as a shaman, play whatever spec you want in pvp. they are all viable. most good specs are typically some sort of hybrid as opposed to a fully loaded tree.

props to you for trying something different. If your having fun doing it, don't stop!

I will politely disagree and leave it at that.

I thought I would start this thread up to help inform you shamans out there about which totems to use when while grouping for instances. I have my theories of which totem sets are best to keep down in certain group make ups but I'm sure there will be a discussion to follow that goes against what I'm about to list and thus why I wanted to start this thread. So here we go.... Water totem - I ALWAYS drop mana spring. The tiny hot from healing stream just isn't worth it. You have chain heal to heal your melee dps taking any sort of aoe damage. There are some instances where your poison cleansing and disease cleansing totem are useful. Fire - There are no totems that are worth keeping up full time (with one exception that I'll cover later under air). Searing totem on a boss encounter can push a little extra damage if needed (although usually not even worth doing). Fire nova can help when AOE is needed. There are a couple bosses with frost damage that you could argue the use of the frost resist totem. Earth - I ALWAYS drop strength of earth. Tremor is required on certain encounters that have fear/charm/sleep. Earthbind can be a saver to allow you/your tank to kite in an emergency situation. Air - I'm sure this is where arguments will come into play because you have two very good air totems. This is what I personally do: If there is a hunter and no other melee in the group besides the tank, I drop grace of air and give the tank flametongue totem. All other instances, I drop windfury. Grounding totem is used on occasion to prevent such spells as a silence. Keep in mind that this isn't a guide for totems to use while raiding. There are other totems in your arsenal that are situational and really help benefit the group your in while raiding.

suhail...apparently you just skim read...what a noob!

Look through the forums below....this has been discussed at length already

Who buys gear on the ah before level 60? :P Leveling isn't that hard lol
-
Until you get full gear from AQ, yes elemental is worthless in a raid group. However, a fully decked out elemental shaman with tier 2.5 gear and beyond has comparable dps to a lock or mage. I did say comparable though and not better....

As I level (leveling as enhance), I like to keep a set of gear for healing instances as it is much easier to get into a group when you can say that you can heal or dps. Healing gear consists of int, stam and spirit for the most part as +healing items aren't too common until after level 50. Thats ok though because you don't need much more than a big mana pool to heal all of the instances before blackrock depths. Therefore, int is your main priority on gear. The first thing you need to do is set up your action bars to have 4 heals bound: your highest rank lesser healing wave, your highest rank healing wave, rank 1 or 2 healing wave and rank 3 or 4 healing wave. At level 40, I was using 2 and 4 to give you an idea of which one you should be using. After tank pulls and cc is taken care of (sheep or sap or w/e) you just start spam healing the tank with rank 1 or 2 healing wave. Based on how fast the tank's hp is falling, you adjust accordingly. I typically will continue the spam of rank 1 or 2 until his hp gets below 67%. Than I'll use a rank 3 or 4 healing wave to catch up and go back to spamming rank 1 or 2. Using your highest rank healing wave is typically used when the tank is below 50% and i need a good high catch up heal. However, this heal should never be cast when the tank gets below 25%. That is when you need to get a quick catch up heal by using your lesser healing wave. I will typically cast lesser healing wave right into a max rank healing wave. This will get the tank from 25% or less all the wave back up to 75% or more. That is tank healing basically in a nutshell. For other raid members, using your rank 3/4 heal is typically used when they get below 67% or you got the tank to max health and have the time to top everyone off. There is obviously more to it than just this outline but it will get you started. Other basic items to remember about being a shaman is that you can purge and keeping totems down 100% of the time is extremely valuable.

To my knowledge and from my experience of what I have witnessed....the totem proc does not have any sort of internal cool down. It just is a 20% on each attack to proc.
-
Couldn't agree more dumbatz. The 20 percent increase is nice but not necessary. We do just fine getting around Azeroth

Why do people say use fast atk speed weapons with Flametongue, if the dmg scales to wep speed?
seeth07 replied to Ntbud's topic in Shaman
I don't think that is correct gotmilk. I think it is exactly proportional. The benefit is exactly like you said, tons more survivability from a shield at the cost of slightly less dps. -

Well there is no comparison here from enhancement to resto. You're going to bring the amount of resto shamans that you want. The comparison is do you bring an enhancement shaman or another rogue or a dps warrior. I have never seen a spreadsheet where someone took the time and did the math to see which is truly better (basically comparing a group of 3 rogues and 1 dps warrior (with a resto shaman) vs a group of 2 rogues, 1 dps warrior and 1 enh sham - there is another rogue but for the sake of comparison you have to remove a dps since the resto would be zero dps) I suppose you could add just the "benefited dps" from the extra rogue If it was close, then you could look at the minor fact that the mana tide totem will be helping out 4 other players rather than just the resto shaman who is stuck in the melee group. -

Didn't i use the word "slight" :P Another "slight" benefit is that you can put the enh shaman in the melee group for the totem buff rather than a resto shaman. This gives his mana tide totem a greater benefit by helping other casters rather than wasted on only himself. -

That isn't entirely true gotmilk, there is a slight advantage that enhancement brings which resto doesn't. The key word there is "slight" and thus why I have never seen more than 1 enhancement shaman in any raid group I've gone on (well a non easy mode farm raid run). -

The video was already posted in the forums....if you would have looked, you would have found.... Basically the truth is this, enhancement shamans exist in raid groups. There isn't always one but if there is, there is only one of them. Find the guild willing to take the one enhancement shaman and become that guy. Otherwise, roll a shaman for PVP (in which really all three specs are viable) or roll a shaman for PVE as resto. -
For windfury, look for a 2h weapon in the middle speed range. 3.8 speed provides higher overall damage but since you will be swinging less, you will get less wf procs. A weapon from 2.8 to 3.2 is what you should be aiming for.

Yes indeed, you just need to wait for the next shaman to show up. I sat there for over an hour till one finally did :(

Same issue here. I'm struggling to find the right version of gatherer that works with the database I've inserted
