Level 1 - 10 mobs

Recommended Posts

The mobs in the Night Elf starting zone(s) are moderately over-tuned. Running around in the open isn't an issue because for the most part you can pick your battles. However, anything regarding a cave or camp usually results in many deaths unless you have a group. Is this the intention? I played vanilla when it was current and I never recall needing a group for anything sub level 10. Was vanilla difficult? Sure but not unfairly difficult. I still remember avoiding encounters depending on my CD's and how much higher level a mob was compared to me but never did I need a group for any of the content leading to Darnassus. Let alone anything outside of elites or dungeons on my trip to 60.

If this is something that is already being worked on by devs, my apologies. I searched around and didn't find anything regarding the strength of mobs early in the game.

Also, I would like to say thanks! Legion was getting stale and this is exactly what I have wanted. My best experiences were in vanilla!

Sounds about right. This isn't retail.

Nothing about it sounds right. I played when it was retail. At no point did I need a group to finish any of the quests in the starting zones.

It´s dynamic spawn rates. It´ll slow down once the populace is going down/get spread out over the whole leveling span.

That was also 12 years ago. Consider the possibility that you may be remembering wrong. If you're trying to go into the Furlbog cave, you'll need to either be slightly over leveled, or need at least one other person. You're going to get multiple mobs on you at once, and you're going to barely have time to rest between fights. I've played this starter area on 3 different servers recently, and they're all the same. Unless they all happen to have gotten it wrong in exactly the same way, thus is what it was intended to be like.

It's not really the spawn rates. Those seem to be okay, if not better than when vanilla was retail. As a rogue, I am getting parried, blocked, dodged and missing around 50% of my swings. I remember clutch misses but it wasn't this bad. It also wasn't this early in the game when misses started to really matter.

Was vanilla harder than what followed? Absolutely, but this is not what made it harder. You had to earn everything but you didn't need a group to pick up relics at level 10.

I remember very clearly, it was not so difficult that I needed to get a group to complete all the quests on the way to Darnassus.. Darkshore is a little hazy but I remember that starting zone vividly. This could be an earlier patch, I can't for the life of me remember what patch WoW was on but I think MC had just opened up. It may have been a little before that but I can't quite recall.

Either the mobs are over-tuned or players are under-tuned. Unless it is elites or the mobs are 2 or 3 levels higher, you shouldn't need a group... especially in the beginning. I thought that maybe it was just rogues due to how often my attacks weren't connecting and that stealth is bugged but, it's everyone (bones everywhere!). I am completely on board with playing vanilla and well aware that this isn't retail but simply stating that this isn't retail and that's why it's as intended, is wrong. If that was the case the devs here wouldn't have forums.
