Engineering for pvp?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I´m planning to roll a gnome warlock on the new pvp server and I´m still not sure about the profession.

Is engineer mandatory/strong recommended for warlocks? It has some cool stuff like bombs and deflectors, but are they really so important in pvp? Many of them are trinkets and have to be equipped before a fight, so the chance to have the right one ready is not so big.

What about Alchemy with all the potions?

Sorry for my dumb questions;  the last time I played on a pvp server was about 10 years ago.

thanks

Engineering is the ideal profession for PvP. Bombs alone are an amazing contribution to your PvP capabilities. As for Alchemy, it is a good profession to get rich by selling potions on the auction house and not needing to buy them yourself. While Alchemy has a lot of amazing PvP potions, you can just buy them on the AH whereas Engineering items all require you to have the profession, so typically Engineering is the best PvP profession. It's not "mandatory" but it definitely gives you powerful advantages if you want to PvP.

Buying potions is a really good point, but where to take the money early on?

I don´t want to do offensive pvp all the time, but with 5000+ players online (and half of the horde being undead rogues) I think i will be forced to it very often.^^

Plus, as engineering seems to be the top pvp profession, everyone will go for mining, so finding one little ore spot will be a pain in the ....

Well hopefully Elysium has better node generation than Nost did. Back in nost I found myself grinding mobs for ore instead of mining because the mining nodes wouldn't spawn, so... that was bad. The downside of it is the money problem you mentioned. You can always level an alt for money to support your main or you can just try to grind up money the normal way. Engineering does have a little bit of a market in engineers selling to other engineers and you could also sell bars of metal.

If you're going engineer you're looking at a endgame of Tailoring+Engineering most likely and depending on an alt or AH for the bars because those professions provide some very powerful gear, especiially for PvE where the tailoring bloodvine set + engineering bloodvine goggles are recommended raid gear.

If you are really not that fond of PvP (but why would you roll with PvP server then) then you may ignore Engineering altogether.

It sure does give you countless benefits in a fight but it is entirely possible to win without engi against most opponents. The warlock is just that broken.

The difference is that while you still can beat your enemy with but your class skills, engi gives you tactical flexibility. You can choose how to control certain target, how to avoid certain danger. The loser in PvP is usually the one who runs out of options first. Engineering just makes your list of options longer. That or just outlasting your opponent. And warlocks excel at outlasting their opponents.

P.S. I'd prefer Spellweaver's Turban over Bloodvine Googles. It benefits your dps more unless you have over 700 spd which is impossible with googles in a head slot to begin with.
