Scar Beast is shadow. You'll want nature yes though for Entangling Roots + Sleep. Respeccing pets is pretty damn cheap.

I usually reserve Rapid Fire for hunter vs hunter fights. Nothing assures kill like overkill with massive DAKKA. But yes, trapping/fearing pet works as an aside as well, also preferring viper sting or scorpid sting on hunter, depending how I feel.
