Trueshot aura + wolf howl effective raid dps?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I was doing some napkin math the other day and it seems to me we are doing more than 200dps with these two buffs alone (used a model case of the aura and wolf buffing 4 rogues with 50% crit and 100% percent uptime on Slice and Dice)

Did anyone bother to get some accurate numbers for this?

This means hunter DPS is way more competetive than what recount alone shows and what people think of hunter dps in general.

Can we actually outdps rogues/warrs if we take this into account as we should (adding the damage to the hunter and removing it from the rogues?

Thx, brgds,

Mareckov

I don't think it makes sense to take the damage gained from a buff from the one buffed and attribute it to the one buffing. I think most people are capable of recognizing how useful and how much DPS a buff/debuff will give the group/raid without needing to say "the collective 200 DPS gained from this buff is actually the hunter's DPS."

The hunter wasn't the one doing the DPS, even if the hunter's buffs were responsible for that much DPS being added. The tank doesn't get all the DPS gained from Sunder Armor. The fury warrior doesn't get all the DPS gained from Battle Shout. The warlock doesn't get all the DPS gained from Curse of Elements, Curse of Recklessness, or Curse of Shadows. So on, and so forth.

If you want to make the argument that hunters bring a decent chunk of DPS to their group/raid with their buffs, fine. However, suggesting that all that DPS is actually theirs doesn't make sense to me.

Hi,

That´s a fair point you are making, I would however say sunders and curses are raid wide, take up debuff slots and are thus not comparable to party buffs. Battle shout is fair game and in my opinion should be added to the warrior meaning we can´t outdps a warrior but could outdps a rogue all things considered.

The point I am making here is that effective dps of a hunter put into a melee group is significantly better than what most people actually give it credit for.

I would also be interested in some hard numbers for this if someone is up to the task.

Brgds,

Mareckov

A hunter's sole purpose past MC is for medium DPS, utility, tranq, and trueshot aura.

You'll be hard pressed to find a hunter who, consistently, outperforms rogues/mages.

Here's the 1st of 2 nights (didn't get one shot nef :\) in BWL. Look at the overall damage to all bosses. http://realmplayers.com/RaidStats/RaidOverview.aspx?Raid=56503

I'm probably the worst geared of the hunters, so I'm not a great representation, but even the geared hunters cannot keep up with the rogues. On individual fights, certainly, but the overall damage done to bosses is significantly lower (100% more damage than me, in some of those cases.) Windrush and Holybrownie would be the two examples to really look at and consider their location on the overall meter. They're both at least 6/8 t2, one has ashjre'thul, and both know how to maintain their respective damage cycle/shot rotation.

That isn't to say hunters aren't worth bringing to the raid, however. Hunter damage is satisfactory but the utility brought to a raid (by a competent player who is paying attention) is valuable as well. Tranq is kind of an ultimatum for "you will bring hunters, the end" as well; but aside from that, the two previous reasons are more than enough to validate bringing more than one or two hunters.
