petroix 4 Report post Posted May 27, 2017 Hello :) I played ret pal in TBC/Wotlk but vanilla is my first time and.. yeah it's not the same ret for sure. I'm still leveling so I have no idea how it is at 60 but ret pal seems very weak and much RNG depending. In PvP even Hunter (same lvl) almost killed me in MELE. That's ridiculous. I got only auto attack hit once per 3,5s and that's pretty much all. And it's a miss/dodge/parry very often. If Vengeance and SoC procs then it's super strong but most of the time I can only pray for that. So I'm really confused, I watched some videos and read guides but it looks like it's just the way it is. What I think about specs: Ret build with 2H seems useless. It's pretty much weak auto attack only. Holy build can't kill anything because it's not a dmg dealer. Prot build is reckoning I assume. And guys, I really don't get it. Do you really allow players to attack and try to kill you while you just /sit and wait for somemething to stack up? Wtf? And what if they won't crit you? But just rape you and kill? And after each kill you have to wait again to kill someone else. I don't get it. It's simillar to hitting with auto attack in Ret and praying for RNG. You are just allowing people to kill you in that time. And I have seen already some videos and it looks like it's very easy in vanilla to kill people in 1-2 shots for most of the class. I don't know, I just say what I think logically on first sight. That's why I'll really appreciate your help and all your tips. If you can explain some things to me, I'll be very grateful ;)
ZedMatey 1 Report post Posted May 28, 2017 It really depends on what you want to do. If you aim to Raid and do dungeons, I'm sure most groups would expect you to be holy so you can heal. Although it's not ideal for DPS, you can still carry a dps set and kill stuff with that spec. Prot pallies are somewhat viable, and in some cases superior to warriors for dungeon grinding. As far as I'm concerned Ret is just not viable in any case other than grinding mobs, leveling and being a buff bitch. For PvP any spec is fine, but you need to understand that if you wish to play Ret, you won't be a big dick killer - you will be more of a support role (providing buffs, off-heals,, life-saving bubbles, dispels and some dps). At the end of the day if your goal is to kill things perhaps paladin isn't for you. If you want to grind mobs in the world a Prot pally has great potential in AoE grinding. The final thing I will add is that gear is imperative to any class to dominate. So if you're getting destroyed by a melee hunter he most likely has better gear than you (keep in mind melee hunters have been proven to be somewhat viable as damage dealers).
petroix 4 Report post Posted May 29, 2017 Thanks for reply :) I want to go holy for PvE raids, the reason is obvious. But I want to get PvP gear and I don't know what spec is good for PvP because I'd not say any. For BG's probably Holy because it's the best healer in plates. But I'm more interested in 1vs1, world PvP etc. so I want to be actually able to kill other classes and not only mele Rogue/Warrior. Because having chance as paladin to win against 2 out of 8 classes looks bad. - Ret imo is weak. You have only auto attack hit once per almost 4sec and you must pray for RNG. You probably can't kill any ranged/magic class. I have problems even with mobs on Elysium and I tried instant 60 server and was no difference. Other classes with the same starting set were killing mobs 4x faster and with full HP. - Ret spellpower? People are saying you can play it with 2H or 1H+Shield but spellpower Paladin seems super weird to me. And you probably need a very specific gear for that. And I don't see consecration to be good for PvP lol. Huge mana cost and it works maybe vs warrior/rogue only. I don't want it in my spec for sure. - Reckoning, can someone explain how it works? I tested it on that instant 60 server but you can't normally attack while waiting for stacks? Cus if you hit you reset the stacks. And I wasn't even killing a normal 60lvl mob with full stacks so it seems weak. You have to /sit and let people crit you to make some burst dmg. As ret you can do the same but in 4x longer time but without losing HP due to crits. So Ret or Reckoning Bomb both seems to be weak. So I hope you can put some light on the matter how it really is.

JCarrill0 17 Report post Posted June 2, 2017 It's true, Ret Paladins is a 2 button class.
