SUPREMELY Disappointed and Frustrated

I love Elysium, but I got majorly screwed yesterday even though I executed the game to perfection mechanically.

I was fortunate enough to find Broken Tooth in Badlands before anyone. I instantly abandoned my pet and started taming. In the middle of my cast another hunter ran up and started taming the cat half way through my cast. The mob attacked me the entire time, and when my channel was finished and his was ~1/2 way through, BT disappeared like all animals do briefly on successful tame. Then it re-appeared as the OTHER players' pet. He was NEVER hit by BT and couldn't have even finished casting Tame.

 

Now I have no BT, my long-time owl pet is gone and I can't get a new one for 12 levels and I'm very disappointed. 

 

I'm guessing no one can help me and it's too f***ing bad?

Taming is not a 100% succesful guarentee.

I'm curious though - why can't you have another pet for 12 levels?
