What is wrong with multiboxing?
Tanked replied to Grizlock's topic in General Discussion & Suggestions
I have multiboxed on retail and some private servers for about 8 years now and never once been tempted to sell gold or characters. In fact I never had enough extra gold to sell if I wanted to. I would be bettering my own characters or help funding new alts. Now I have had people try to buy characters from me, more than once in the past. And I just straight up tell them I am not interested. I have invested all the time and effort into my toons, why would I want to get rid of them? People that multibox do not do it to make some sort of living from it, they do it because they enjoy it and its a new twist on an older game and presents new challenges. Your statement is just silly lol. -
I will give you an example that should help you. Say you have a lvl 30 Alliance with gold and items you want to transfer to a lvl 1 Horde. On your low level alt, do a little bit of questing and sell your trash as well so you have some kind of money, copper, a few silver etc. Take both to the neutral auction house (booty bay is fairly convenient) Create auctions with the higher level Alliance toon with the items you want to send, make it a 1 copper bid and 1 copper buyout, then purchase with the low level Horde Create an auction with the low level with something insignificant, like a piece of food or something and place it for the buyout of the amount of money you want from your higher level Alliance toon. Then buy it out with the Alliance toon and check your mail with the low level Horde. You shouldn't have any problems this way that I know of. Now if your higher level alliance and your new horde alt are on the same account than this will not work as you cannot buyout an auction from a characters you posted it with from the same account. The best bet would be to have the Horde alt on the second account and do what I mentioned above.

What is wrong with multiboxing?

Even if I were being biased, it would not determine of my statements were true or false. The statements themself would determine that. Yes, it is actually relevant. This is where my argument is actually for multiboxing not being allowed. As even with the small population increase, it would be a few people taking advantage of playing multiple accounts without increasing the funding for the servers. If there were a cash shop, however, then someone like myself could easily donate for 5 characters for whatever cosmetic thing to help support the increase in characters I used. Your definition of significant must be skewed, as the server I am refering to that allows it, has a population cap of 12,000, and with all of the people that multiboxed regularly (online daily) it amounted to say an average of 20-30 characters. I am not sure if you are familiar with how to do math but say at the worst of 40 characters that would be 0.33% recurring. Not even 1% of the population. From my personal experience, if it is allowed in pvp or world pvp, yes some boxers can be pricks and nuke someone. I personally would never attack a lone person when I was out questing unless they were just completely dumb and wouldn't stop trying to attack me. I would usually just CC them or heal whichever toon they were attacking and they would soon give up and leave. Regardless.... Any person playing 1 character that thinks they will engage 5 characters and win, well, they are not very bright, whether the 5 are controlled by separate people or by 1 person. Either way this could be addressed as Feenix did it and not allow PVP. I personally wouldn't mind leaving my other 4 toons to stand there while I fought the guy attacking me if it were necessary. I would like to know where you get your information from. Was there a survey or some statistics that show this information? Again you obviously did not read what I had posted about this. 5 characters still have to pay for mounts skills, professions, etc etc. Even though they can make more money questing (this is only because the money is controlled by one person, it's obviously the same amount as five individual players) they are still limited in other ways, as in I can't go farm in five different ways at one time, the best case would be killing a beast mob, skinning it, go over to mine a vein of ore with my miner and then maybe find an herb with my herbalist somewhere close as well. WOOHOO, ya that's not going to tilt the tides for anyone. The only real advantage loot-wise would be 5 man dungeons with highly sought after items and being able to control all the loot, but it is still limited to the number of dungeons you can run in an hour. And I don't know about your get rich fantasies, but in reality it is hard enough just running the dungeons trying to gear five characters, much less just assuming I would be some chinese multiboxing farmer that has time for that, (no offense to the chinese, but you know what I meant) Speaking of that also, don't you think if it was so lucrative to multiboxing that gold farmers would be doing that? (just a thought) I would like to address both of these statements together. Say I am in Redridge questing and a couple guys need the elite quests but can't find a group. I replace my toons in the party with whatever roles those people can fill, this way I am helping people that couldn't get a whole group together. Do I have to do this? No, but I like to use my own advantages that I do have, to help others. Sure I can help with one character, but I would still be waiting just like them to fill out the group. So I guess I couldn't say it would be something gamechanging to help the community as a whole, but helpful to people that happen to be in areas I was at, friends, guild members, etc. I have even had people that knew who I was ask me for help with something out of the blue and if I had the time I would gladly help them out. Regardless of my opinion, I have given examples and explanations for everything I have stated. So if you have anything legit to say that proves me wrong, I would love to hear it and actually welcome it. I do not really post this stuff to create some sort of argument, or even to defend multiboxing. But I do like to correct people that make assumptions about what they are actually talking about but have no clue since they have no actual experience with it, especially not in the long term. And well, my own personal playstayle when I am playing somewhere that it is allowed is to be helpful, rather than to try and be a jerk to people. This is a community after all and people remember their interactions with you and it can have consequence in a good or bad way down the line. A few multiboxers in the past have given the playstyle a bad name as a whole, but that's just like being a racist because someone of one race did you wrong, or have hate towards people from a certain country or religion etc by judging them all by the actions of one or a few. Anyways. I hope you can maybe understand a bit better from what I have explained than to make assumptions and have a bad taste in your mouth about it. Have a good day all :) -

Actually this is incorrect. Multiboxing software does not automate anything for you. For example yes it does forward key presses to other clients, but you have to press a key for it to do that. If I were boxing and press nothing (no input) then there would be no action (no output) Botting is a program using scripting that automates things where you do not even have to touch your computer in order for it to perform actions. -

There are actually alot of false statements in this thread. The main reason it is not allowed here is purely that it is a free server with no cash shop that relies on donations. There would not be some huge explosion of the amount of people if it was allowed. I know this as a fact because another private server which is wotlk allows it, even has a dedicated forums section for multiboxers and still all of the active multiboxers barely add up to a drop in the bucket as far as the active population size. Less than 1% the last time I played there and went over the figures. Can it cause issues in pvp? yes for large scale multiboxers vs uncoordinated groups. The only advantage is coordination, the big disadvantage is mobility. The economy.... multiboxers can in no way ruin the economy as for example: Say I was multiboxing a team of 5 characters for dungeons, I would still have to gear 5 characters, pay for repairs and consumables for 5 characters, buy mounts, level professions etc as well. The only slight advantage here is more control over the loot, which I have only really seen in groups of friends or guilds that actually look to improve whoevers' gear would benefit from an upgrade the most. To think that you would just simply make 5 times the gold and be super rich controlling the economy is some weird dream of someone that has no experience of it whatsoever. Even though I am an avid multiboxer (on retail in the past, and private servers that allow it) I do think the people that box 20-40 toons are quite a bit extreme. But 2-5 characters is not bad whatsoever. I did enjoy being more self sufficient and able to help others as well on elite quests or someone that needed a certain dungeon. It really never was about the PVP for me. In fact my only serious PVP multibox team was a team of all healers, for large scale BGs and world PVP to support others. Either way, I don't see discussions like this influencing the staffs decision on it. But if they did decide to have a change of heart, I would gladly donate on a regular basis, just to help support the server. -
I thought about this as well. I used to play on a very active wotlk server and multiboxed there for years, mainly for PVE reasons and really wanted to do it in vanilla as it allows you to be much more self sufficient. The server I am speaking of (won't mention the name) was fine and a small amount of people multibox on the regular. The ONLY negative I saw come from it, other than a some whiny people that thought they could 1 vs 5 and got mad that they lost, were the extreme boxers the very few that decided to create 20+ toons and wreak havoc. I think that any server that would allow at least up to five accounts would be great and still have the ability to socialize and be with a community instead of having to run your own server to do it and have no community.

A Frank Address And Statement on Recent Events and Revelations
Tanked replied to Shenna's topic in Official Information
The thing is, it sounds like a staff member having to explain alot of drama and then lots of drama to follow. I don't want to read it or I would have lol. I trust the staff will do whatever and I trust that I will keep playing vanilla wow. :) -
A Frank Address And Statement on Recent Events and Revelations
Tanked replied to Shenna's topic in Official Information
All I saw here was a wall of text about some drama and then 10 pages of drama to follow. All I can say is Elysium staff keep up the good work and I love playing on this server. Whatever all of this was about I could care less as long as I get to play :) -
I got disconnected in the middle of tanking a dungeon last night, well, roughly 8+ hours ago, had only been able to get stuck at connected over and over. and now this morning it finally loaded the character list (took a while) and when I have just went to enter the game my load screen shows the progress bar done but still just hanging on the load screen. I don't see any response from the staff in regards to Darrowshire whatsoever. Kind of strange. Also noticed some new bugs that were not present on nost as well, so I am guessing we are on the new core which seems to have different bugs? I do not think that is related though.

Lowbie night elves swarming Eastern kingdoms

The funny thing is his first picture, he is a dwarf in westfall..... -
Actually this zone has these types of bots all the time. I took about 2 hours one day and just happened to catch Jakira on Discord and got the 11 bots I reported booted. But within the next 2 days I had another toon in this starting zone and more were back. They are always gnome mages with random letters in the name. I was told to report them by name each time. Honestly, if I was a GM, I would pop into this zone occasionally and check on the situation. Especially since it's a confirmed hotspot. No telling where else they go after this zone when they are not caught....

[Addon] pfUI - An ElvUI inspired Addon entirely written from scratch
Tanked replied to shagu's topic in UI, AddOns & Macros
Hey Shagu, I just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work. I was never big into customizing my UI in the past and just using a few different addons. But since I found this project I will never go back to anything else. It is very clean, I use the recommended addons with it and things made to integrate with it like the Cleanup etc. Now I know it has been asked here and you are very busy with work etc. But I just wanted to let you know the integration of KTM etc, would be a great addition. So many people use it and it well, KTM by itself doesn't look anywhere near as good as your pfUI. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb lol. So ya thanks again and just wanted to let you know there is a need for this integration when you have the time and ability to do so. Keep up the excellent work! -
Hey guys, I just wanted to make a quick post in regards to fixing your addon settings since the Elysium servers name change yesterday. You will notice that the server you play on may no longer named be named the same thing. You may also notice if you logged in unaware of this change that your addons seem to be reset. In this example I will use Nostalrius PVE (old name) and Darrowshire (New Name) to explain how to fix it. (You will use your specific server name when this is referred below. Make sure the spelling and capitalization is correct) Steps to fix this issue and reclaim your old settings: 1: Make sure your game client is closed and navigate to your World of Warcraft folder where the Elysium client is located. (this will depend on where you have it installed or located on your hard drive.) 2: Once we are at the World of Warcraft folder, navigate inside the WTF folder, then Account. Go inside your account folder and here is where folders will be located for Servers on Elysium. 3: Inside the Nostalrius PVE folder, select everything and copy the contents 4: Go back to the Account folder and into the Darrowshire folder (if there is not a Darrowshire folder, you will need to create one with the exact spelling/capitalization) 5: If there is anything existing in the folder, go ahead and delete it first to avoid any errors. 6: Now we simply Paste everything we had copied from Nostalrius PVE into the Darrowshire folder That is all there is to it! You can now start your game back up and notice all of your addons are set how they were prior to the namechange. *If you like to be tidy like myself, after pasting everything into the Darrowshire folder, you can completely delete the Nostalrius PVE folder. UPDATE: Alternatively to the above method, you could rename the old realm folder to the new realm name. In this case if you have logged in and it has generated a new folder, delete the new folder before renaming the old one. I hope this helps anyone that may have been blindsided by the servers namechange and not know how to fix the addons settings without having to redo everything :)

[HOW-TO] Fix your Addons after Server Name Change
Tanked replied to Tanked's topic in Help & Support
You sure could, but most people that will view this will most likely have already logged in once, hence it auto generating a fresh folder with the new name and default addon settings., So in that case it is easier to move or copy the old correct settings to the new named folder. But yes again, if you have not logged in yet, it would be easier just to rename the realm folders as Hudson suggested. I have edited the original post to include this. -
Another user had posted this somewhere, I do apologize as I cannot find where I found the link to give credit. But this is hilarious. http://www.captiongenerator.com/308292/Nost-sends-word

Reporting Bug (as bug tracker is giving 500 internal server error)
Tanked posted a topic in Help & Support
Title Battle Shout not generating any threat whatsoever Bugged behavior Battle Shout is not generating any rage whatsoever when using it to buff. Correct behavior Battle Shout should generate 55 threat per person when buffed with it, split evenly between each mob you are in combat with. For example if a warrior initiates combat with three mobs and uses Battle Shout and it buffs all five party members, it should generate 5x55 threat (275) divided among the three mobs, so 275/3 = 91.6 (not sure if it rounds up) threat per mob. This is how it functioned prior to patch 2.0.1 and on this server it is currently not generating any threat whatsoever. Threat generation Before Patch 2.0.1, Battle Shout generated 55 threat for every party member who received the buff. This made it better than Demoralizing Shout for gathering groups of mobs for AoE. It was also used frequently in Phase 1 of the Nefarian fight in BWL. The threat generated is not restricted by range (unlike Demoralizing Shout), and is divided among all the mobs that have the warrior on their hate list. Sources http://vanilla-wow.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Shout NOTE: I am only posting this here temporarily as I am not able to add it to the bug tracker, due to a 500 internal server error when trying to add the report. This is actually a pretty important issue for warriors, as it one of thier select few AOE threat abilities. -
Reporting Bug (as bug tracker is giving 500 internal server error)
Tanked replied to Tanked's topic in Help & Support
That is exactly what I said it was supposed to do. You were refferring before to some other post saying it generated "around 50 threat" I am not sure why you are trying to argue with me, I would think if you were genuinely concerned, you would be trying to help address the issue and get the bug fixed instead of argue. The fact is, IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY HERE, IT GENERATES 0 THREAT, THAT IS THE BUG! -
I am having an in game mail issue as well. Sent a BOE item from one of my characters to another to list on AH, mail arrives at that character, and the title of the mail is the item name, but guess what? no item, no attachment. been waiting for an in game ticket for 3 hours now, with it saying it will be serviced soon, yet i was talking to a friend who made a ticket about something half an hour into my wait and his was answered and resolved in less than a minute. Why will these GMs not at least let you know they are trying to figure it out? I know they are under a huge load of work, but ignoring is worse than telling some they are not sure what happened and to wait.
