2FA Mistake

Hi. I recently did a factory reset on my phone and as I have lost the QR-code email I cannot get the authenticator code back. I know there is not a recovery system available now, but I'm putting this out here just to let you know this is happening and hope for you to put together a system where the people who make this mistake can recover their accounts. I'm guessing that amount will be growing because of unclear instructions and phones not lasting forever. I have a pve bis geared druid with rank11 and so much played time that I hate to let it go, especially for preparing to the upcoming AQ release since old Nostalrius, timing of this is terrible.

The system would not get any less safe with an email recovery, because if an email gets hacked there's the qr code email anyway. I have my account email secured AND my phone number has not changed. There is no reason to doubt my identity, and I'm willing to let a developer know my phone number and call me or whatever it takes to prove that.

You could also check my identity from players of Kaamos, I have been the druid class leader in Kaamos on various private servers since 2012 and every officer in the guild knows who I am. Guild master Jawohl has addressed Shenna on this issue privately, I hope his message gets read and the main point of implementing a 2FA recovery system for the exploding number of player mistakes in the future considered.

Just a tip for you and anyone using 2fa for this game or any other account, ALWAYS print out the e-mail with the authenticator reset, print out that QR code, save it all.

Also, do you use google backup on your phone? I moved over to a new phone a month ago and google backup just put back the authenticator back for me.

This is something I have been worried about.

 

If i lose my phone or get a new 1 or factory reset like the OP... as long as i have saved/copied/printed the original email and codes sent to me when i activated 2FA i will be able to log in or install the app on my new phone etc and it will be ok?

Yes, I got my other accounts back with the emails. Whatever happens to your phone you just need the qr code from the email to get the pin into new authenticator

Yes, i can guarantee the trustworthynes of this person Frnk being my right hand man (no homo!). In-Game aswell if so required in case my forum account does not get the credibility.

Alot of people are very familiar with making new accounts to everywhere. You usually are send a confirmation Email from wich you confirm whatever you just registered, this is very common. It is also common for people to "get rid of" these confirmation emails after they have received and registered. Nowhere before or after the process of activating 2FA system was there information regarding that the ONLY way possible for recovery in event of loosing your phone or whatever system in place would  be impossible without that confirmation Email.

Now our intention here is not to mock or make accusations. It is the customers responsibility to look what he is "buying" but this is merely a point everyone should take in consideration. There can currently be hundreds of players who have accidentatly or unknowingly deleted their original 2FA QR Email and there is a possibility these cases will just pop up more and more out in the open when more factory resets or phone missings occure. It will be hundreds of characters with tons of played being simply locked in the darkness unreachable, not only from the hackers but the rightfull owners aswell.

So we would hope, even though we understand that the dev team and administrators is working hard on the developing of the server and AQ and all that being busy, but still this problem is a ticking timebomb wich will require attention sooner or later and we would hope to make this topic reach the ears of those who can have impact to solve this problem.

Nope, the Devs should work towards bug fixing and new content, rather than working to save your sorry ass because you are retarded.
