(Alli) Warlock PvP/BG questions

Recommended Posts

New to Elysium, I'm thinking of rolling a lock, but I have some noob questions mostly regarding their role in BGs. Outside of using fear/spell lock/devour/tongues, how do you go about with your damage? I always hear people jokingly mention tab dotting, but is it a warlock's role to blanket the enemy with dots? Are there any specific classes to avoid dotting (ie healer) if there is a mage in your group? I guess I'm just concerned with the idea of dotting everything and preventing any future CC if need be.

Is there any reason to use Curse of Weakness?

I've been watching Goth's videos for examples of lock play, are there any other recommended videos or guides somewhere for lock pvp tips?

As an Alliance player, how useful is lock in BGs? I know Alli locks are rare, but how beneficial is the class in BG compared to say a Mage or a Hunter, Ally side?

Alli locks are fine, and they aren't all that rare in Ely PvP at least. I had several WSGs this weekend where I was one of 4 locks on the team.

Whether you should DOT everyone in sight or not is very dependent on the situation so there's no easy answer. I will say that once you run across priests who just mash their cleanse nonstop, spamming them with r1 corruption can be a very good thing. In most cases burst and focus-firing is a lot better than doing slow predictable damage to multiple targets.

I usually only CoW hunter pets, and only some of the time. Other people may use it more or less though.

Pretty much what the above poster said.

Dot spreading really depends on the situation - in most big fights it's not very good as they will just get dispelled or healed through. You need to help burst targets down. In smaller group fights it depends on the makeups - obviously if you're against a priest its not great but outside of that it can be strong. You need to consider who you are with as well - you don't want to dot everything if there's a mage or two with you.

It can also still be good to tongue even with a decurser. If you are slowing a healer from otherwise spam healing it can lead to a kill. Everytime they remove tongues they are not damaging or healing as well. Its a gcd trade you just have to make the judgement if its beneficial for you or not at the time. Also in pugs especially- most mages won't decurse and druids are a rare class anyway.

Never really saw a use for weakness outside of pets.

The other thing I try to do is drop an instant on warriors before they can charge and where possible siphon on rogues to prevent stealth.

The only guide I've ever really found is this http://pastebin.com/v0f83deX. He has videos as well. Dusch as well.

Curse of weakness was better in TBC I believe. It's basically a shit spell that is useful in very limited situations concerning solo pve.

All you need to know about alliance warlock:

The only way to get better is to play a lot and figure out what is best in certain situations. Watching pvp videos by goth isn't going to help you very much because he has been playing the class on private servers for about 5 years, which ofc is longer than most people who play on elysium.

Just keep in mind horde has an entire race that significantly hinders you and is the most picked against your worst match up (rogue undead). I played a human warlock for years but the fact that your countered by a race and not a class is insufferable.
