Need clarification on a Griefing Rule

Recommended Posts

D. Griefing

  • Intentionally killing or disabling important quest NPCs for an extended period of time;

This is the rule in question, let me explain the situation. Player in our guild was farming for Firewaters in Winterspring and primarily killing High Chief Winterfall as he has the highest drop chance for the consumable he was farming for. He was killing other mobs around as well but primarily as i said focused on killing the High Chief on re-spawn and did so for awhile uncontested. Then a level 60 and a lower lvl 50 arrived right as the member in my guild tagged the re-spawning High Chief and they tried to kill him while he was attacking the High Chief, he managed to kill the High Chief and the lower lvl 50 before being killed by the 60. He ran back to his body and waited for them to tag the now re-spawning High Chief and proceeded to kill them both then killed the High Chief. It was after this that he was promptly messaged by a GM Tigerhunt Letting him know that he was in fact Griefing and was asked if he (my guild member) would permit the players to kill the mob for the quest. I assume he asked if he would let them because he could still kill them but not the NPC. Our player agreed to allow them to kill the mob but mentioned that they engaged him in PvP first and he was retaliating for them killing him as this is a PvP server an all and GM Tigerhunt replied that it was still Griefing.

Im not disputing having a rule like this or the request to allow the players to kill the mob based off how its currently written because its up to interpretation of the GM if this is in fact an Important Quest NPC but I do feel it needs some Clarification on some things.

What Constitutes a "Important Quest" as the rewards from this quest are not of significant value and there is no follow up quest.

What is "An extended period of time" I understand the frustration of being held back from a quest they just want to hand in and move on from but things don't anyways work out that way especially when the NPC in question is found out in the world and drops a raid consumable that far out weighs the value of the quest and prior to the GM Message The NPC had only been killed twice (while the low level player was around) and the first time was when they first showed up and initiated PvP after the mob had already been tagged. Is this considered a extended period of time? The mob has a set re-spawn of 5min and 30s that's not a lot of time.

I personally feel the situation my guild member was in was not Griefing and the GM incorrectly considered this an Important Quest NPC due to the fact that this rule does not specify what is and what is not an Important Quest NPC.

Thanks for taking the time to read this Elysium GM Staff

p.s my guild member only was warned that he was Griefing this is in no way an appeal for the warning or a bash on GM Tigerhunt,I just feel this rule needs some clarification.

I agree clarification is needed.  However, I think it should be up to the faction and creating a group to counteract the said killing of NPC's.  I can't see how this is griefing as the quest itself doesn't have any good rewards or follow-ups.  Would be great to get clarification!

Well, simply put, an Important Quest NPC is a NPC involved in a quest, and is important for the quests completion.

An Important NPC can be a named target for a quest, or a quest giver of a major quest line.  The chieftan he was camping could be needed for part of a quest, since a player below 60 was there, and needed it.  My rule is, if someone needing the mob for a quest shows up, they can take it, regardless of faction.

As for extended period of time, they COULD be 3-4+ hours?  Perhaps longer..I've never really had issues with something like that, as as I said, if a player needs it for a quest I back off.
