Instant disconnect and WTF rewriting

Recommended Posts

Hello!

New to this, but I've been having the same problem I have seen a lot by searching the forums today, but never with a functioning solution that I can see. I have, however, noticed something not brought up elsewhere, so I thought I'd share it.

First, the problem:

Try to log in, but it sits on 'Connecting' for about 10 seconds and then says 'Disconnected From Server' not progress to character selection or anything like that.

I have edited my realmlist.wtf, as described, and also Config.wtf, as was suggested in some threads (even adding a particular realm straight in there).

No success.

One thing I did notice is that the Config.wtf is being rewritten back to the original 'SET realmlist "us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com"' every time I start the .exe (before the log in attempt). I tried making Config.wtf Read Only, which does prevent the rewriting, but doesn't get me any further into the login process beyond 'Connecting'.

Any thoughts, or anything else worth trying that I might have missed?

Are you 110% damn sure you also set the realm list correct in the realmlist.wtf file? That error sounds like you didn't.

And are you starting WoW using the wow.exe? Or are you using some kind of launcher?

That's exactly what I thought, but I went back and checked (got it open right now) and it is changed over to Elysium.

I thought it might be something to do with having normal WoW installed on my computer elsewhere, but then I realised I uninstalled it last month...

And you didn't make any silly typo; for example "login" instead of "logon" (I did that myself .. >_<)

I actually think I copied and pasted the text from one of your old posts!

Thankfully, I have just figured out the solution and it was that Notepad++ was opening the file, not standard Notepad, and it wasn't saving. I honestly wasn't aware of the difference, but it seems that using classic old-school Notepad gets the job done!

Cheers!
