Why are retail players so angry about this server?
Dralek replied to Crowley's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
LFG made people stay in the main city without needing to travel around the world to get to the instance, avoiding interaction with enemy players, mobs, etc. A portion of the game (the entire world actually) was lost because of this. -
Why are retail players so angry about this server?
Dralek replied to Crowley's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Retail players would rather blame private servers and the people who play them, rather than blame blizzard. Truth is blizzard has ignored a lot of the issues that have been there for years which has made people quit their game. The legacy server discussion has been around for years now, maybe prior to cata, but defintly established from there after. The lack of an open world interaction between players, the lack of world pvp (in part due to flying mounts), the queing systems for dungeons and raids, the lack of a community, the lack of an economy, the free items for no effort, all problems that didn't exist in vanilla, were never corrected by blizzard. Thus why there are people that wish to play vanilla instead of retail, aside from the nostalgic factor, it was a time when the game felt like a world of warcraft. -
If nostalrius manages to attract the amount of players it did before (which the number was still growing by the time it shut down), the 3 servers will be packed by february. Also, if we manage to get he whole vanilla population from other servers (which is higly possible), we may end up with a 4th server, or even a 5th at some point. A lot of youtubers have done a great job in spreading the word on nostalrius revival, and I think we need to keep promoting the server. Nostalrius already has the reputation to do be appealing to a lot of people.

Is it too late to start on the old PvP Server?
Dralek replied to Edwin Van Queef's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Well the nost pvp is going to be packed by new characters too given that it will be released first, so whether you roll nost or fresh based on the questing experience, there might be no diference. From personal experience, the drag is lvl 1 to 10 in which you are cornered in your starting zone, but you simply group up and do your quests. After that the lvl 10 zones are much bigger. Consider how big barrens is, and how many different spots to kill the quest objectives you have. Honestly, while it is obviously going to be a little slower than in a dead server, the key is grouping up for quest, which is actually the system that they had in mind when they created the game. As for getting ganked, you will get ganked in both pvp realms. Sure in the fresh pvp you will get ganked more often by people of your similar level which you can fight back. And in the old nost you will get ganked often by people of your similar level, given that there will also be a lot of people questing, along with a few bored 60's who usually camp and invade newby spots like lakeshire, menethil harbor, etc. Trust me, there are a lot of bored 60 pvpers with nothing to do, happened to me in original nost. So...ganking too will occur in both server. Truth is, that both your concerns will happen in both realms. As for progression, what's been said is rather true. It is highly possible to gear up fast is you have a good guild that runs 5-mans often, and takes new players and alts into MC/ZG runs. You can probably gear from greens to blue/epics in 2 or 3 months, though not every raid you attend will have loot for you, which is still pretty fast. Now... if you don't get a good progressive guild, and you have to go with a guild with a bad system or solely through pugs, it can take a few more months. The advantage of old nost pvp is clear however, the economy: it will be much easier to get some of the crafted items, at a lower prices (because there are more available). So if you focus on making gold while you level (or have a 60 benefactor) you can speed up your gearing by buying the crafted items. As for the fresh, you will gear slowly, but everyone else will be on the same gear progression as you. -
Fresh server last makes absolutely no sense
Dralek replied to aristotheron's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Yes you are a more patient person, which I think is a good trait to have in life. Others are not patient and would be pleased with an announcement at. If some wish to try to communicate to the staff about their concerns, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to do so. Don't get me wrong, I get that some are just crying rivers of tears about it, or being openly rude and childish towards the staff for no reason, and its annoying everyone else. -

I get that you are trying to dismiss my post with a one liner question without any real answer to what I ask. Its easier if you just respond me. I'm not here to argue, just trying to have a discussion on the subject if you are willing. No need to get offended just because I have a different view and don't exactly agree with your opinion on what would be best. It is an arrogant attitude to claim something for yourself that belongs to a larger group of people. People can feel dissapointed, just as you can feel annoyed by them. Its not that they are ungrateful to the staff, but are merely trying to have a talk about the subject. Dismissing them because you don't like it, is absurd. -

Dralek replied to aristotheron's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
The same analogy can be made of the old nost pvp server if the table was turned, so here is no point in doing the analogy in the first place. People are dissapointed it wasn't announced because they are lookign foward to play it, as simple as that is, and are trying to talk to the staff about it. Nothing wrong in doing that. It might be trivial to you and others, seems important to some. -
Fresh server last makes absolutely no sense
Dralek replied to aristotheron's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
The subject of what would be best for the community and server in general is a matter of opinion, and that is why it is debatable. A lot of the people that are former nost players (like myself) do lean towards the possibility of playing the fresh pvp rather than the revived nost. A lot of people that contributed to promote the revival server in the past few months are both old nost players that consider playing fresh, new people that never played nost, and old nost players which will return to their characters. So regenerating the community isn't based on realm choice. So everyone in the community has a hand in helping revive the project, trying to take the title away as belonging to only those that seem to be headed to the old nost pvp, is unreasonably arrogant. -

I didn't say it should be released first. I said that the problem is that it hasn't been announced. The source of the complaints isn't that the old nost server is coming first, because that was intended from the start and everyone knows that. The reason why some are dissapointed is that: 1) Fresh server date was NOT announced 2) PVE server release date was changed (was supposed to be the last? not really sure) -
Fresh server last makes absolutely no sense
Dralek replied to aristotheron's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Whether it is the most effective solution is a matter of debate, which is the reason so many topics threads about the issue have spawned. I certainly agree most are whine posts to try to coerce the staff into launching the fresh server earlier, but among them some of us are trying to have an objective discussion regarding the matter. Please respect that -

Dralek replied to aristotheron's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
But then, that would mean you are trying to direct people to play something that is not their first choice, for the sake of those who choose to play old nost pvp. Its giving priority to the need of others while ignoring the rest. I think its reasonable that a few players that are looking foward to play the fresh pvp feel dissapointed it hasn't even been announced, and is expected to be released at a much later date. -
Why fresh server should release at the same date
Dralek replied to Jambi's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Granted, not everyone will vote, but it is expected most people that see a poll regarding something they like, will do it. It is not a case to dissmis something entirely. Its just a sample view, nothing more (thats why I merely mentioned the poll, I didn't try to use it as prime evidence). -

The pop thing is sort of the important issue, but yes, there are a lot of factors to consider. I really don't think its that big of an issue, because despite having less raids, people still have things that they must do. A good example would be farming gold, working on professions, reputation grinds, etc. Sure it is much more fun to have raids, but during the MC progression most will also be investing their time in getting the mount money, and the exalted reps, so when BWL and eventually AQ are released their characters are "complete". There is also the factor of PvP. The fresh realm will attract the "new" pvpers, given that they won't have to face people that our-gear them, or the more established premades. I mean if someone has the grand desires of reaching high ranks, it would be far easier to do it in the fresh realm, where the competition is much more balanced gear-wise. And in nost the pvp community was pretty high. It is safe to assume that the large majority of pvpers will focus on the fresh realm. --- Yes the DDOS did help bring down K1 faster than it did, but that is expected to happen in servers. Nostalrius also suffered some DDOS attack (although not as great). Then there were population splits on some issues (like the release of updated pvp items). While it does present a case for reasons for people to stop playing, it is expected given it is a private server. It still showed the inability for K1 to restore itself, by having K2 suck most of the player base that kept coming to the server. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the old pvp server, and I will most likely still play my character (at least in the beginning). But I will defintly play both realms during the first few months, and see how it goes. -

Yes, the PVE realm can grow because of the special quality it provides. I have no doubts about that. In fact since its release, it only grew. And considering it is still pretty new (MC progression) it also has the factor of being rather "fresh". I agree the poll has many flaws, and must be taken with skepticism regarding its results, as most polls do. But it is still reasonable to assume it provides a tiny sample view of what the majority wants. I don't agree people don't vote in it. Most prolly do (takes 2 seconds to do it). And most of the community is following the conversations so its fair to assume most have seen it. But again, I concede that it is not something to use as prime evidence, I just don't think it can be dismissed altogether. -

I don't disagree with that. But it is a matter of perspective. K2 still got the higher influx of new players slowly joining, and K1's population began to dwindle in the long term. The first few weeks after K2's release both realms were pretty even. If the fresh pvp server releases in, lets say, January, then the old pvp server might have the higher population in the short term. But in the long term, once the fresh pvp is established it will act as a filter for new players joining the server, just like it happened with K1/K2. The problem is that without the influx of new players, the server becomes stagnant. A lot of people simply stop playing or take breaks because of real life commitments, and without a sufficient amount of players joining to replace them, the population will slowly fade. We also need to account for the fact that K2 was a "surprise" realm created to handle the high influx of nost players. In contrast, the fresh pvp realm was announced way before the actual launch so a lot of players are already saving themselves for the fresh server, and while they might create characters in old pvp realm, they already plan to put their efforts into the fresh realm. Honestly, I hope that all 3 realms get an even spread, but given that this things can be predicted (which in turn compells players to focus on the fresh realm to avoid facing this problems in the long term), it is more likely that the fresh realm will absorb the highest amount of people. -
Why fresh server should release at the same date
Dralek replied to Jambi's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Thats unlikely. History points out that the fresher servers usually end up getting a huge chunk of the population, and will grow at the expense of the old more established server. The first example comes from nost itself, when it released the PVE realm which slowly grew, eventually reching a peak of 4k online. And this is considering that PVE realms are really not as popular in the private server community as the pvp ones, and still managed to absorb a huge layer of players that were looking for a more even start. If it had been a pvp realm it might have taken more people. The second example comes from Kronos I and Kronos II. After the shutdown everyone took refuge in kronos I, and a few weeks later when kronos II was released, a huge chunk of the population (both from nostalrius and previous kronos players) went there. Following this pattern it is likely that the fresh server will absorb a huge amount of the existent playerbase, and slowly become the favourite for the new comers. Someone joining the server in February will probably go to the fresh server (MC progression) instead of the old pvp server (AQ progression). This deminishes the amount of monthly new characters joining the old pvp server. And this are facts of things that happened in known servers, not speculation or inventions. This is why the hype is for the fresh pvp server. A lot of current members dismiss the poll that showed a lot more people interested in joining the fresh pvp server rather thaqn the old one, and I'm not sure why. Sure it does not take into account the whole possible community, but it shows a sample of those who bothered to vote. Hopefully, the 3 servers will get a rather even population spread, which seems to be the staff's plan. It is unlikely this will happen, because eventually the new comers starting in January, will most likely head for the fresh one. But lets hope for the best! -
Why fresh server should release at the same date
Dralek replied to Jambi's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
When nost fell apart, I went to K1 in the first few days. A lot of players from nost joined there. Then K2 opened, and almost everyone went there. Population in K1 began to deplete quite fast after that. Honestly I agree a 100% with your posts. I think the best thing would have been to just open 2 or 3 fresh realms, forget about the old chars, and try to attract the entire vanilla population given that Nostalrius had the name and renown in the private server world. Its highly likely that every other vanilla server would loose most of their player base to nost. To be fair, my 60 in nost was a mix of pre-raid BiS blues and epics, nothing fancy, so I can understand why someone with T2/PvP epic gear would rather return to their previous char. To me is just the fact that I already considered my character gone, and I favour a high pop server rather than an old one. But well, thats just my opinion, I'm happy nost is returning -
Why fresh server should release at the same date
Dralek replied to Jambi's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
Yeah I rather agree with Faith here. I had a lvl 60 in nost, but I will most likely play the fresh pvp because it seems more likely to have a higher population. I really don't care about my previous character. I mean, the reason that everyone is betting on fresh server to have the higher pop numbers, was because of the whole Kronos/Kronos II debacle, in which everyone new went intro Kronos II. Despite the nost pvp server being released before, I don't really see why any new player without an existing character would play it considering a fresh server is supposed to open a few weeks later.
