Account compromised - all my gold is gone

Recommended Posts

Hi there

LIke it says in the title, I believe my account has been compromised. I'm not lacking any gear or items in my bag, but ~70G is gone.

After this happened I immediatly changed my password.

Is there any way of getting my gold back?

Thanks for you time.

Unfortunately there is no way to recover lost items or gold.

Account security is your responsibility and luckily for you only the gold was stolen.

This happened to me as well. I logged in this morning and I only had 99 copper on my character. The last time I played was Sunday morning, and I had just over 2 gold. There was nothing else missing from my bags or bank, so I do not believe I was hacked. This happened on a new account with no affiliation with retail, or any other private servers.

Was there a recent patch or server restart that could have caused this?

I hate to say this, but I had this same conversation with Blizzard years ago when a lot of accounts were getting hacked. I Build and Maintain computers and private servers for multiple freelance designers. I have never had an issue with security on any of my machines, including my gaming machine. I did not believe then, or now, that the user is always to blame when it comes to compromised accounts. Additional security is always a good thing to have, but looking at the Elysium Forums, there seems to be a lot of accounts with only missing gold. If it was my machine that was compromised, I have thousands of dollars worth of files and account information for my clients. A measly 2 gold in WOW seems minuscule compared to what could be taken from my computer. I think if Elysium decides to ignore this issue based on the idea that the user is at fault, is rather ignorant. It should be easy to account for the last login by the user, and compare the log files to determine when and how the account was compromised. Instead of just ignoring the issue, figure out a way to resolve the problem.

They're not ignoring the issue.

You're even saying that there are multiple people getting their accounts "hacked" and either gold, items or both together stolen.

Unfortunately you ignore the fact that they're all volunteers. They provide the server and support in the freetime they actually have.

They can't look through every compromised account and restore every deleted item, gold amount or character.

Simply because they don't have the time to do this and also because they already said multiple times that they won't do it.

If you think your gold is only missing because it "must be" a server issue, then make an ingame ticket and let the staff look through your transaction logs.

They can easily tell if it was an actual hack or if it was you buying something that you just forgot.

Elysium provides players with the tools to protect their accounts, and we also strive to introduce new strong capabilities that prevent account compromise, such as the new Two-Factor authentication. https://elysium-project.org/news/tfa-gold

What we do not provide is infinite staff resources that can investigate all of the compromised accounts where players have not properly protected their accounts. We do try to recover accounts in some cases, but you cannot be guaranteed that we will be able to help if your account is compromised. The best approach is to make sure you are never compromised in the first place.

Therefore, account security is the primary responsibility of the account owners. We advise you to:
- Never use the same account details on Elysium as on any other server
- Use a long, complicated password that contains both letters and numbers, with no identifiable embedded words.
- Execute a password change if your password does not meet the above suggestion (and record it so you don't forget it.)
- Take advantage of our IP lock capability if you have a fixed IP address
- Take advantage of our Two-factor authentication.

Regards,
GM Team.
