pinkocommy 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) So in light of the fact that it's against the rules to publicly use any language other than English, and there exists global channels for other language users, would it be possible to somehow notify new users of these alternate-language channels' existence upon login? My thinking is that if someone, say who only spoke Chinese, wants to play, and they don't know any English, then when they log in they're basically relegated to playing alone until they eventually randomly bump into another Chinese player who clues them into the existence of the Chinese global channel, or they break the rules a few times in hopes that they won't get banned and will be able to find others to play (who would then presumably clue them in on the other channels). By having some system text at the beginning of each character's login that notifies each player of the names of the alternate language channels it both a) maintains the general channels as being English only, and b) allows those who do not speak any English to quickly find other players who also speak their language via the global channels designated for their language. Shiamorah 20 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 Hey, I like the intention of your idea because it is all about creating a community so people don't have to feel isolated. However, I feel like something like that could be viewed as an annoyance to many players that don't want to see it, but see it every log in. So, I like where you are coming from, but don't think this would be an ideal implementation. There is a lot that you can do, or anyone who wants to create these avenues for players to get together. You could create an Chinese only guild, and you can create custom channels dedicated to this purpose, and advertise them on the international section of the forum. You could also go on Discord for any incoming new players. Possibly create a macro that searches for players with Chinese names too. I don't think creating communities like this is the staff's job, rather the communities job. I think it's a great idea to get people comfortable with the server and have an avenue for talking to people in their native language, but I think that there are many things that an individual like you could do to create this. Here is my suggestion. Do what I said to create an unofficial channel or guild and create a community. If you gain enough of a following, then come back and ask the staff for recognization and possibly a sticky thread on the International Section of the forum. Or something to transform the unofficial community into an official one.
pinkocommy 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) Well you see, I only speak English fluently, as I was raised in the States. This was really more of an abstract problem to me personally, rather than one that affects me directly. I was unaware there even was an international section to the forums. That seems to be the perfect place to advertise these channels. Issue resolved. Thanks for your constructive feed back :) Edited January 3, 2017 by pinkocommy Checked the international forums section
Shiamorah 20 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 The International Section doesn't really apply to that, there are plenty of languages being posted there. The staff does have a lot of work and something like supporting communities like this could be a huge amount of work (i.e. Where does it end? Do we keep adding more and more and more communities, even if they aren't in high demand?) I think it'd be best that if communities were to be made, they should be made unofficial by regular players, and then later recognized by the staff.
pinkocommy 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 Fair. It seems the international section of the forums is the perfect place to advertise these kind of channels and guilds. This resolves the problem. Hopefully all non-english speaking players will be able to recognize "international section" or have translator plugins for their browsers so they can find that section of the forums, haha Thanks again for your constructive responses!
