Once upon a time, I used to run a Hunter guide web site. Upon returning to Vanilla a couple months ago (because Legion is awful, etc etc), I started digging through the old content I'd written and tools I'd created back then hoping to find some stuff to fill in the gaps in my memory from when vanilla was current. Lo and behold, I found an old pet training calculator I'd created (long before Wowhead existed, let alone had one of their own). With a little bit of maintenance, I was able to spruce it up and thought I'd reupload it for others to use as well.

Not sure exactly how what you posted differs from what I posted, except that what you linked me still goes up to level 70 and doesn't filter abilities by pet type (meaning you could be calculating in training points for abilities your particular pet can't actually use). I remember that calculator from when the content was current on retail; like mine, it was a branch from a previous project, but left out some desired functionality, which is how I ended up making my own at the time, rather than just use that one.

Thank you for the correction. I didn't keep the original separated and branch for different patches as they came, I just updated the original, so I've been trying to roll back the changes and remembering which pets and abilities came in with TBC has been interesting. You may want to share that correction with whomever is currently hosting what you linked to me as well, though since that one still has TBC information included in it, I'm guess that (unlike mine) it's no longer actively supported.

The original Petopia site doesn't exist anymore.  That's why we have to use web.archive to go back to early 2007 in order to see any Petopia pages at all.

I don't use the calculator I linked to tell me what skills pets can and can't have.  I use the big master skills list (the second link) to do that.  I'm the type of person who prefers to decide what role/function I want my Pet to serve, first, then work backwards from that to determine which pet optimally supports that particular role.  After that, it's just a matter of searching the Pet Type to determine what sort of appearance I want on it (Petopia is/was excellent for this aspect) and then it's just deciding where to go in order to Tame that particular Beast.

The caluclator I linked "works" just fine, so long as you reset it for Level 60 instead of 70 and avoid including the skills that didn't come out until TBC.  Since it's a free form calculator, I can speculatively build in as many ways as I want without the programming getting in the way with "you can't do that" stuff.
