomers what the goal or the spirit of this realm will be. Simply answer the questions and inform them of what to expect. But to dismiss these questions and tell them to play elsewhere will only cause this community to become more and more insular, echo chamber activated. I've seen this in other EMU type servers, it really benefits the community if you welcome new people with open arms and honest answers to questions.

I'm a transplant from retail that played Vanilla but I am way more aware and a better player these days. I keep hearing about costs to level and ability to farm. Right now I'm leaning Lock or Rogue. I have seen multiple people say that Rogue/Warrior are the most expensive to play. Also that Mages/Locks are great farmers. What exactly do people farm? What costs are being associated as leveling costs?

I've recently found this community and am looking very much forward do being a member of this community. I've dabbled in MMO games since my early years, started on EQ, moved to WoW. I played in Vanilla but I am not the same player I was back then. I'm trying to decide what to play. I play on retail now and I just know that the classes are not at all comparable to how they are now to how they are going to be here. Looking for maybe some breakdowns of the classes/specs. If anyone has a link that would be great. I wasn't able to locate one here. For example I understand that Druids(what I play on retail) are relegated to healing in PVE. Who is the best tank? PvP and PvE Best DPS? Range, Melee, PVP and PVE. Healers? Sounds like Paladins and Priest rule vanilla as far as healers. Druids being more of a utility healer and Shamans kind of in the middle? Sorry if this was already answered, if someone has a link that would be great. Thank you and I look forward to becoming a part of this community.

Do quests at max level give gold?

Another good option is to spend the time now before we get these servers is to play on another private server and feel out the classes you're thinking about.

How big of a pain is this? Is it something that would really turn someone away from enjoying the Lock? Or are there tricks that make it a fast process?

Really seems like a better route for this community to embrace the new blood that will start on the fresh server. These communities require fresh blood or they will slowly dwindle to nothing. As a new player my plan is to roll on the copy of Nost and feel out the classes I'm looking at and hopefully settle on a class before the fresh PvP server opens.
