PVP rank calculator (For the Horde)

Recommended Posts

I was interested to learn how honor translates into rank gained and how to rank up optimally. Haven't found any good calculators online so decided to create my own one based on this math: http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Honor_system_(pre-2.0_formulas)

The resulting calculator allows to calculate how much honor you need to farm to get to a certain rank and what are the optimal honor rates to farm over longer time periods to get to your desired rank eventually.

For instance if you're rank 0 then you need 8k (cell F51) honor to jump to rank 3 in 1 week or 170k (cell F123) honor to rank 4 in the same week.

One of the easier to use results is the most efficient (lazy yet effective) way to rank up:

Rank 5 to rank 6: ~7k honor/week
Rank 6 to rank 7: ~10k honor/week
Rank 7 to rank 8: ~25k honor/week
Rank 8 to rank 9: ~50k honor/week
Rank 9 to rank 10: ~120k honor/week
Rank 10 to rank 11: ~210k honor/week
Rank 11 to rank 12: ~340k honor/week
Rank 12 to rank 13: ~400k honor/week
Rank 13 to rank 14: 500k-1M honor/week

Please note that it's the most efficient way per honor gained, time is not taken into account. With this schedule it takes 5 months from rank 5 to rank 12 but you will have to farm the least honor possible over the whole time period

If you want to do it faster then I think you should be looking doing constant honor which is optimal for the previous rank.

E.g. I want to hit rank 10 from rank 5.
With the honor-optimal strategy it takes 530k honor and 4 months.
With the time/honor-optimal strategy you should be grinding as rank 9, ~120k honor/week
It would take only 2 months but ~960k honor.

Pretty much any honor-rank question can be answered easily by inserting your RP into the calculator.

Here's the link to the resulting google spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uM14nC1GZb4DYccrP506K1XOC2-cQIQ5wEcRYWKUhLQ/edit#gid=0

How to use it:

1) copy this into your space
2) you need to know your RP.
Run this in game:
/script P=(math.floor(GetPVPRankProgress(target)*10000))/100 W=UnitPVPRank("player") N=(W-6)*5000+5000*P/100 Q=(W-5)*5000-N*0.8 SendChatMessage("Rank Progress: "..P.."% ".."Current RP: "..N.." RP to next rank "..Q.."","emote")
3) Enter your RP into the blue cell (A2).
Now you can see how many weeks it will take you to each rank per honor gained in lines 9 to 21
4) This is based on data from the week of Feb15-Feb 22 elysium PVP horde
If you want to make the forecast more accurate (or for a different server / faction) you can modify the spreadsheet with your data
You need to fill all red cells. Cells B2-D2 should be filled with your personal data
Cells A/B 9-21 should be filled by scanning people around you (inspect / honor tab). These ideally should be distributed across different honor gained/weekly standing buckets.

5) Lines 27-28 calculate the most efficient Rank gain schedule per honor point. It finds how much honor you should farm next week given your previous week RP to maximize incremental RP / honor ratio

Please let me know in case of any questions or if you spot any mistakes in the spreadsheet

Your calculations aren't correct. Last week I farmed 8500 honor at level 39 (then dinged to 42) and went from 6% into R3 to 89% into R3.

I have to start grinding honor tonight, I wonder how much I will need to hit R5?

Hi,

I think they are correct and support your data.

If I enter your RP (6% R3 is 5300 RP) into cell A2 and then look at lines 11 and 12 (6315 honor is line 11, 17203 honor is line 12, 8500 is in between, closer to line 11), cells S11 and S12, you would end up between  9020 and 10440RP, closer to 9020RP

89% R3 is 9450 RP

If you keep farming at this rate you will end up at rank 6 in ~6 weeks (cells M11 and M12) and will hardly gain any rank afterwards. It is also one of the most efficient ways to farm to rank 6 honor-wise.

Which part exactly do you think your data contradicts?

Perhaps I misread then -

I was reading "Rank 5 to rank 6: ~7k honor/week" meaning you needed 7k honor to get the next rank that week.

For people who care enough about PVP (and thus a calculator) we would really be interested in how much honor it takes to get to the next rank each week.

For example. How can I get to R5 on Wednesday? How much should I grind?

No, these estimates are not to hit in 1 week but rather to hit in the most efficient way - farm the least honor possible over multiple weeks.

If you want to know how much you need to hit R5 it's simple. Enter your current RP: 9450. Now look at column N - Rank 5. To hit it in 1 week you need at least 50k honor (cell N15, line 15 is 55k honor) farmed that week from your current RP

so a guide on how to rank up as slow as possible?

it is what it is - the most efficient way, gets you maximum RP with minimum honor invested.

It is obviously a tradeoff of how fast you wanna get rank vs how ineffective honor-wise you're ready to go but it's hard to summarize in a single table - you should use the calculator to find the rate which works for you. It shows you all possible options and allows to craft a schedule to your liking

But you have to make sure you're farming at least the amounts specified in the table

What amount of honor is needed from 40% into rank5 to rank7?

Even approximate number will suffice. I have 140k now, but im worried it wont be enough ;( Taking a week off screwed me pretty hard.

It all depends on what standing you get and how you are relevant to the highest in your standing bracket.
If you farm 1 million honor but rest of the server farmed 1.1 million honor you won't get shit.

You won't hit it. You need ~320k honor to hit rank 7 this week. With 140k you will be 60% rank 6.

You were precicely right by the way. I even farmed up to 220k. Still got exactly 60% into rank 6.

So farming "extra" honor is absolutely meaningless if you dont hit the next bracket? 140k or 319k - zero difference?

I would expect that with 140k you would have gotten to 60% rank 6, and with 220k to 80% rank 6. (as long as you were 40% rank 5 on horde elysium PVP)

So there's a difference in the amounts of RP you gain and I don't have an immediate explanation for the inaccuracy. May be it's related to the estimated % of rank gained - do you by any chance have exact RP numbers for this week and previous week? I assumed you had 17k RP last week.

The macro says i have 24000 and need 6600 to progress to next rank.

Dont have the previous week, sorry. And im alliance, by the way. So because of some premade tryhards i probably need to farm twice the honor (if that is how that works, idk, never tried to rank up in vanilla).

This is currently for horde only so alliance forecasts are very inaccurate. In order to make it work for alliance someone needs to fill all the red cells with alliance data

Last week was very non-typical honor-wise. I assume due to constant server crashes lots of less active people didn't achieve 15HK/week and were not included in honor calculations. The week before last there were 8258 PVPers, last week only 6800

Due to that (and likely less alliance premades) average honor requirements skyrocketed. E.g. from my current rank to rank 7 in 1 week the week before last required 60k honor, and last week 110k.

I've compiled a copy of the spreadsheet with the fresh data.

Feb 22 - March 1 data:
