Does Nost allow Graphical improvement Mods?

Recommended Posts

I asked before and they said no. Even tough its super easy to whitelist ONLY the updated models, which other servers have done. This will draw even more people to the project. I wish the team could reconsider, and have a chat with the makers of the mod in order to come to some kind of conclusion.

http://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?t=1100&f=32    <-- use this guide. It will turn your game into something beatiful you would not have imagined that is possible! Along with the highest possible resolution it looks absolutely gorgeous! I would not have imagine that the game could look that awesome. It is one of the reasons I enjoy the game much more than back then when I had turn graphics down quite a bit from max and still only at 30ish in raids or cities.

Give it a try, turn your resolution to max and you will love it. You won't feel the need for mods.

Same principle as having mods. If this is allowed, then graphical improval mods should aswell.

You are after the same result, which is improved graphics. The only difference is the approach. Does that make sense?

If its "easy" to whitelist; open an educated suggestion in the suggestion board. Maybe with some technical data and good arguments your suggestion, and wish, will come true. As of now the "NO" stands fixed and further discussion leads to nothing.

Not really seeing changing settings through the console is a lot different than adding different patch files. There's a big difference between changing resolution and changing base game files that the anti-cheat actively monitors.

Vanilla server, vanilla models imo.

It's easy if they cooperate with the creator himself, like other servers have done. It's really not a problem.

So what you're saying is even though they're trying to launch 3 servers they should take the time to talk with some random mod creator to add files/models that weren't even available in vanilla to begin with?

I'm not sure you understand the philosophy behind this project.

I never said that, and I don't expect them to prioritize this. I just don't think they should write it off completely, atleast consider it since it might bring in more players in the long run.

Thats why i posted the guide - see my thread "enhance your graphics without mod-BS" . Everything shown in this guide was also possible when vanilla was released in 2004/2005(EU) and does by no means take anything away from classical Warcrafty look that we all love to this date. There was simply no home computer that could handle it.

"I'm not sure you understand the philosophy behind this project."  - you nailed it!

How could you possibly celebrate what they've turned the classic WoW look into. It's garbage!

Maybe if we ask nicely they'll consider a mod that lets us do Karazhan at 60, too.

This will affect the entire community, not relevant to what I'm suggesting.

Hm.  Maybe well down the road after all things stabilize, they might be interested...who knows.  It is a topic that came up ad nauseum on nost forums as well.  That being said, I don't think we have to be worried about pop.

The only argument with substance that has been put up is that it possibly could take time/energy that the dev's could use on something the project itself. The rest is nothing but meaningless bashing and personal opinions on how people should play the game.

You're suggesting allowing modded game files to change models because for some reason you think it'll bring in additional players. That's asinine. If someone is refusing to play here, on a VANILLA server, because there are VANILLA models then those are the kind of people who don't understand what the project is about. You say there are plenty of servers that allow the modded files, if people care that much then they can go play there.

You're the one who has to put up an argument of why something non-Blizzlike should be allowed on a server that aims to be Blizzlike. So far you have offered nothing besides "lol I like the way it looks so the admins should break from their core beliefs to help me make the game look like retail"

It might bring more players, and some players might find the game more enjoyable.What's wrong with that? You don't need to spend a second of your life thinking about it.  It's not affecting anyone else than those who choose to use them. You say they can play on the other servers who allow them, which is true. Or they can play here, if the devs allow it.

Why would that bring in more players? People, dare I say the vast majority, are looking for a server that is Blizz-like and true to original Vanilla, if anything your silly idea would alienate those players.

I think we're done here, you clearly don't get it.

edit: From TOS:

III. Permanent ban

The most serious sanction. This sanction is applied in case of multiple violations of the rules, or after multiple account interruptions, as well as any of the following:

  • COD Scamming;

  • Hacking;

  • Using any means of botting (e.g. a program);

  • Any client modification (libraries, executables, MPQ, etc.);

  • etc

Pottu: Exceptions are not possible due to technical reasons.

Why it would bring more players? I shouldn't really need to answer that. There is a reason these posts appear.

I really don't get why you waste energy on this thread as you have no interest of using this potential patch anyway.

I know the TOS, and people make this threads because they want it to be allowed, isn't that obvious? Exceptions can only be made if people want something to change.
