General / Trade chat not working...

 Have had the issue since signing up and starting. Read the forums and figured it was due to being under lvl 10. Currently lvl 13 on one char and unable to speak in General or Trade. Say and whispers to players do work. I removed all addons I was running, restarted the game and still no luck. Tried to do the /leave (channel)  /join (channel) and that wouldn't even register. As leaving or joining.

 Is the chat cap lvl 15 or something? Any ideas to try?

You know what try this, go deep into the WTF folder

WTF folder>Account folder>account name folder>server name folder>toon's name folder>

in there, throw away that chat-cache.txt  and also look in Addons.txt document.  See if any of the Blizzard Addons are disabled.  Change it to enabled, unless you know its something you have disabled for the functonality of a separate addon.

 Thanks for the quick response. I tried each step you mentioned and still to no avail. I completely removed all addons from the "addon folder" so nothing except original Blizz stuff is in there. After deleting that chat file and checking the addons.txt , went ahead and deleted the WTF and WDB folders as well. Restarted the game, entered world, and still can't interact with Trade or General. the /leave & /join (channel) still does not work either.

  Any other ideas come to mind or am I probably looking at a total reinstall as the next step? Not a big deal but of course would like to avoid if possible.

Someone else had same post recently.  They said it magically started working again.

leave all channels

try /console reloadui

join channels again.  can't think of any other ways to effect it.

I saw that post as well. I just tried your suggestion to leave all channels and reload and still nothing. Can still speak/yell/whisper others but can't speak in Trade/General. That's with no addons whatsoever.  So weird.  Will try a full reinstall and see if that makes any difference.

 Still no change and not working even with deleting the entire folder and re-unzipping and running the client. Hopefully it eventually starts working at some point but I'm not gonna complain. Vanilla WoW for free, I am grateful!

I hope so too. I just also noticed Guild chat is accessible as well. I can see everything but can't interact in any way.  So say/yell/party/and whispers work. However, trade/general/guild/etc do not.

hm. there's the /resetchat command too. give it a whirl.

 Just tried that as well and get the 'type /help for a list of a few commands' .

 I also did some digging last night and found this, which I tried as well and still no luck. I can't wait to eventually figure it out. Any bets it's from not pressing one button somehow? lol  smh

 On the Wowwiki at the bottom for "Chat Channel Troubleshooting" I tried fix #1 and #6 as well. Both to no avail.

Yeah, pretty old at this point. Gonna try installing on a completely separate computer and see if anything is different.

Actually, that won't work. I'd have to lvl a character to 10 for access anyways. Dooh!

same Problem here .. cant join / leave or interact .. i am in OG right now and cant see the /1  /2 /3 /4  ... deleting wtf folder didn´t solve the problem .. iam "blind" in chat .

that's a little different than Thanum's issue.  try those things i suggested up top in thread.

you know what, I'd be interested in seeing someone's config.wtf file's contents with chat issues.  this chat issue seems to coincide with the DC issue where something is being written to the config file.

The anti-spam system was a little to over zealous with muting players. We've scaled it back a bit and un-muted those affected. Open a GM ticket if you still can see your messages but nobody else can.
