It may eventually happen. Basically the server will go to about 900 people online average and it will be a breaking point. The logistics of it is the biggest issue. An already strained GM team, who gets to keep their character / guild names, and the complaints from the people who don't get priority is the most overwhelming issues at hand. No matter the outcome, this much is for sure: Everyone will bitch, nobody will be happy, and nobody will be grateful.

As time goes on, more people will get banned for buying gold. It may take 6 more months, but eventually most the gold buyers will be banned.

Back to retail you go.

If you get scammed out of an item its your own fault. The screenshot and evidence should result in a ban for the scammer. There was 2 or 3 cases of this on Old Nost and the offender was disciplined. The only case it can really happen is during enchanting or lockbox picking. If someone with an MC / AQ enchanting pattern wants to get banned by stealing 50g in mats, I'll donate those just to get the satisfaction for causing their account to be closed. As for lockbox picking, have a guild rogue open them. Only other way you'll need items restored is as result of hacking. Use 2FA.

I think the better solution would be for people to stop buying gold. It would be two-fold. 1.) You wouldn't have people selling it. Believe it or not, its legal to sell dogshit. But because nobody buys it, nobody sells its. 2.) The ban appeal forum would be dead. We wouldn't have 250 posts every 2 months that says "Why'd I get banned... I've NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER bought gold before."

Alex's circumstances show he is the scum of the Earth. He took other people's money and ran with it. If any of those people chose to press charges he could easily be arrested for fraud, deception, and theft. Abuse what how? Be the first to complete the entire Shifting Sands questline? Sure. Who doesn't? But abuse or exploit what? And I don't blame ANYONE for being disappointed about the war effort. There are some expectations that it could takes several several months, possibly a year to complete this on the player's parts alone. That isn't by any means Blizzlike. NOPE's reputation and attitude may have changed since I left this realm. But when I was here, they were a quiet guild and choosy on their members. OK? Who isn't. Again, they may have changed since December when I went to Elysium. If so, so be it. But what they did and Alex did are two different things.

OK so I'll dumb this down for you. If I really cared about the server, like so many people here who want to hate on NOPE do... I'd say "wow, NOPE really cares, they kicked in 2000 bucks... I could do without my pizza and 2 liter of Coke, I'll just kick in 10 bucks and get pizza next week... That way if something falls through, there is a pillow for the server to fall on and all the eggs aren't in one basket" *opens wallet, deposits 10 dollars into paypal* *Shenna logs on and finds funds in the PayPal* "Oh my, I'll put this toward the server" Make sense yet? Theres an option other than case #1 in that... People could've (should've) donated via PayPal. But instead, all the eggs were in one basket. Now all the eggs are on the ground broken.

You're saying that nobody donated anything? NOPE donated and everyone else washed their hands of it?

Fair enough. Back to my original point. Why was NOPE's donation of 2000 dollars all that the server was riding on? There are 10 other well known guilds, and 12000 regulars on the server. You're telling me of all these people, 100 people didn't toss in 10 bucks each? Only point I'm trying to make is that NOPE was paying your fare. You aren't mad at anything besides "your" server being down. Your frustration will be forgotten moments after it returns.

All you people raging because of NOPE. Get over it. When they got server firsts, all of you wanted to be them. When you saw their speed clears, all of you wanted to be with them. When you saw the feats they accomplished, all of you wanted to be part of it. And now that they've said enough to all the commotion, broken promises, the entire situation as a whole, the only thing you cant say is that you disagree. You are all upset only because they took their donation to keep the server going through the summer and left. Simple solution is to get out your own wallets and put money in the coffer. If you all donated 25 cents, there would be enough to keep the server going through this time next year. But nobody wants to open their own wallet up and fund it either. You'd all just sit here and complain and not find your own solution. How typical.

Obviously you don't understand how business in general works. 1.) I'm astounded that OVH will even host the servers given the legality of the project. 2.) They only did what any business would do. If you ran a business and someone gave you 2000 dollars, and then took it out from under you, what would you do? Keep providing said service until they give you the appropriate compensation? All while hoping and praying they pay you... sometime soon? or would you cut the cord and say "you want it? come pay"? Yeah I'm pretty sure they did what any provider would do. I feel that given the amount of money involved, we're lucky they didn't yank all 4 servers down. That to me says they had some faith in the project to get them funded rather soon. And fraud? Yeah, basically its not too far off. In most countries knowingly bouncing a check or purposely charging back a transaction is a criminal offense listed in the fraud category. I haven't seen any allegations by OVH for this. But if you want to get technical... They've done this. That is why there is a thread about it...

Ask NOPE for help, I bet they have a lot of stuff farmed up and saved.
